Finding Grace
KL Slater
Description
This morning, my daughter sat right here, munching her breakfast, too excited to finish it. Now, she is missing.
The day after her ninth birthday, Lucie and Blake Sullivan agree, for the very first time, to let their daughter, Grace, make the four-minute walk back home alone from a friend’s house just down the street.
They joke with friends about hiding behind bushes to ensure she is safe. But the joke turns sour when Grace does not appear.
Despite the best efforts of the police and the local community, Grace seems to have vanished into thin air. With hope fading fast, Lucie knows she can rely on her husband to support her through such dark times. That is until the day she makes a shocking discovery, hidden in Blake’s desk, and suddenly she begins to doubt everything she knew about the man she married.
But Lucie harbors a terrible secret of her own. One that she has never shared with anyone, even Blake …
And as the search for Grace reaches fever pitch, Lucie receives a terrifying message. If she is ever to see Grace again, Lucie has no choice but to face the past she tried hard to bury forever. And she must do it alone.
The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the bestselling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on Finding Grace.
I received an advance copy of the book for my honest review from NetGalley.
There was just everyone had secrets. It seemed difficult to get thru the book. I wanted to stick it out, it was pretty clear how it would end. Maybe too many issues stacked on one another for me.
I’ve loved every one of KL Slater’s previous books, so I was looking forward to this new one. It’s a very solid mystery. Lucie and Blake’s daughter Grace disappeared while taking a short walk home, alone. She was being watched by her friend’s father and by her own dad, so how could she disappear in the space of a few seconds? Blake seems to be keeping secrets, but it’s Lucie who knows she’s a liar and a fraud. Could this have anything to do with Grace’s disappearance? And there is my problem with this novel… Lucie is not very bright. I guess you have to have all kinds of characters in books, but I can only describe her as dumb so it was so hard to root for her. Most of the time I wanted to slap her. I wanted to find out where Grace was, and see her returned home safely, but not really because of her mother. Honestly, if I had killed Kennedy and confessing to it would bring my daughter home, I would. The novel is well written and the rest of the characters were convincing, I just didn’t like the twist and the ending felt forced. I’m sorry to give this book a negative review, as I loved the author’s previous novels. Maybe it was just me.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/ Bookouture!
FINDING GRACE is the new thriller from K.L. Slater, an author who is fast becoming one of my favorites in the genre.
Lucie and Blake decide to let their 9 year-old daughter, Grace, walk home alone from her friend's house for the very first time as a special birthday treat. It's on the same street, and they have a plan in place to make sure eyes are on her the whole time. Unfortunately, eyes are not on her the whole time, and she goes missing in the tiniest window of time imaginable.
Lucie and Blake are understandably frantic with worry, and have no clue how this could have happened. With the police involved, they are still no closer to finding out what happened to Grace. It turns out that their Lucie and Blake's secrets may have something to do with her disappearance. When Lucie finds something hidden in Blake's desk, her suspicions are aroused. Lucie also has something in her past that she has spent years keeping hidden, and that incident might have to be brought to light if it leads her daughter back to them.
This was a gripping thriller that started pretty common with the "missing child" story line, but K.L. Slater throws in curve balls and twists that kept me engaged the whole way through. Her last novel, CLOSER, was probably my favorite book of hers with a twisted cliffhanger ending, so I was a tad disappointed that this wasn't a follow up, but this is still a solid thriller with great writing, surprising circumstances, and memorable characters. I would definitely recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley, author K.L. Slater, and Bookouture for an ARC.
K L Slater has once again excelled with her latest book Finding Grace and is fast becoming the queen of the psychological thriller genre.Lucie and Blake's daughter Grace has just turned 9 and is nagging her parents to let her walk home from her friends house on her own now she is all grown up ! Well what can go wrong ? it's only a 4 minute walk up the same street, but it turns into a nightmare when Grace goes missing on her walk home.Wracked with guilt Lucie and Blake start to turn on each other and secrets and lies are laid bare in their relationship and Lucie is forced to revisit her traumatic past when she was at university sixteen years ago,The story is told in present day and in flashbacks to Lucie's past and although it is only January i can predict without a doubt Finding Grace will be one of the best books i read all year and i read alot ! A brilliant unputdownable psychological thriller i can't praise highly enough, for me Kim Slater can't write fast enough as all of her books have been excellent.Superb 5 star read.
I’m typically a fan of Slater’s. Perhaps because of the number of her books I’ve read in the past, it made this one too predictable to me. Maybe I’m also just making excuses for a book that just failed to live up to its promises. It took me a long time to read this easy to read book because I was just bored by it. I hate saying that because I am a fan, but this book just wasn’t very good. It felt churned out for the sake of contact obligations, not a true work of inspiration or much effort. It wasn’t for me.
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
This review isn't going to be long. I'm not a huge fan of a review rehashing the entire plot and spoiling it for everyone.
There were many unexpected twists and turns. I thought I had it all figured out, I was wrong! This was a riviting story. I will read more of the author's work.
Another brilliant book by K L Slater .Grace a nine year old little girl has gone missing on her way home from her friends . What has happened to her did anybody see anything . Secrets between Blake & Lucie do they have anything to do with her going missing . This book keeps you hooked to the end . Can’t wait to read the next novel
3 Stars.
A Twisted Mystery Suspense!
Grace is 9 years old the day she goes missing. She had convinced her parents that she wanted to walk home from her friend’s house that day. It was only a 5 minute walk and her friend Olivia’s father was supposed to watch her walk part of the way and her dad Blake was supposed to watch her come round the bend. Somewhere in between she went missing “just like that.”
Grace’s mom Lucie is beside herself. If only Lucie hadn’t said yes when her daughter insisted. Blake, Grace’s dad is a Councilman. Could his job be the reason Grace is missing? Turns out he’s been keeping secrets. Lucie has a few secrets of her own, things her husband knows nothing about. We all know what secrets can do to a family.. The question is, where is little Grace?
“Finding Grace” is K.L. Slater’s newest mystery suspense is quite compelling and twisted! It started out strong but petered out a little in the end as the storyline became a bit far-fetched. For those who like K.L. Slater, I think they will find this an enjoyable, easy read.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and K.L. Slater for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Published on Goodreads on 1.27.19.
I have read all of K L Slater’s books and this one did not disappoint.

Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was one I will admit I was a little apprehensive about reading as I have read similar themed booked and was unsure this one could live up. However this book did not disappoint, It was really enjoyable to read. Its told from the viewpoint of Lucie the mother of the missing child Grace and is told over two times lines; 16 years ago when Lucie was a student and the current day. The writing style really drew you in and I connected well with Lucie as a character. The book contained a few twists some of which I didn't see coming others were fairly obvious to me but overall a very enjoyable read
I am a massive fan of KL Slaters and was really happy to have the chance to read her latest book Finding Grace. In true Slater fashion there is always a lot of suspects, all of whom are hiding secrets from each other. Anybody could have been the guilty one. I love how her books are written and they are always a quick read for me, keeping me up late to finish them. This one was no different - you must read this book.
Grace has just turned 9 and is wanting a bit of independence. The day after her birthday she goes to Alton Towers with her best friend who lives 4 minutes down the road from Grace. On their return her parents allow her to walk home - but she does not make it. Immediately the police are called and the search is on to find Grace. Her parents Lucie and Blake both have secrets they are keeping from each other and they are really put to the test as the investigation continues. Her neighbours and friends all are under the spotlight. They will have to come clean and face their pasts in order to find their daughter.
A big thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.
I loved this book! I have read a few of this authors other books and thoroughly enjoyed them. This one was no exception. It kept me hooked from the first page to the very last and had some great twists and turns. Would def recommend this author
This book was very well written and was enjoyable to read. The characters were well developed and like-able.The plot moves along at a fairly fast pace. Little Grace goes missing in the blink of an eye while she walks home solo for the first time. We are taken through these parents nightmare with them. Could the motive be her fathers political position? her mothers secret past? or is someone else hiding something ? Does Grace survive this?
I was given the opportunity to read and review this from Netgalley. I have given it 4/5 as i found the plot slightly unoriginal and the ending felt a little rushed, as well there seemed to be a few random sprinkles of info thrown in but never really addressed. For example there are parts of the story making a big deal of the babies bump on his head, and the occurrence itself is noted in detail and then its never mentioned again.
Very quick read. Relatable charecters although the husband may be a bit too forgiving.
Not a lot of misdirection here but for the first half of the book, you did want to know what happened.
I'll definitely be looking for KL Slaters other works.
Thanks for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of FINDING GRACE by KL Slater in exchange for my honest review.***
4.5 STARS
Nine-year-old Grace vanishes on her first solo walk home from her friend’s house. Her mother Lucie frantically wonders if karma has come calling from a choice she made sixteen years ago. Now she’s receiving cryptic messages seemingly linked to the past. Time is of the essence due to Grace’s diabetes.
FINDING GRACE kept me wondering until the end. I had reason to suspect nearly everyone due to each person’s tenuous relationship with the truth. Even Grace’s best friend has a secret.
KL Slater drew me in from the get go and I finished the book in a few hours. The only reason I didn’t give FINDING GRACE five stars was that Lucie’s secret felt anticlimactic and was something I had seen on a procedural tv show. Still, I highly recommend #FindingGrace as an unputdownable mystery.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #bookouture for this ARC of #FindingGrace
K.L. Slater provides an outstanding narrative revolving around the mysterious events of a girl gone missing. Slater’s effort to subtly create an undertone of culpability among multiple characters is rewarded as the reader is left questioning everyone’s motive. Secrets, lies, twists and turns all have the reader hanging on until the very last page. Great read. 5 stars.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Finding Grace’ by K L Slater in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
To celebrate Grace’s ninth birthday her parents Lucie and Blake let her spend the day with her best friend Olivia and her parents Bev and Mike, and grudgingly let her do the short walk home from their house unaccompanied. Somewhere between Olivia’s house and her own Grace disappears and despite the police and their neighbours combing the area she can’t be found. Lucie thinks Blake is hiding something and during a search of his desk discovers something that shocks her, but Lucie has her own secrets from when she was at university sixteen years ago, and even Grace has a secret she doesn’t want to tell anyone for fear of making her mum ill again.
‘Finding Grace’ is the story of a mother’s nightmare when her child who’s dependent on medication disappears and fears that if she isn’t found quickly she’ll slip into a coma. It’s a superbly chilling psychological thriller that’s very easy to read and impossible to put down, with the tension mounting as the story progresses. It has a mind-blowing plot, interesting characters and twists and turns, but the biggest twist of all comes at the end which wasn’t what I was expecting and left me open-mouthed with surprise. Once again K L Slater has written a stunner of a novel and one which will, to my mind, undoubtedly become a best seller!
