This was just a sample of the book but what I've read so far has me very intrigued! I'm very curious to see what has happened to the Four Queens and why. I like the that there are two parts of the story that will come together at some point. I look forward to reading and reviewing the whole book.

I received a sampler of the book from the publisher via Netgalley and after 46 pages, I’m definitely intrigued. I currently have the book on hold at the library. I need to know what happens to these characters and this world in general.

The sneak peek was amazing and I can't wait to read it! It sounds like the perfect fantasy dystopia.

What a marvelous sample. I really love the premise of this story. Astrid has a fresh voice that is much needed in the genre. I was hooked from this sample and immediately pre-ordered the book.

This sneak peek gave me what i wanted but the actual book did not interest me. I am going to try again someday, i dont know how to give a full review for a sneak peek. I love the color and one of the characters made me want to know them more.

You know how expectation rules experience? While I wish I could give 3.5 stars (I stared and stared at the star rating, deliberating between giving four stars here), the build up and anticipation from my friend group didn't equal the amount of pulp in the orange juice for me here. I'm notoriously picky when it comes to alternating POV chapters and I will say that I struggled with this in Four Dead Queens.

Did Four Dead Queens submerge me in an exciting setting and introduce me to Keralie and Varin, characters that will stick with me? Yes. However; I will have to see if Astrid Scholte will make my juice a bit more worth the squeeze in her next book, which I will read.

While I was interested in the concept of this book, I have since heard that it contains the "bury your gays" trope for its two main queer women -- both of them, not even just one, which would have been hurtful enough. Queer people are not just here to be killed off to advance the plot for straight characters, or for their grief to be used as a plot mechanic. Additionally, I'm not comfortable with the presentation of this society as being built on eugenics. People with genetic illnesses, neurodiverse people, and all non able-bodied people are not a problem that needs to solved by wiping them out of society, and this idea being presented unchallenged is horrible.

Love, love, love!

FOUR DEAD QUEENS is about dreams and the lengths we"ll go to achieve those dreams.

Imagine a world divided into purposes: technology, agriculture, art, etc. It's not so different from our world. The Midwest is for agriculture, New York is for culture etc. These similarities only enhanced my experience of the novel.

I connected with the characters, I found them interesting. The main character was fun and interesting to follow! I also really loved the role the queens play in the plot of the novel, it was so interesting and different from other books in the same genre.

This book encompassed a complete and awesome plot within its pages :)

But the BEST thing, for me, about this book, is that it is a standalone. Many times, I find myself wanting to read a strong, well-written fantasy, but unable to commit myself to a series. That's where this book shines in my opinion!

Let me preface this by saying that this review is only for the preview that was posted on NetGalley. I have the full book on my To-Read list and look forward to giving a full review.

First, the pictures and artwork were absolutely stunning. I love maps as I feel it adds another dimension or element to the story. I also loved that everything was explained. We get the map, a little bit about the setting and the laws of the lands. The premise of this story is great. I can already see some character development and world building taking place. I look forward to providing an in depth review.

I received a sneak peak of this title through Net Galley; this book, "Four Dead Queens" began with a bang and drew me in as a reader and a lover of mystery right into the plot and characters. I grabbed the book as soon as possible and really enjoyed the reading experience. Astrid Scholte wrote a very appealing and original YA novel with likable characters (especially the four queens), an interesting plot, and great pacing; it was hard to put down. Knowing Scholte was inspired by Agatha Christie made me enjoy the ending that much more. Recommended to YA readers that are looking for a fast read, an mystery plot within a fantasy world, or an original story.

This is an interesting premise. The sneak peak I received left the story peaked my interest in the full length novel.

Scholte transcends conventional boundaries and stereotypes surroundings the themes in her novel, to create a thoughtful and creative novel. Triapsing the line of creativity, and realism, Scholte effectivley builds characters and story arcs to create a well rounded novel. While I only read the excerpt here, I am currently reading the novel in real life.

For only the first 60 pages, I have to say, this has gotten me all excited!
I think morally grey characters and ambiguous sort of actions have been getting more of the spotlight now a days as we realize more and more that the world is far from black and white.

Even in this sneak peak, I can already see the potential for character development. The alternating POV was well done up to this point and I'm very impressed. Can't wait to pick up the book!

I read this book and was completely blown away. I probably read this book in under 5 hours and was sucked into the realm of Quadara with just the first sentence. I loved the twists and turns! The alternating storytelling was also quite interesting as we saw how the queens were murdered as they happened as well as the other queens' thoughts. As I read the book, I thought 3 different things until I found out just who dun it. I was completely wrong (as I'm sure everyone else was). This book most likely covered just about every genre! There was quite a lot of forbidden romance, cut-throat action, a dark murder mystery, a total cross-kingdom adventure, and it even goes into finding yourself when you aren't quite sure anymore.

Total must read!

will be getting my hands on the full book asap! it left me speechless (in a very good way!) everything about this sneak peak caught my attention!

I was immediately drawn in by the promise of a murder mystery in a fantasy setting. I'm a sucker for murder mysteries in general, and adding this to a fantasy world seemed like a recipe for excellence.

It didn't really work for me, though. Part of the problem might be that this book - a standalone, it seems - tries to do too many things and stretches itself way too thin in the process. It contains six different perspectives in total; all third person except for Keralee's perspective. It also contains weak fantasy-esque politics, an investigation into a murder, vague sci-fi concepts like genetic alterations and comm chips, and a romance that is thrown in for no reason I can see.

I still haven't finished this book. But I am in the process of reading this currently, and so far I am enjoying it!
It took me a while to get into it, but some continuous reading helped and now I am hooked! Its a mix of fantasy and thriller (whodunit), combining 2 of my favourite genres.

Hopefully the end is also as satisfying as the rest of the book! :)

EDIT: Finally finished it and true to my prediction it was a pretty good read. I really liked the world building and nothing too over-the-top.
While, I did like that end, it wasn't exactly a very 'WOW' inspiring ending. I mean, I didn't see it coming and I expected all other characters to be the one responsible. But I was felt that the big reveal at the end maybe lacked the right punch.

In all, highly recommended. Give me fantasy and thriller combination any day! :)
