I truly wanted to love this book. I loved how it starts out and I do like the premise a lot. However, I really struggled with the inconsistency of format and style from story to story. This may not bother some readers but my 8-year-old and I both really struggled that some are written as poetry, others include a lot of rhyming, others truly invite you into the story, and others are more standard storytelling. This would be a book to read during Lent and is a great way to teach children about Christ's love and goodness- the style just didn't work for me.

This book retells the events of Holy Week and the First Easter in bitesize chunks for a young reader. Told in accessible language, Bob Hartman makes each story easy to understand in his familiar repetitive style. The important parts of each event are often repeated throughout and the book includes some hints to make the stories more interactive for a young audience listening and participating in the retelling. I will definitely consider using this book in collective worship during the run up to Easter in school.

Many thanks to the publisher from whom I received an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

What a delight to read and see such amazing stories and pictures? From Easter all the way to Jesus' ascension was made very real even more by this epic novel!

The author has been touched by God's words and shared it with clear and focused vivid pictures in this book!

I gave an honest review of this novel in exchange for a copy of it. More than a 5 star book! It leads to a better understanding of the BIble!

Lovely book. Really enjoyed reading to my children. We should never stop trying to teach them what we can

This is a wonderful retelling of the Easter Story for children who perhaps need a little more of a challenge than the picture book, but aren’t quite ready for the language the Bible has to offer.
It can easily be read over a number of nights or given to a stronger reader for a one off read.
