There has been so many books flooding the “child missing” book market that I second guessed whether to read this or not.
But how could I pass this by. I reasoned with myself that this book was written by KL Slater whose books I’ve always enjoyed. Could I pass this one by without at least giving it a “go”?

I couldn’t.

I am so glad I read this as the book has so much to offer than a topic plot that’s been hashed to death over the last year or so.
This is so much more than Grace goes missing.

We all have to learn to allow our children to grow in confidence and independence.
We can’t ‘baby’ our children forever.

But was it too early to allow a nine year old girl to walk just a short distance down to her friends house?
Her father watched her go. The girls father the other end watched her arrive. Both doing this secretly
so that Grace wouldn’t know. But on her way back she never returns.

It’s not just based on the disappearance of Grace though and I was soon to find out more about Lucie the mom. The dad. Lucies friend Bev and her husband down the road.

There were many puzzling factors that kept me turning pages.

The dark side was brilliant! I loved this......a lot!

Finding Grace was a good read. Perhaps a little predictable but enjoyable. When 9 year old Grace is finally allowed to walk the straight 5 minutes home from her friends house it is an awful shock to all when she doesn’t return. Sure Dad had his head in his phone (cautionary tale of our over use of mobile phones) when he should have been watching, but really it was a straightforward walk home.
But as the hours tick by and there are no sitings of Grace, no one is above suspicion.
We have flashbacks to Mom’s past in university and how no one ever knew why she abruptly left university mid semester but the past always has a way of catching up with us. Even when we think it is dead and buried......is it ever truly?

All In all a satisfying read. Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me this ARC. K.L. Slater continued to turn out good reading!

I would like to thank Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is a pretty great book. It’s a simple enticing mystery/thriller that keeps you hooked without giving away too many of its secrets too fast, or too slow. It has a great pace, the narrative moves along without becoming too drawn out or boring. The characters are a complex enough and well developed. The main character is not cookie cutter good, she makes some questionable choices but the story line is developed enough to understand and relate to her decisions. Overall this is a decent book. Quick easy read that you won’t want to put down.

This is my second novel by this author and I'm hooked!

Lucie and Blake are very attentive and loving parents to 9 year old Grace and baby Oscar. Lucie reluctantly agrees to let Grace walk home from her best friend's house one day, despite her inner voice screaming that it was a bad idea. Thinking she may be projecting her own fears onto her child based on incidents in her past life, she decides to give in. They've installed a fail safe plan where nothing could go wrong...or so they thought. Once quick glace at a phone, one little slip on a slippery walkway was all it took for their lives to be turned upside down in an instant. Grace never rounded the bend from her friend's house. She's just vanished...

Lucie has secrets. Huge secrets that she's kept from even those she holds most dear. But those could have nothing to do with Grace disappearing, could it? Blake is the one on his way up the political ladder, surely his career would be more likely to attract someone with a vendetta to snatch their daughter and cause them to suffer. As the story unfolds with it's many twists and turns, we find out that no secret can stay buried forever and some people just won't let go.

I really enjoyed this story. My only criticism would be that maybe all of the twists weren't necessary? Some felt rushed to resolve and tie up at the end. But overall it was a great book and I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy to read and review.

Finding Grace is one hell of a book! Twists and turns everywhere while managing to be still believable with a strong plot...I mean what else can you ask for!? I was a little put off since I've read plenty of other books recently with a similar storyline but Finding Grace puts them all to shame.
Stop reading my review and read the book instead! 5/5

Where do I start with this story? I have been tied up in knots due to the storyline, what an amazing psychological thriller. We all have to have that discussion at some point about what age our children can walk down the road a little, to a friends house, without being accompanied. Imagine the first time you let your child do this and they go missing - this really is every parents nightmare.
A fantastic two sided story of now, with Grace missing and when Graces Mum was a university student years ago. What would you do to get your child back? Who can be trusted? Amazing story telling by the author, I totally devoured this book in one sitting. I highly recommend this book

This morning, my daughter sat right here, munching her breakfast, too excited to finish it. Now, she is missing. The day after her ninth birthday, Lucie and Blake Sullivan agree, for the very first time, to let their daughter, Grace, make the four-minute walk back home alone from a friend’s house just down the street.

Despite the best efforts of the police and local community, Grace seems to have vanished into thin air. With hope fading fast, Lucie knows she can rely on her husband to support her through such dark times. That is until the day she makes a shocking discovery, hidden in Blake’s desk, and suddenly she begins to doubt everything she knew about the man she married.

But Lucie harbours a terrible secret of her own. One that she has never shared with anyone, even Blake and as the search for Grace reaches fever pitch, Lucie receives a terrifying message. If she is ever to see Grace again, Lucie has no choice but to face the past she tried hard to bury forever. And she must do it alone.

K.L. Slater is one of my absolute favorite authors and this book just proves why! She knows how to write the perfect thriller, Finding Grace is another fast paced, heart racing thriller.

Description
This morning, my daughter sat right here, munching her breakfast, too excited to finish it. Now, she is missing.

The day after her ninth birthday, Lucie and Blake Sullivan agree, for the very first time, to let their daughter, Grace, make the four-minute walk back home alone from a friend’s house just down the street.

They joke with friends about hiding behind bushes to ensure she is safe. But the joke turns sour when Grace does not appear.

Despite the best efforts of the police and the local community, Grace seems to have vanished into thin air. With hope fading fast, Lucie knows she can rely on her husband to support her through such dark times. That is until the day she makes a shocking discovery, hidden in Blake’s desk, and suddenly she begins to doubt everything she knew about the man she married.

But Lucie harbors a terrible secret of her own. One that she has never shared with anyone, even Blake …

And as the search for Grace reaches fever pitch, Lucie receives a terrifying message. If she is ever to see Grace again, Lucie has no choice but to face the past she tried hard to bury forever. And she must do it alone.

The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the bestselling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on Finding Grace.

I received an advance copy of the book for my honest review from NetGalley.
There was just everyone had secrets. It seemed difficult to get thru the book. I wanted to stick it out, it was pretty clear how it would end. Maybe too many issues stacked on one another for me.

I’ve loved every one of KL Slater’s previous books, so I was looking forward to this new one. It’s a very solid mystery. Lucie and Blake’s daughter Grace disappeared while taking a short walk home, alone. She was being watched by her friend’s father and by her own dad, so how could she disappear in the space of a few seconds? Blake seems to be keeping secrets, but it’s Lucie who knows she’s a liar and a fraud. Could this have anything to do with Grace’s disappearance? And there is my problem with this novel… Lucie is not very bright. I guess you have to have all kinds of characters in books, but I can only describe her as dumb so it was so hard to root for her. Most of the time I wanted to slap her. I wanted to find out where Grace was, and see her returned home safely, but not really because of her mother. Honestly, if I had killed Kennedy and confessing to it would bring my daughter home, I would. The novel is well written and the rest of the characters were convincing, I just didn’t like the twist and the ending felt forced. I’m sorry to give this book a negative review, as I loved the author’s previous novels. Maybe it was just me.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/ Bookouture!

FINDING GRACE is the new thriller from K.L. Slater, an author who is fast becoming one of my favorites in the genre.

Lucie and Blake decide to let their 9 year-old daughter, Grace, walk home alone from her friend's house for the very first time as a special birthday treat. It's on the same street, and they have a plan in place to make sure eyes are on her the whole time. Unfortunately, eyes are not on her the whole time, and she goes missing in the tiniest window of time imaginable.

Lucie and Blake are understandably frantic with worry, and have no clue how this could have happened. With the police involved, they are still no closer to finding out what happened to Grace. It turns out that their Lucie and Blake's secrets may have something to do with her disappearance. When Lucie finds something hidden in Blake's desk, her suspicions are aroused. Lucie also has something in her past that she has spent years keeping hidden, and that incident might have to be brought to light if it leads her daughter back to them.

This was a gripping thriller that started pretty common with the "missing child" story line, but K.L. Slater throws in curve balls and twists that kept me engaged the whole way through. Her last novel, CLOSER, was probably my favorite book of hers with a twisted cliffhanger ending, so I was a tad disappointed that this wasn't a follow up, but this is still a solid thriller with great writing, surprising circumstances, and memorable characters. I would definitely recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley, author K.L. Slater, and Bookouture for an ARC.

K L Slater has once again excelled with her latest book Finding Grace and is fast becoming the queen of the psychological thriller genre.Lucie and Blake's daughter Grace has just turned 9 and is nagging her parents to let her walk home from her friends house on her own now she is all grown up ! Well what can go wrong ? it's only a 4 minute walk up the same street, but it turns into a nightmare when Grace goes missing on her walk home.Wracked with guilt Lucie and Blake start to turn on each other and secrets and lies are laid bare in their relationship and Lucie is forced to revisit her traumatic past when she was at university sixteen years ago,The story is told in present day and in flashbacks to Lucie's past and although it is only January i can predict without a doubt Finding Grace will be one of the best books i read all year and i read alot ! A brilliant unputdownable psychological thriller i can't praise highly enough, for me Kim Slater can't write fast enough as all of her books have been excellent.Superb 5 star read.

I’m typically a fan of Slater’s. Perhaps because of the number of her books I’ve read in the past, it made this one too predictable to me. Maybe I’m also just making excuses for a book that just failed to live up to its promises. It took me a long time to read this easy to read book because I was just bored by it. I hate saying that because I am a fan, but this book just wasn’t very good. It felt churned out for the sake of contact obligations, not a true work of inspiration or much effort. It wasn’t for me.

This was a book that I really didn’t want to put down. It is the first K.L. Slater book that I have read, but it won’t be the last. For me the suspense started almost from the beginning. The book travels back in time throughout the story which I believe only adds to the suspense. The story is told mostly from the standpoint of Lucie, the mother. This greatly assisted in getting to know the character and developing a care for her and her well being. This book hits shelves in February. I definitely recommend picking it up.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to have an advance copy of this book so that I could review it.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

This review isn't going to be long. I'm not a huge fan of a review rehashing the entire plot and spoiling it for everyone.

There were many unexpected twists and turns. I thought I had it all figured out, I was wrong! This was a riviting story. I will read more of the author's work.

3 Stars.

A Twisted Mystery Suspense!

Grace is 9 years old the day she goes missing. She had convinced her parents that she wanted to walk home from her friend’s house that day. It was only a 5 minute walk and her friend Olivia’s father was supposed to watch her walk part of the way and her dad Blake was supposed to watch her come round the bend. Somewhere in between she went missing “just like that.”

Grace’s mom Lucie is beside herself. If only Lucie hadn’t said yes when her daughter insisted. Blake, Grace’s dad is a Councilman. Could his job be the reason Grace is missing? Turns out he’s been keeping secrets. Lucie has a few secrets of her own, things her husband knows nothing about. We all know what secrets can do to a family.. The question is, where is little Grace?

“Finding Grace” is K.L. Slater’s newest mystery suspense is quite compelling and twisted! It started out strong but petered out a little in the end as the storyline became a bit far-fetched. For those who like K.L. Slater, I think they will find this an enjoyable, easy read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and K.L. Slater for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Published on Goodreads on 1.27.19.
