This story was fast and fun and exactly what I was looking for. I loved the characters, it read really fast, nothing heavy, just fun!

For a woman who seems to have bad luck with her every move, could her twin sister's ill fortune turn her luck around? That is the overall premise of this frenemies love story.

Olive Torres has never been a lucky girl, and her life just seems to be heading for a downward spiral, with the recent loss of her job and dwindling finances. However, the life takes a turn for the better, maybe, when she has to take her sister's, Amelia "Ami", place on a honeymoon, following a very unfortunate incident at Ami's wedding. The only catch is that Olive has to go with Ethan Thomas, the groom's brother, who she can't stand.

For Ethan, the feeling is mostly mutual, but who passes up a free vacation to Hawaii? All these two frenemies have to do is pretend to be married. Yikes! Good turns to bad early on when the reluctant couple run into not one, but two, people they know on the island, making the lies that much more difficult.

I thought Olive and Ethan were a bit immature with each other, and once they finally communicate like adults, they discover their hatred doesn't run deep at all. Basically, everything is a big misunderstanding. And once that discovery is made, the two quickly switch gears to see just how much they were missing out on. While the first part of the book had its humorous moments, in an OMG that's awful sort of way, I liked this second half of the book more.

"It's so exhausting pretending to hate you."

More shocking than their attraction to one another, is the revelations about Ethan's brother, Dane, Ami's new husband. NOT A FAN of his, AT ALL!!

This book did follow some of the authors formula as to when the drama unfolds (I can usually predict when the couple will hit rocky waters). I felt like all of the trust they built with each other, was so quickly dismantled, but that heartbreak usually leads to a sweet reunion, as is the case in this book.

"You think I'm cute?"
"In a gross way."

Overall, this was a fun story and would be a perfect beach read (which has a well timed release, 5/14, right before the summer season).

I think I found my favorite Christina Lauren novel??? The perfect amount of hate-to-love, angst and drama. Also, there isn't any unsolved plot points at the end. Also the epilogue was one of my favorite that they've ever written.

The Unhoneymooners will be an absolute delight for those enjoying chick-lit! It’ll be a rollicking good time!

Personally chick-lit is not my preferred genre. I feel bad assigning only 2 stars to this book, but assigning stars is a requirement. It should be noted that I'm not a chick lit devotee and consequently did not enjoy it, but I think others will.

I appreciate this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Readers who are suckers for enemies-turned-friends romances will love The Unhoneymooners. Absolutely hilarious (and yet believable) as Olive and Ethan slowly realize they've been wrong about each other all this time.

The Unhoneymooners was the perfect one-sitting read, and is likely to be my #1 most suggested beach read for early 2019.

When her twin sister's entire wedding falls ill with food poisoning, Olive Torres is forced to accept her pre-paid honeymoon, under one stipulation: the brother of the groom goes with her. Ethan is adamantly against eating from buffets and is spared from the misery of being sick, along with Olive and her shellfish allergy. Olive and Ethan do NOT like each other, and do not go into the free vacation with an open mind. The two find themselves sharing a honeymoon suite and trying to pass for a married couple to take advantage of the free amenities. Of course, "fake it until you make it" comes into play, and the two realize they may have started off on the wrong foot.

I love Christina Lauren's way of creating likable albeit "real" characters that you want to root for. Thanks to Netgalley and Gallery for the opportunity to read this in advance!

This was just a wonderful read. I'd definitely recommend it as a nice vacation read. Fast-paced, sweet, funny, and with a lot of heart I thoroughly enjoyed and flew through this novel. This was my first Christina Lauren book and it certainly won't be my last. I loved the characters and their banter. I also really appreciated the fun and relatable family dynamic. This novel is a definite home run.

So much of this book has all the usual charm and humor that I've come to love in Christina and Lauren's books. Unfortunately so much of it also has some people treating a really lovely, caring, funny and capable woman like total crap. And while they do all apologize for it there's that tasteless trope where, in the moment, they all have "reasons" for their behavior that get played as total justification for saying and doing some really heinous things to aforementioned heroine.

I just could never get over how horrible Olive's sister and boyfriend are to her regardless of how much they ultimately apologize or what their reasons might have been for being so hateful to her in the first place. The way forgiveness is also used as something that must happen in order for a person who's been wronged to "grow" or "move on" also didn't sit right with me. There would have been something very refreshing about Olive realizing that it matters when someone you love shows their true colors as a person who doesn't trust or respect you enough to believe you the first time. Sometimes people don't deserve second chances, sometimes that's their teachable moment, that they screwed up and there are consequences.

I think if Ethan and Olive's conflict had been more centered on his hesitance in believing Olive rather than just outright calling her liar with negativity issues I would have had less of a problem. Compounding his disbelief with shaming and name calling just makes him too much of a jerk to want me to see them get back together. Same goes for Olive's sister Ami. These people say truly horrible things to Olive and reveal really, really ugly stuff about themselves in the process.

Also? Being cynical or feeling unlucky in your life aren't things that make you a bad person who needs fixing. Olive feels that way because she's treated that way by other people. Yes, there's something to be said for your attitude toward the world informing how the world sees you, but that doesn't mean people aren't also treating you like a second class citizen compared to your gorgeous and amazing twin sister. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

There was a really awful negative cloud hanging over this whole book that left me very dissatisfied.

I think this has got to be one of my favorites by Christina Lauren. This was a hate-to-love story about Olive and Ethan, who are stuck together going on someone else's honeymoon.

I laughed out loud so many times while reading. I enjoyed the plot and Olive's family dynamic. Even though this wasn't as steamy as their other books, I really appreciated it. It made the issues in the book stand out.

I highly recommend this if you want a light and funny love story.

Thank you NetGalley for my arc. I was really hoping to like this book but I just couldn’t get into it. I was not able to finish

3.5 stars. I thought Olive and Ethan made a great match. It was fun to read them slowly getting under each other's skin in more ways than annoyance. Coming from a big hispanic family, I sometimes get wary when reading about one in a book because I'm always worried it'll be in a stereotypical or negative light. I was happy to see that even though it was noted how Olive's family could at times be overwhelming, the love and support they were quick to give her in her time of need was displayed. I think that's the most positive part of having a large and opinionated hispanic family. They are quick to try to find a way to help you when you need it most.

The only criticisms I have on the book are the fade to black sex scenes and Ethan's long-held support of Dane. I don't have an issue with fade to black scenes in general, but I felt like in this book, it just didn't fit. The enemies-to-lovers trope works so well because the sexual tension is slowly escalating as they are forced to spend more time together. It usually feels like all the frustration and tension finally accumulates during the sex scenes, and I think it just felt like my anticipation sort of fizzled when it went from Olive and Ethan starting to finally have their long-awaited moment, to all of a sudden it being the next morning.

Ethan's staunch support of Dane also sort of turned me off. I understand having trouble realizing and accepting that your image of your sibling is not at all correct, but to hold off believing your hurting girlfriend for so long just didn't feel right. Olive was so obviously betrayed that Ethan would think she was lying, and yet he still held off until he saw the reality with his own eyes to finally decide to apologize to Olive.

Despite those criticisms, I still thought this was an entertaining book. Olive was a great character to read, and I enjoyed seeing her grow. I was also happy to see Ami get her own HEA. I wouldn't mind reading a novella about her and Lucas tbh lol.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I'm happy to report that I enjoyed this one much more than I have the last several books I've read. I laughed out loud reading...more than a few times.

Something that Christina Lauren have is a niche and writing familiarity that they just slide into and you find yourself sucked into the story...not wanting to adult until you have finished the book. I've gotta be honest, I almost needed a work slip today, LOL!

The Unhoneymooners is like a sweet, almost light enemies to lovers story, and I absolutely loved it. I would give this one a 4.5 star rating, and again thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy to review

I loved this book! Romance is not usually my genre and I was so delighted with this book. Olive and Ethan's relationship was hilarious, heart warming and real. I cant wait to recommend this book to all of my followers!

This hits all the right rom-com notes. It was light and fun and enjoyable to see two main characters who were generally good people and both made believable mistakes. I appreciated that the big misunderstanding that took place between them before the story starts is realistic and not over-the-top. The part of the story that took place in Maui was definitely the more fun part of the story--I did feel like we spent a lot of time on the first half of the trip and the last half was kind of just skipped over. The last third of the book kind of almost felt like a different story, but it did resolve some questions that came up during the honeymoon. The big point of conflict involved something that I think was a bit of a stretch to believe had not come up or been revealed until this point. Overall, this was a fun read, although I definitely enjoyed the first half more than the latter half.

Olive is convinced that she has the worst luck ever while her twin sister, Ami, wins everything, including many contests to fund her wedding and honeymoon for free! Unfortunately, Ami and nearly every guest at the wedding get food poisoning at the reception, and Ami can't go on her honeymoon in Maui. Ami offers the trip to Olive, but Ami's husband, offers is to his brother, Ethan, who can't stand Olive. The two set off on the trip together determined to have a good time despite having to be with each other and sparks fly.

3.5 stars. The premise of this book totally sucked me in -- a maid of honor/best man have to go on a dream sweepstakes honeymoon to Hawaii after everyone else at the wedding gets food poisoning? And they hate each other? I'm totally sold. The first two thirds of the book were really fun, but I didn't love the last third. The Ami/Dane storyline felt like a really heavy final crescendo of the book. I also wish this has been dual POV, especially since the epilogue is from Ethan's point of view. But it is still a really fun read that will make you wish you were on a Hawaiian vacation.

This amusing romantic comedy from the writing team of Christina Lauren tells the story of Olive Torres and Ethan Thomas. Olive has always felt a black cloud hovered over her head and that the only luck she has is the bad kind. Catastrophes, disasters, and crazy mishaps seem to plague her while her identical twin, Ami, scores the good stuff of life in a big way. Ami is a contest pro who wins all manner of goodies including a wedding and honeymoon. When disaster strikes the wedding party and guests, only two remained unscathed. Olive and her brother-in-law, Ethan, who have been enemies of a sort since Ami and Dane have been together.

Olive has also recently lost her job and so is free to take Ami’s place on a ten day trip to Maui if she can just put up with Ethan while pretending to be his wife. There’s quite a bit of snark, insults, and rude comments going on between them, but as Hawaii works its magic on this “uncouple,” they find that loathing can turn to love. Someone did not want Olive and Ethan together so like a Shakespearean comedy of errors, secrets begin to unravel. They have to keep up the subterfuge of being the honeymoon couple or be in big trouble. Naturally because of what Olive thinks is her enduring bad luck, people they know show up to complicate the deceit.

Olive’s big and raucous Mexican family “helps” by being as invasive as possible so that adds to the fun. Ethan is quite loyal to his brother, Dane, though Olive is not a big fan of her new brother-in-law, but for the love of her sister, she welcomes him in to the fold. When fiction becomes truth for Olive and Ethan, they prove that the course of true love never did run smooth to keep with the Shakespearean theme.

This enemies to lovers story kept me quite entertained with its wit, humor, and pleasurable storyline. With laugh out loud moments and some heart-wrenchers, fans will be quite pleased with this tale of two people whose crossed swords become hearts entwined. I happily give this book five stars as I enjoyed every page of it.

Review: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

What a cute and fun read! This romantic comedy tells the story of Olive and Ethan, two people who entered one another's lives through the marriage of their siblings and who have disliked one another from day one. Olive's twin Ami has just married Ethan's brother Dane, and in a bout of seriously bad luck everyone at the wedding has contracted food poisoning--everyone, that is, except for Olive and Ethan. This feels like good luck to them, minus the catch--now their siblings want them to take their honeymoon to Hawaii, so that the trip doesn't get wasted.
.
Cue ten days of Olive and Ethan spending time together at an all-inclusive resort in Maui, pretending to be married so that they don't get caught for fraud. What ensues is a flurry of confused emotions, funny encounters, and cute little moments.
.
I really liked this book. It moved at a good pace, it was appropriately hilarious and sad at the right moments, and the connection that Olive and Ethan share felt more realistic than in some romcoms. Plus, on a cold day in Pennsylvania it was fun to be transported to warmer weather and vacation vibes!
.
I'll be honest--if one year ago you would have told me that I'd enjoy the occasional romcom read, I would have laughed at you. I considered it "not my genre", and stayed away from it. After trying out The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory last year, though, I realized that I couldn't really consider myself a person who actively tries to "read across genres" if I was avoiding some genres entirely based on stereotypes. Now I've changed my tune, and I am glad that I can enjoy this genre that I was missing out on before!
.
This is my first @christinalauren book, and I will certainly be trying out some of their others as well! If you've read others, which Christina Lauren book should I pick up next?

As usual, Christina Lauren delivers the goods with charming characters, interesting settings and realistic, messy love. I, personally, _never_ read chick lit, which this pretty much is, but the authors' writing is so good that even I have become addicted to their works. Well done!

Olive and Ethan are sworn enemies and future in-laws. When chaos descends on the wedding of Olive's twin sister to Ethan's younger brother, the two are paired to go on the nonrefundable honeymoon to paradise. The Unhoneymooners is hate to love, romcom perfection. I had such a good time with these characters. I caught myself smiling several times. I plan to preorder a physical copy. Thanks Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this title.
