I had a hard time finishing this book. It was poorly written and uninteresting. I just could not get into the story and I do not recommend it. I was given a free copy of this e-book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. |
Oh…my…god…I LOVED this book! This was easily one of my top 5 reads this year so far! I could not put it down, and I finished it in one sitting! It was adventurous, intriguing, and full of action and humor. It was an intense thrill ride that had me shocked at every twist and turn! It easily differentiated itself from other YA books by boasting the importance of family, respect for your elders, and education! |

The story pulled me in and wouldn’t let go. Alyssa is like Lara Croft. She is reckless and smart and determined and is willing to do anything to save her father. I liked Alyssa from the start and am curious what will happen to her in the next book. Heir of Ra is full of excitement, action and even has some romance which lightened the story some. I can very well imagine Heir of Ra as a series on TV. Thank you to NetGallyey and the publisher for my copy. |
This book sounded like something I would absolutely LOVE, and the first few pages did seem promising. But sadly I just found that after the first chunk of chapters I couldn’t keep myself engaged with what was happening at all, and after a few tried of going back to finish the story, I have decided to leave it where it is. I got to 18% before putting it down. |
This novel is a good one that I’ve read this year! The characters are so dynamic yet relatable. I loved the flow of the story. It held my attention the whole time. |
This book is an interesting take on Egyptian mythology. I think I would have liked it more if maybe there were indications of the shift in character point-of-views because one moment or chapter your reading as the main character and then as some other character in the book. It would take me a moment to realize the shift, because the characters' tones and moods were so different. Overall, I did enjoy reading the book. Heir of Ra catches your attention from the very beginning and you want to keep reading it to know what's going to happen next. I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre of books. |
An excavation of the fabled Hall of Records beneath the Sphinx unleashes an ancient disease that leaves her father fighting for his life. As Alyssa races to find a cure, she stumbles onto an impossible artifact that could change history--or destroy our future. With unexpected help from Oxford student Paul Matthews, Alyssa evades ruthless adversaries set on harnessing the power of the artifact. As a global epidemic looms, they must unravel deep secrets hidden within it and unveil the link between a mythical civilization and the birth of Egyptian mythology, before time runs out. Compulsively readable, M. Sasinowski's award-winning debut thriller, Heir of Ra, is filled with action, technology, humor, and a generous dose of "what if" that just might have you question your history books. I had a great time reading this book and now I am looking forward to reading more books by the same author. Many many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me access to this eARC. |

Reading this book was a wild ride from start to finish, and whilst it definitely wasn't what I expected I'm all the more glad for it. The book was fast paced and exciting and the action started from page one and really didn't let off until the conclusion of the book. There was so much to this book and I really loved the duel timeline of "now" vs. "Ancient Egypt". And having the flashbacks occur from the perspective of an Egyptian "God"? Brilliant. Alyssa (the MC) was one bad ass 16-year-old., kicking ass and taking names from the get-go and I really loved seeing how things came together between her and the other characters. Her relationship with her father was - in a word - complicated but there was clearly a lot of love, affection and respect between the two and I thought their dynamic was brilliant. Even with the limited appearance of her father in this book their relationship was so clear. I also really loved the slight hint at romance between Alyssa and Paul. It really wasn't any more than a "teaser" (likely to be elaborated on in a sequel book), but that was all I needed. The fact that the romance wasn't a focal point in this was very much appreciated! Because really - with everything else that was going on it wouldn't have made any sense for there to be some whirlwind romance thrown in there and if there had been one it would have felt forced to me. This book was a great blend of fantasy, science fiction and mythology and if you're a fan of series such as Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy this too! Exciting from the get-go and has so much to offer. Highly recommend :) |
Oh my god I really love this book! I throughly enjoyed this fast paced page turner, and I highly recommend reading this one, it doesn’t disappoint!!! |
I liked the concept of heir of ra. And who doesn’t like Egyptology and conspiracies and action? But honestly I found it a little blah? There was too much going on - I think the author was trying to make it interesting and complex but just ended with complicated and hard to keep straight. I could follow it, but wasn’t clear on motivations or who was on what side any more. Alyssa is kick ass, but part of me wonders if she’d really get away with some of what she did. And the bad guys never have a proper motive - though that may be explored in the follow up I guess. I did enjoy it, but only just - there were several points at which I nearly stopped because it was a little over ridiculous. |
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I love Egyptian Mythology and this checked a lot of the boxes for me. I think I would feel like Alyssa if I was put into some of the same situations that she is. But the foundation of this book was done so well that it makes me want to reach for the next one. I can't want to see what happens next. |
I really enjoyed reading this book. I always loved books and movies with a little bit of archeology in them, and this one was perfect, egyptian mythology is my favourite. The book was well written, it read almost itself and I fell in love with the characters. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. |
As a fan of egyptian mythology this book made an enjoyable read. It took a little bit to get into the book, but then is was really good. The story was well crafted and the characters relatable as well as likeable. As someone who has a background in biology I always enjoy parts with diseases and illnesses, so an extra point for that If you enjoy a fast paced story with mythology this is definitely a book for you and you should check it out! |
Heir of Ra is a fun read. It is easy to read, the plot is fast paced. Characters that are interesting, and great mix of locations. I could easily picture this book on the big or little screen. The mixture of history and mythology takes Heir of Ra in a direction that surprised me and kept each page interesting. The feeling I am left after reading Heir of Ra is that there is a much bigger picture. I am keen to see what happens next for Alyssa. Alyssa is the lead character in Heir of Ra, she would definitely give Indiana Jones a run for his money. In knowledge and trouble hey get into. Heir of Ra has;ActionMysteryArcheology DramaMythology If you like any of these elements in a book that I would pick it up. My rating for Heir of Ra is 4 out of 5. |
Wasn't able to download this particular copy but I did buy it. This took me a little while to get into, but once the action started I really enjoyed it! I love Egyptian mythology and a strong female lead and this debut did not disappoint on either account! Looking forward to reading more from this author! |
I received this from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. The world building was done very well. I loved the characters. I do feel it is very character driven so I like that. I really went into this not remembering the synopsis. I could not remember why I requested it but I am so glad I did not reread the synopsis. I love going into the book not knowing what it is about. To me, it helps me to get to the know the plot and characters better. I don't judge before going in. I do highly recommend this book. |
Ancient artifacts of great power, nasty villains desperate to lay hold of them for nefarious ends? Likable, outgoing characters trying to buck the odds and win the day despite long odds? Old civilizations shrouded in mystery that could hold the keys to our future? What's not to like? This young adult novel checks all the boxes for me as a fun adventure with an interesting backstory that should be good for more novels in the future. Took a little while to get going for me, and sure, the main characters get out of some spots they shouldn't have, but this is a young-adult novel after all. Recommended. |
If you're a fan of Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider I highly recommend! Mystery, action, romance.. everything a good book should definitely contain. I've always loved mythology, especially Egyptian, and I have to say that i really enjoyed reading the Heir Of Ra. It was fast paced, great main character, also... the flashbacks were really cool! Thank you so much for a copy, again, I highly recommend :) |

This story follows Alyssa, who is in Peru but needs to go to Cairo quickly to be in time for the famous Hall of Records, something her father Kade have been trying to dig for years. However bad things happen, an ancient disease is unleashed and Kade’s life is at risk. Alyssa and Paul, an Oxford student and intern at WHO (World Health Organization), see themselves in an adventure to try to save her father and possibly the humankind. About this book there were some things I liked and others not so much. The good parts were the thrill the reader gets once action starts, the different POVs (but sometimes seems to much – the action is jumping all the place) and the fact some characters bring suspicions of not being trusted but can we be sure? Also, there were flashbacks of an ancient life that helps to understand the importance of this Hall of Records, I think I understood but at same time feels like it didn’t reveal much. On the other side, I think the organization behind this could be more explained, maybe will be in the next book but still something is missing. The villain’s motives and mission were a little superficial, where’s the deeper reason? I like to know the deepest dark secret for doing something bad and detailed organize, some deeply complex trauma... It’s kind of sad for not having more scenes about Egyptian mythology, didn’t get to see much in the flashbacks. Alyssa is a strong female lead and I admired her motivation to save Kade, clearly even with a few problems between them she still loves him very much. I did like Paul but not the way he’s in the story, I mean, his decision to give up of everything and risk his life for a girl he just meet without reflect is kind of hard to believe. And then we have Clay who help them but was after that is merely refer and just like him there’s Jacob, another forgotten character, that seemed a potential lover for Alyssa, at least in the beginning. Despite being an okay book for me I would like to read the next one. |
