This book is adorable! My students have already read and loved “Madeline Finn and the Library Dog,” so I knew they were going to love another story involving Madeline. Papp has the same style with adorable illustrations and the perfectly small amount of words on each page. This story not only tells a precious story of a girl finding a dog, but served as the perfect opportunity for my students to learn how to care for the world around them through volunteering with animals. We had some wonderful conversations centered around this book and I am sharing it with my colleagues as well. Five stars!

We love Madeline Finn and were very excited to see another book with her. The shelter dog aspect was great and pulled at heart strings we all have. As a teacher in a school filed with animal advocates, I can see this book having a huge impact. The power of children and their ideas is ever present in this book and I love that.

I haven't read the first book about Madeline Finn, but I don't think it's strictly necessary to have read it to enjoy this one. Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog is a really cute book about a little girl who, when she finds out that the animals in the shelter don't have anyone to love them or read to them, sets out to make sure the animals are all taken care of.

The illustrations are absolutely adorable. Madeline herself is a cute kid, and I like how her bunny toy is always at her side. (I'm assuming this is something that was part of the first book as well.)

If I have any complaint, it's with the title. Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog sounds like it should feature one of the dogs quite prominently as a character, and while I know which dog the title is referring to, I'm having trouble seeing why it gets top billing. Perhaps if the book had been called something like Madeline Finn and the Animal Shelter Reading Project, it would've made more sense to me. (I get why the title was chosen; it fits in with the first book in the series. I'm just not sure if it really fits in with the story.)

Overall, though, I really enjoyed this one. The pictures are cute, and it's fun to try to pick out the repeating elements (like the bunny toy, the bag of books, and Miss Ivy's bird). This would be a great book for kids who love animals and reading... and reading to animals!

I read this book to my 8-year old daughter. She loved it! She thought the puppies were cute. I enjoyed the story as well, I thought the pictures were great and the story had a nice positive message. Great book for children who love animals, have pets, or would like to get a pet.

This was a very heartwarming book about Madeline wanting to help the animals in the shelter by donating towels and blankets so they will be more comfortable and having children read to them to make them less lonely.

I loved this story and read it to my 5 year old grandson. He is learning to read and fights it somewhat but he loved the idea of reading to his dog. I asked him what he liked about the story and he said he liked that the animals didn't have to be lonely. I think it will encourage him to read to his dog.

I will recommend this book to friends and co workers for their libraries. Thank you to Netgalley for a chance to read and review this book.

What an adorable book! Madeline wants a dog, and after ages of pleading, finally gets one. Her mother took her to a breeder who allowed Madeline to pick out the puppy she wanted (or rather find the puppy that picked out Madeline). Mrs. Dimple invited Madeline to visit the animal shelter with her where Madeline learned that not all pets are as lucky as her puppy, Star. Day after day, Madeline and her mother visit the shelter and Madeline learns how to rally the community to help with a cause. Papp's story and illustrations perfectly capture the love and power one small girl can have.

Thank you NetGalley and Peachtree Publishing for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy.
