Good grief. The ‘This Man’ series was a bit of a guilty pleasure, for which I could ignore a lot of the irritating points of the author’s writing. In Gentleman Sinner, however, it’s like she takes all of the annoying bits and turns them up a notch.

Are murder and threats to kill sexy for most people? I think not. And probably shouldn’t be for a nurse. Nor is stalking.

And don’t get me started on these men she writes about who just happen to fall for random women they come across in bizarre situations.

The worst, however, is that like in ‘This Man’, apparently all the characters hum during sex. I can’t get past it. I don’t need the image of people humming a tune whilst they get down to it...and whilst I know that’s not what she means I simply can’t help the way my mind works!

GS lacked the comedy and heart that made This Man. Very disappointed.

Oh my holy Jesus! This was amazing! Like seriously amazing. Loved everything about it and literally felt every emotion possible. I read this in one sitting, in the bath wrinkled like a prune and topping up the hot water constantly. Wish I could read it all over again.

I am usually a bit stingy with my 5* reviews but have given this 5* because I liked all the characters - main and side and just got really engrossed in the book.

I love the This Man series and this book comes a close second. I loved Theo, I loved Izzy and I loved them together. There was insta connection but this is the book world so I am OK with this. Theo was most definitely alpha but an alpha with a heart - not quite up to Jesse standard but then again who could be?

Both characters had flaws and both characters were broken but together they worked. I would love a book about Callum and Jess - think there is something going on there!

Another added bonus to this book is that there is a really satisfying epilogue.

A great read and a standalone which is nice.

*SPOILER WARNING*

Phew, OK folks, this book is everything I like to see and loathe to see in a contemporary new adult book all wrapped into one. The overall plot is one that is common to see in the genre, so I won't bore you with any of the details other than to say that even though it was trope-y and an undoubted rehash of the same story seen over and over again, it was a good version. I'm going to start off with the good points, and then continue with the bad ones so I don't descend into rant territory.

Let's start off with Theo. Theo Kane is a big beast of a man who has all the notoriety and power that goes with his job (owning a semi-legal strip/fight club) and size, and has the usual sad backstory that is present with the lead men in this story: in his case a troubled childhood, an abusive father, a abhorrence to being touched. He is everything he says he is, and even though his stalking and violence is something I will address negatively later, I don't hate the way he treats his staff and friends. He clearly cares deeply for those who care for him, and once Izzy is one the scene that instantly extends to her.

I also think that for one of these books, Izzy is a strong gal. She has been through some shit, being forced into almost sex slavery, being made to strip and being raped is not what anyone, let alone a 17yr old should be facing, so the fact that she has made her own life, forged strong unbreakable friendships around her, and has trained in caring profession (nursing) to support herself, feel safe, and give back is really admirable. I like that she lets her guard down because he gives her safety and security, and that she is wary to begin with and that what he gives her isn't just a good sex life, but something that she has been missing.I also like that she doesn't sacrifice her friendship with Jess, who clearly has helped her from her past to present immensely, and that Jess comes with Izzy as a packet deal and no-one doesn't anything to dismiss that. It's so refreshing to see, all to often books of this nature dismiss the friends quite quickly and that doesn't happen here.

I really like the side characters as well. His Mum is great, Judy no nonsense and knows her son for who he is, there is no hiding here and she and her new husband respect that and look after him. Jess is fierce and unabashedly man-hungry. She eyes both Theo and his driver/friend/bodyguard in a frankly alarming manner, but has her friend's back when she needs it and knows what she wants and when she needs it. Callum is Theo's Jess equivalent and has clearly seen and helped his friend do some shady stuff, but when push comes to shove, he is like a brother to him and the bond feels like it runs deeper than anything familial. It was set up for Jess and Callum, and to be honest I was shipping that hard, but they never went there and the amusing tension between them really lifted the book.

And so we get into the bad points, which really detracted from the overall book if I am honest. Firstly, when did stalking become an attractive trope? There is nothing attractive or OK about stalking someone home, into their workplace, or on a trans-Atlantic holiday, and in this book Izzy did seem to protest and actually genuinely not like it. I'd really like for this trope to be got rid of. It's not healthy or good to promote and encourage that sort of behaviour.

Secondly, I get that emotional trauma can lead to mental incapacity when it comes to receiving affection or personal contact. I get that this must be hard and is a real thing, but that does not make it excusable or OK for him to knock his girlfriend out and not reap and form of repercussion. She has issues with male violence and previous sexual assault, so a literal punch to the face would damage the fundamental make up of their relationship and would be something that wouldn't be tolerated by her friends. Yet in this book he is forgiven without a measly discussion or anything.

Thirdly, and this is both a biggie and something I cannot believe I need to type. Murder is not attractive, or excusable, or something that should go unpunished. It doesn't matter that someone hit you or treated you in an unacceptable way, beating them to death should not be covered up by the police and should not be something anyone ignores or dismisses lightly. Murder twice is something that should cause life imprisonment. Being able to kill someone with one punch shows extreme pre meditated violence in the manner the book describes (the victim was lying down defenceless) is abhorrent and again, should not be covered up in any circumstance. Yes, the victim was a rapist and all round vile human, but it is not an excuse!! I wish this sort of thing was not glorified in this kind of book.

Lastly, and probably least importantly, in the state he was in at the end of the book he wouldn't have had the awareness to recognise her over anyone else, and he was either completely dead or he was able to be resuscitated, but the medical staff would decide this and not a hysterical girlfriend. He also wouldn't be able to perform sexual acts if he wasn't able to walk himself to the toilet. Sigh.

I feel like I've criticised this heavily, but I do want to say that I enjoyed it quite a lot. I wish these tropes weren't present, especially as the rest of the book was actually better than many in this genre. I enjoyed it, I'd recommend to many who like the genre, but I would do it with a heavy warning.

I have read all of Jodi Ellen Malpas’ books and enjoyed them so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed with this....
What a book - a great story based on a nurse call Izzy and a guy called Theo. They meet and Theo becomes obsessed with Izzy. Like most of Jodi’s books there is an element of sex and submissive sex.
They both have a past but your kept in the dark about most of it until the last quarter of the book,
I’m a huge fan of Jodi’s work and was thrilled when I got the opportunity to read her latest book as a eARC.
Thank you to both NetGalley and Orion Publishing for my eARC in exchange for my honest unbiased review

I’ve not read many Jodi Ellen Malpas books, and that changes right now. I love my big strong alpha men, and Theo Kane, is just that. A man tortured by his past who finds solace in the touch of one woman, Izzy White. Izzy too has a tumultuous past and she too discovers that the touch of one man can make her feel like she’s never felt before. From two different worlds, yet they have so much in common. Written from Izzy’s perspective we share her doubts and fears as she navigates her life trying to avoid confrontation, then in one night Theo becomes her saviour. She’s relied on no-one but herself for so long, can she put her faith and trust in one man? Theo has sworn to protect her no matter what, but would he be so forthcoming with his promises if he knew the full story of her past? Wonderful writing, characters that I fell in love with, and a story that pulled me in from the first chapter. A story not for the faint hearted, violent and extremely graphic, exactly how I like it. Five sinfully sexy stars from me. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Wow, I love Jodi's books and can't get enough of her alpha's and Theo just blew me away, For me he was different from her other men, and Izzy i really felt for her and what she goes through but she's a strong character and i loved that about her. I loved everything about this book and stayed up really late to finish as i couldn't put it down. If you love Jem's books then this really is a must read for you.

This book is an emotionally dark book about two broken people who eventually find out how they for together. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what had happened to make them like this, and at about 80 odd % I was screaming "no! She can't do that!" at my kindle whilst cooking dinner! Both characters were relatable and Theo is lush. I thought I had him nailed but I was so wrong! This was an amazing standalone read that will leave you wanting more.

Theo Kane how you stole my heart! <3
Gentleman Sinner starts out with a chance encounter between the dark and delicious Theo Kane and Izzy White a nurse while she is walking home from work late one night. He becomes a constant presence in her life whether she wants him there or not, but she soon realises that she cannot resist the temptation of the man and all of his persistence to get to know her. Both are broken, both hide secrets that neither wants to tell the other but that doesn't stop them having an amazing physical connection with each other. They have a slow burn chemistry that is off the charts. Theo is a man that Izzy knows she shouldn't get involved with but she just cannot help herself, as somehow they find that they both feel safe with each other and become each others lifeline.
I started out at the beginning of the book thinking here we go again, another controlling and stalkerish alpha male that has been done to death, but how wrong was I. Theo is a man like no other that i've read before. Yes he's a bad boy that dabbles on the wrong side of the law but he so very much more than that. As you get to know his character you get to see the deep hidden layers that he hides from the world, the deep love that he has for Izzy and the reasons for his need for a controlled environment. I double dare you not to fall in love with him!!!
Izzy was an amazing heroine, just the fact that she is a normal average woman, that has managed to fight back and make a life for herself after running from an horrendous past. The fact she questions why someone like Theo wants her, makes her humble and very human. As a reader it made it so easy for me to connect with her character. Plus she's a woman full of sass and I loved that about her.
After i'd finished reading this book I did feel that we were cut a little short on the details of what happened to Izzy, I would have liked to know a bit more about her but other than that the story was AMAZING! Gentleman Sinner definitely lived up to every expectation that I had and have come to expect from Jodi's writing.
If he ever has an opening but I doubt it (because he loves Izzy), all you ladies will want to go sinning with Theo Kane the "Gentleman Sinner".
5 JEMAZING STARS!

JODI IS THE FREAKIN QUEEN B!!!!

Holy shit!! This book totally took me by suprise like OhMiGod.... so fuckin amazing.

'I will treat you like a queen and fuck you like a whore.'

SWEET JESUS THEO!!!

I swear Jodi writes the most amazing alphas EVER. I think Theo is taking the top spot of my fave JEM alphas lol.

To start off with he's someone Izzy encounters. He kind of pissed me off every so often haha. But then the more I got to read the more I started to understand and love him.

Theo has his demons. But so does Izzy.

I seriously LOVED THIS WHOLE BOOK!!!

Izzy's best mate Jess and Theo's best mate Callum.... haha these two though 'I don’t know whether I want to fuck her or strangle her most.'

I'd love to see Jess and Callum have a book lol. That would be alot of fun haha.

I giggled, swooned, had to fan my face(hellooo hot sex scenes), gasped and had loads of those damn butterflies.

Loved, Loved, Loved it xx

So I’ve only previously read 1 of Jodi Ellen Malpas’ books but when I saw this book come up for review I jumped at the chance. The cover is beautiful, simple yet it grabs your attention and after reading the book I can see how it fits the story perfectly.
The storyline in Gentleman Sinner is fantastic. Jodi created a world that I want to be apart of. There are some very dark elements to this story. Rape and extreme violence. Some readers might not be ok with this.
The thing that was a bit disappointing was Izzy revelation of what happened to her. Not the revelation itself but the way it was delivered. I would of liked more detail of what she went through. She said in the book that she was basically kept prisoner at one point but the details were kind of skimmed over. But it didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the story.
The characters in this book are amazing. Complex with layers you get to peel back and find out more.
Izzy is on of the best female characters I have read in a long time. She’s had a hard time in part of her life, but she has picked herself up, moved on with her life and has got a good career and future ahead of her.
Theo Kane.
What can I say about this man.
I love him.
I loved everything about his character. He hasn’t had an easy upbringing but he’s getting through life the only way he knows how.
These two characters make my heart happy. Their story had me gripped from page 1 and I was on the edge of seat the whole time reading. I couldn’t put the book down.
I love Izzy’s best friend Jess and Theo’s best friend Callum. I seriously hope they get their own book because it would be a one click book from me!

I could n't get in to this at all.
I didn't like the heroine. I found her annoying.
There is no cheating.
There are no intimate details of anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
HEA.
Standalone.
Izzy White knows of the darkness in this world. After all, she escaped it long ago. Determined not to let her past beat her, Izzy has a secure, stable life with a job she loves in nursing. But one act of kindness will completely upend everything she's so carefully built-putting her right back in the crosshairs of danger she's been so desperate to avoid.

When Theo Kane shows up like a knight in shining armor, Izzy can't help thinking she's been saved from one threat and exposed to another. His imposing physique, the harsh lines of his face, and the wariness of everyone who comes close are just a few clues to Theo Kane's notorious reputation. The man is positively terrifying. But with Izzy, he's tender and a complete gentleman, and her fascination with the mysterious beast of a man becomes too powerful for her to walk away.

As Theo's demons come to light, running becomes even more impossible. And yet staying together could doom them both.
