In the wake of my divorce last year, I comforted myself by climbing in bed and bingeing on old episodes of Sex and the City. Even though I was a good fifteen years older than Carrie and her crew – and the explosion in email, social media, and texting made many of the episodes seem woefully out of date – I was cheered up by their friendship and humor as they dated a series of losers. Staying at home watching TV seemed like the logical choice when there was no one out there who’d show me a better time.

Although immensely readable, I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would. After being a fan of the hugely famous sitc I was looking forward to catching up with my favourite sassy characters. This is not what this book turned out to be since it was the musings of the author about her life. It was however an easy and entertaining read.

Same wit. Same dry humor. I laughed out loud with this book. Candace or should I say CARRIE you inspire women to get out there and “live their best lives”. Single and in my 30s I needed this boost

I was fortunate to receive a free ARC of this book from Netgalley. The above thoughts, insights, or recommendations are my own meek musings.

In all honesty, this was a DNF for me.

I found within the first 5% of the book Bushnell mentioned her divorce numerous time and how deep down she would be well off because she had money. She also mentioned how she could not get a mortgage because she was a single woman. Confused seeing if she is so rich why that would be a problem-- oh but it wasn't. She paid off her mortgage in cash.

I honestly felt the writing lacked caring for the work being done. It was bland, rushed, and choppy. As a SATC fan, i think that drew me in. However, it was a let down and I had to put this one down.

Having read every other Bushnell book I had high hopes for this one. However I found it kind of whiny. It lacked the charm and glamour of her previous novels. I don't know if I've grown older, or just too cynical to enjoy her books, but it fell flat for me.

What It’s About: This is a memoir (it is NOT part of the Sex and the City universe) of Candace Bushnell's journey as a divorced middle aged woman filled in with stories from her friends.

What I Loved: Candace writes this book with the same type of tone as Carrie Bradshaw had on the show (I didn't read the books, but watched the show). You kind of feel like Carrie is talking and narrating her friends lives. It reads much like the style that the Sex and the City show was produced.

What I didn’t like so much: I didn't like this one. There are some funny stories in here and hijinks but overall I wasn't crazy about it. It took me a couple months to push through this one and I didn't connect with the characters (but I'm not middle aged or from the Wealthy NY group of women). I didn't particularly love the way it ended either.

Who Should Read It: People who like the Carrie Bradshaw storytelling voice. People who are middle aged and single. People who are middle aged and familiar with the NYC/Hamptons scene.

General Summary: A memoir exploring life as newly divorced middle aged woman.

I was really excited about this book because I love Sex and the City. The books, the show, the films. Well, the first film anyway. I was thrilled to get a copy of this one, but after a few chapters, it was clear that this book wasn't going to live up to the standard previously set by Bushnell. It was bland. There was nothing special that made me want to connect with the characters, and the story lacked the witty sass that Bushnell is known. It certainly was no Carrie Bradshaw. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

If you are looking for a quick and light read then this book is for you. It was a little fast paced and the characters and story line could have been deeper.

I really enjoyed this book. It showed how Candace Bushnell's writing has changed over the years. From Sex in the City to Lipstick Jungle and now to this: Is There Still Sex in the City?
I think this was a perfect book for the generation who lived off of Sex and the City and is now going into their next stage of life. It was a bit hard for me to get through, as most essay-like books are, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I absolutely loved the sex in the city series, both book and tv series. I was so excited to receive a copy of this book.

However, I was extremely disappointed with this book.

I sensed that the author was bored writing this book and I did not find it entertaining.

I actually did not finish this book as I found it boring and I could not persevere.

I’ve watched sex and the city COUNTLESS times. The show and the movie. I fell I love with the characters and world she helped create so OF COURSE I jumped for joy when I saw that luckily, I was approved to review Candace Bushnells new novel “Is There Still Sex In The City?”

The novel was, in a nutshell, an autobiography about dating as a middle aged woman in a modern world.

We follow her as she downloads and tries out tinder (YIKES!), takes up biking, and reconnects with old lost loves.

While her writing starts off more in a satirical comedy sense, it does address deeper subjects, from her struggles and her friends.....How to start over, after a heartbreaking divorce, the disconnect from this crazy modern way of dating, and the depression and suicide of her dear friend.

It was nice to see the “human” side of a woman who brought about the greatest series of all time. I appreciated her writing, it was like talking to an old girlfriend about her life.

Candace Bushnell of Sex and The City fame brings us a new entry that examines the struggles and accomplishments of middle age. She uses her own life and experiences to bring the novel to life and the result is a humorous , witty and at times sad tale of what it’s like to be a middle aged woman trying to navigate life. Candace Bushnell shines as a wonderful storyteller per her usual. The story can sag in pace here and there, but overall, it should appeal to fans of her prior work.

I struggled to get into the plot of this story and skipped pages to get to the ending. Not at all what I expected from this author and not a book I’ll likely recommend to patrons.

A quick laugh out loud read! Is There Still Sex in the City is a must read for fans of Sex in the City!

Is There Still Sex in the City? was such a fun read. As a Sex in the City superfan, I enjoyed reading this newest book by Candace Bushnell. This well-written book reads like a collection of short stories/journal entries and focuses on how six friends discover all the things that life has to offer women who are midlife dating, the concept of “cubbing”, vaginal restoration and so much more. It was fun and light and mirthful. A few times I actually laughed out loud.

Everyone who’s known me in the early 2000s knows I loved Sex and the City. More for the TV series than the book, but the source material and its author have gotten love from me as well.

This book is trying to recapture the magic of the original. It succeeds in some ways, not so much in others. The parts I liked are the female friendship and the hints of vulnerability in some of the personal anecdotes Ms. Bushnell tells. Some of the others feel invasive and inauthentic. It's also not as diverse as the original book with most of the characters cishet and no PoC or LGBTQ included.

In the end, I gave this book 4 stars because at my late 40s, I’m approaching the MAM age she discussed with some length and I liked how she ended the book in a hopeful tone -- that at 60, there IS still Sex in the City.

I'm not certain if I enjoyed this book as much as I would have seeing it playout in the SITC tv format, which is actually how it read. When the next edition of Sex in The City for the "maturer" women comes out I'm all over it! Here is the outline ready to film.

Were you a Sex in the City fan? I loved the book; I loved the show! I not only have seen them all many times, I loved the movies and even have the books based on the show and fashion. So, I’m kind of like a super fan! I was really excited to read Is There Still Sex in the City by Candace Bushnell since her original one came out 20 years ago!

I don’t know if it’s because we are at different stages of our lives, but this whole book to me seemed like one big complaint. I hate to give bad reviews but man it’s like she doesn’t like anything, and the end was super sad. She talked about her and her friends being closer to 60 and dating much younger men. But then all they do is complain about these guys, well yeah, they are like 20 somethings! These are your friends’ kids!

Then she talks a lot about how she doesn’t have money to do anything. I know she lives in NYC and yes, it’s expensive but really? You have multiple books, a TV show and movies. I mean save some money or move. I think there were at least three times she talked about not having the money to buy stuff, but then talks about spending over a thousand dollars on face cream…

Maybe I was just too excited for this one but just didn’t do it for me. I was so bummed by it that I watched the Sex in the City movie last night just to cheer me up! Maybe you will enjoy it

I read this book because of Candace Bushnell (and who else!) I absolutely fell in love with the movies Sex And The City and Sex In The City 2 and so, obviously, when I saw Bushnell's latest on NetGalley, I had to read it. But unfortunately, the book on the whole and the writing, in particular, failed to seduce me the way the movies did. It lacked the whole charm and charisma the movie and its characters had.

Moreover, the story progressed so speedily that in just two-three kindle pages, the main character went from the back of a taxi with a dead dog to being broke and got divorced and bought a new place and sold the old one and bought to new poodles (not at all in that order, but that was a major information dump!) And the entire book was that way, as if the author was just telling about what's happening and not writing a book. This makes me wonder how her Sex In The City book might be. I always wanted to read it, but now not so much as I can see how the writing might be in that too and I really don't want to ruin the movies for myself as I absolutely love them!

I think you may enjoy this book only if you are hardcore a Bushnell fan (which, for the love of me, I cannot fathom why.)
