I have always been a fan of Jodi Ellen Malpas. I loved This Man and the Smoke and Mirrors books, plus many more of hers.

After reading the first few chapters of The Gentlemen Sinner, I am wanting to finish it! I was so enthralled with just the first 4 chapters. I liked what I got to see of Izzy. I love how she is a nurse; I don't see many nurses as heroines in romance books. I know that she has had a hard life and has overcome it. I like that she is strong. I liked how the first chapter starts off thrilling. I was instantly hooked. I cannot what to finish this book!

I was provided an advance preview of this book for my honest opinion.

I am a huge fan of this author and was excited to get a 4 chapter preview of her latest book.
The chemistry between Theo and Izzy is felt right away and I can see that this will be a great story even if it was cut short by only a few chapters.
The secrets and past of each character will bring some twists to the story I am sure. Highly recommend this author and book!

Ooo what a great preview. Izzy such a subtle character, clearly with a past that we hopefully will find out about soon. And Theo... there is a sizzle and strangeness to his character that is keeping me very interested. As soon as I finished the preview, I jumped straight on and bought the full e-book. Thanks for the great introduction to this book. Happy reader.

This version of the ebook is just the extended preview of the story and includes chapter 1-4. It was such a fantastic and intriguing start to the book; immediately hooking you in and leaves you wanting more. Below is my review for the full book which I decided to reread after this incredible extended preview!

I love Malpas’ writing style and really enjoyed the overall story of The Gentleman Sinner. It gave enough of a dark romance to keep me intrigued without being over the top; though I should mention that as much as I love an alpha male, I paused at one or two scenes (eg. following her overseas on her girls holidays).

The secrets and mysterious backgrounds alluded to throughout the story weren’t shocking in the least when finally revealed but I actually found a real comfort in that! I think if they had been a huge, unbelievable shock then it would have been exactly that, unbelievable, and distracted too much from the storyline. The ending was incredibly sweet and a perfect fit for Izzy and Theo, leaving me looking forward to reading more from this author.

I received a complimentary copy for the first four chapters of this book from NetGalley to give a voluntary honest review. This review contains only my own thoughts and opinions of this book.

I have very little experience with BDSM and bondage and that is for a good reason. The whole concept is built on degrading and humiliating the woman and I just don’t see the appeal in that. While Gentleman Sinner didn’t change my stand on it, it still managed to somehow get me to see past that in this book. I don’t know if it was because of the darker reason behind the whole bondage situation or if it was how delicately and tamely it was handled. Probably both mixed in with me keeping an open mind when I decided to give this book a go. One thing is for sure though, I immensely enjoyed this story.

It started of very interestingly with the main girl, Izzy, finding a wounded woman in a dark alleyway and being saved from a scary guy by a man possibly even scarier, Theo, with a phobia of being touched. Yet Izzy felt nothing but safe with him. From there on Theo’s pursue of Izzy, the only person he wanted to and could be touched by, started. Their interactions were nothing but addictive and Izzy’s refusal of his advances and demands made it so much more compelling. Their relationship was beautifully built with such different yet similar personas. Izzy coming from a poor background and being a very compassionate and open minded woman. And tough scary Theo, the solar opposite, born with money and violence. Yet they both found common ground with heavy pasts and dark secrets neither wanted to reveal, but dying to know the other’s. This built disagreements and arguments throughout the book that had me constantly on my toes, wanting to know what dark past hid behind their insecurities and how they were going to act on it. Even with the less favorable (for me) bondage sex, their relationship and development was explosive and beautiful and built up such amazing drama.

This was exactly what I desire in a romance, minus one thing. As much as I liked Theo’s attraction to Izzy and his demanding and out there personality, he often toed the line of a creep. Following a woman he barely knew across the world without her knowledge and often saying strongly obsessive things like how much he enjoys watching her sleep ... well, if someone ever acted this way towards me, I would not have been flattered the way Izzy was. I would have been creeped out and fearing for my safety. In short his attraction to her was a bit too close to obsession and could have been toned down a bit. At the same time though, since Izzy reacted well to it and it helped them develop a relationship, it did not ruin that much for me. The way Theo’s characterization was formed also helped compensated for it.

Other than that I had no major issues with Gentleman sinner. Quite the opposite actually. I am very happy with the outcome, especially since I excepted the worst with the whole BDSM. I am glad I decided to give it a chance and the few minor issues I did have was easy to forget with the amazing writing, drama and romance.

A taste that has you wanting more of this story. Another set of characters that at the moment seem to pull you in.

There is just something about a broody, mysterious billionaire that won’t back down.

Izzy, our heroine, has some skeletons in her closet. She is a survivor of domestic violence, so when she stumbles across a beaten woman, she couldn’t just turn away. Unfortunately, the attacker hadn’t left the scene yet and grabs Izzy. She starts having flashbacks to her past when she is saved by a handsome stranger. She pleads for him to take the beaten woman to a hospital, but Theo has a better idea. He takes Izzy home with him, as she’s a nurse, to treat the woman.

I know the billionaire trope is so overdone, but I can’t help to love a good rich bad boy. I cannot wait to read this. I’m pretty sure I’ll be reaching for it soon!

3-3.5 Stars

This preview was just ok for me. The writing was so so and the insta lust/love is a little over the top. It may get better later in the story and feel a little less rushed, but the first couple chapters just felt a little too much for me. Not ire I’ll continue reading or not.
