This is something that I read back in 2019 (I think), but I never got myself to finish. I'm going through a bit of a purge/end of the year cleaning, so that's why I've decided to "review" this and let go of the book.

From what I remember, this book is well structured, and is easy to read. However, it wasn't really my thing. I think it was a combination of me not really liking the voice of the author/his personal stories, and too much information all at once.

I've read a lot of self-help books, and this one isn't ground-breaking, but presents the subject of self-improvement in an easy to understand and easy to read way.

Todd sets out 12 battles we have - some may not be applicable, but you can pick and choose which battles you want or need to do. The battle is with yourself, not other people. At the end of each chapter are some exercises to do to help you take action.

It's not a long book, and it's easy to work through. The hardest thing is to take action.

I enjoyed how this book was set out, and I think it's a book I will come back to again.

Get out of your head! 'You vs. You, is a great self help book to really challenge you to stop fighting against yourself. This Is a no non sense straight to the point approach in getting over yourself and learning to apply the best you to win! I thoroughly enjoyed this self help and the authors approach.

A great book - well written, well laid out and broken down so it's super easy to follow and make changes step by step, absolutely loved it!

The idea of a self-improvement book based on battles many of us fight on a daily basis seemed to have a lot of potential to me, so I was initially excited to read Todd Cahill's first book, You vs You. However, the further in I found myself, the more it felt like You vs You was more of a self-promotion brochure rather than a fully fleshed-out book, centered blandly on the American Dream and Hollywood’s definition of success.

The advice presented to readers often feels generic, with a few thought-provoking points peppered throughout the book, and ultimately left me disappointed.

Examples from famous people's lives sometimes fail to tie in to the point being explored, and though the story-telling, conversational tone used may appeal to some readers, there were times it felt like these stories were being told for the purpose of being told, rather than to drive a point home.

As another reviewer mentioned, there is a strong disconnect between the lessons Cahill writes about and his own online persona. Condemning the illusion of a perfect life many perpetuate on social media and telling people "stop spending time trying to impress others" feels entirely disingenuous when your own instagram reel is full of sports cars, expensive holidays and highly polished portraits.

Unfortunately this book failed to strike a chord with me.

You are the most important person in your life. You are often your own worse enemy ad also your biggest supporter. This was a great book to read. One that gives you a look inside you.

I received this book from NetGalley (thank you!).

I was particularly interested in reading this book as I am currently working on my dissertation about mindset. I really enjoyed Cahill's voice and engaging tone throughout the text. The author touched upon several aspects of determination and grit that my research has found as well, so I found myself nodding to the work several times. Overall, this is an enjoyable book to help people get out of their own way.

I like the tone and format of this book. It's not just inspirational but it is also practical as it offers insights into daily personal struggles and how we can overcome them.
I love the quotes shared at the beginning of every chapter too.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC. One thing readers are guaranteed with this book is that they will relate to every chapter and situation because the author's tone is as conversational and practical as can be.

You Vs You is a book about the "battles" you face. Broken into the 12 most common battles that often times hold people back for achieving their goals. Each chapter begins with a quote and ends with an exercise to help you win the battle against yourself. If you like self help books and are looking for a little push to execute, this book may be of help to you.

I was given an advance digital copy of this book by NetGalley for my honest review.

This book started scoring points with me right from the start. In the Forward, Larry Cohn says, "Simply put, you are involved in everything you do. And thus, you are responsible for the decisions you have made." I am a firm believer in the fact that things do not happen to me; they happen because of me. I love the idea of taking an active role in making the changes I want to see in my life. The rest of the book forces you to question aspects of your life and guides you in getting where you want to be.

I really agree with the other review about how the author tells on himself. I enjoy reading about other people's failures, not because I am a mean sadist, but because it reinforces the fact that everyone has failures. It reminds me to not get too hung up on my own failures.

What I loved most about this book was the reflection questions at the end of each chapter. The key thing about making self-help books work for you is to do something active beyond just reading the text. The questions force readers to try to apply the book to their own life.

You vs You will be different for everyone who reads this book. This isn't the first book about how to become a better person but the author Toss Cahill breaks down what hold individuals back from finding their success. The author has it broken down into categories helping readers discover a way to find a better you. The author uses success stories, quotes, and examples that will gives readers insight.

This is your basic self help book but the author is able to add hiss own aspect that will create a unique and interesting looking at creating a better you.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Greenleaf Book Group Press for an advance copy of Todd Cahill You vs You.

I like how Cahill breaks down the categories that often hold people back. He provides easy to relate to scenarios and offers specific ideas to make changes. His writing style flows and drew me through the first three battles in one sitting.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I will add though, when I looked up more about the author, I felt a disconnect. He "looks" to be living a life completely contrary to mine and it felt weird.

You vs You by all mean is not the first self-help book on how to own ourselves, but it is definitely a gem among many.

To the point and engaging, You vs You offers an inner look into 12 aspects in our life started from our persona to our future. Completed with exercise, You vs You is a perfect companion for anyone who would like to do a 'return, redefine, and repeat' in life. Because after all, what is life if not a series of action we take habitually?

4/5

I'm not very keen on self-help books, but I like how this book was executed. Every topic started out with a quote. The given advice was backed up by a variety of studies and examples. In between, the author redefined the goal of the chapter. At the end of each topic, there were tasks on how to take action in order to win the battle against yourself. All in all it was wrapped up nicely though most of the things mentioned were already known to me.

I was bored by this one, and didn't feel like it offered anything special over other self help books.

This book was nicely written, and easy to read. Todd highlight 12 areas where you can improve your life, and perception. Some of the quotes, and stories used to demonstrate his ideas are really good, and do make you think. I also liked the little exercises, at the end of the chapters.
Overall this book is a good read, I have given three stars as I don’t think there is anything mind blowing in here, but it’s nicely done, and worth a read.

The first thing that stands out about this book is how real the author is....he tells on himself, both good and bad, and does so in a conversational tone. He pulls in several pop-culture references and anecdotes that bring his points to life, making the book very easy relatable for the reader. Some of the twelve points may be spot-on for you, while you might simply gloss over others. Being divided into definitive chapters, which don't have to be read in order, makes this easy to pick up and get through in small doses.

I think I've read too many self-help books because they all sound the same to me. This one was fine. Not great. The author put his spin on it, including making a claim and then including lots of examples and a few exercises. Network marketing was mentioned many times, but the content could work for anyone if they connect with it. I did not, but I'm sure it will be helpful to some. I really appreciate the opportunity to read the advanced copy.
