Women in Esports is a grade 5-8 book giving a realistic look at the current esports situation and where women are (and aren't) making in impact. Three topics are covered: gamers, programmers/staff of game companies, and those who do casting/media coverage. The book looks to have been written before more women-friendly esports such as Overwatch League emerged but the subject is well researched and presented in a friendly manner. Author Marquardt notes that while the situation is bleak, there are trailblazing women creating inroads from all aspects of esports.

I especially applaud that this book does not talk down to its audience of grade school kids and presents an interesting starting point for children to explore this topic.

This book definitely oversimplified some of the barriers women in gaming face, but I think it did a decent job for what it is - an introductory, easy reader book for kids.
