I’ve read this book twice in the past year and honestly? I’d read it again tomorrow. Throne of Glass lives rent-free in my head like it owns the place, pays utilities, and reorganized my emotional storage closet for good measure.

Celaena Sardothien is the unhinged, morally flexible chaos gremlin of my dreams. Assassin with a love of books and pretty dresses? Yes. Please. Inject that directly into my bloodstream. The vibes are everything—danger, sass, secrets, and a slow-burn unraveling of something much bigger than it first appears.

It starts like a classic “girl competes in a deadly tournament to win her freedom” story, but then Maas goes full galaxy-brain and layers in magic, politics, ancient mysteries, and feelings (ugh, the feelings). Also, the love triangle? I know it’s divisive but listen—I am invested.

Reading this again after knowing where the series goes is like time-traveling with insider info and a lot more heartbreak. If you’re into fierce heroines, hidden powers, flirty banter, and the slow burn of an empire rising from the ashes—you’re gonna devour this.

And then probably scream into a pillow because it’s only the beginning.

I struggle to review this. The story and world building is amazing. The characters are basic and built on standard character tropes but still fun to follow. The downside of this book is the writing. It’s so strange to say because there’s a lot of good writing and you can’t world build without it, the constant use of the same adverbs and and adjectives to describe speaking and moving is nauseating. Seriously - someone get this author a thesaurus or a better editor.

I love Maas’s world building and I was constantly looking for connections in the story and lore to her other series. I really loved all the characters in this. While I recognize that Celeana has problematic traits - such as being extremely arrogant and angry at times - I also really loved her as a whole. My only complaint is that she is very jumpy and skittish for being the world’s best assassin?? Like what is that about? Chaol, Dorian, Nahemia? I love them all.

Throne of Glass kicks off Sarah J. Maas' debut series, and boy what a debut it is! Who would have thought it would go on to the be phenomenon it did?

I truly love this book! I've read the first entry in the series too many times to count. Celeana is such a strong, badass female character. I'm truly a sucker for stories with female assassins and this book ticks all those boxes. Plus we get amazing potential romantic interests with Dorian and Chaol (I was fully team Chaol in this book).

The world building was phenomenal and I loved watching the story unfold. I truly did not know where the tale would go next. The ending of this book always gets me!

With a superb plot, well-crafted characters and mystery and intrigue abound, this book is sure to capture the attention on any fantasy fan.

Reviewing old arcs, have tried to read but couldn't get into. Won't be trying again so no formal review will be posted on social media.

I ended up reading this book not through the egalley, but through the physical, finished copy. This review is five years old at this point, but I thought I would still update my Netgalley account regardless. I no longer follow this series, but I very much appreciate having the opportunity to review a galley copy! Thank you!

My apologies; if I requested this book, it appears that due to family commitments I was not able to read it before the book was archived. I'm sorry it has lingered this long.
