If you are looking for a sweet little romance, this one is not for you, but if you are looking for a story that captures your attention from the first page, look no further.
Zoey Wright has spent most of her life in hospitals due to a serious heart condition. Now that she is healthy and back in control, she is thriving, and taking chances. Her new job as a CSI agent is one she is very good at.
Knox Steele, a former Army Ranger, is back in DC for a short time. He’s been away from his family for over 2 years. They feel he abandoned them, he feels he is not good for them.
Detective Cade Wright, is Zoey’s brother and Knox’s best friend. When they meet up at a crime scene, Knox comes face to face with Zoey , the girl he’s always watched from afar and one he will never have.
As the friendship develops into more, so does the danger of a serial killer.
It’s a story with a complex plot filled with a whodunit, bad guys, hunky good guys , strong and romance.
But it’s more than that. It’s a story about family and friendship.
Can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us in this series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and the Hachette Book Group. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I feel like I shouldn't love this book but I do!! I couldn't put it down from the second I started reading the book.

The characters were fun, sassy, family and the theme to live your life to the fullest knowing life could throw you a curb ball changing everything.

April Hunt as the ability to create Alpha characters who are charming, funny, love the women in their lives. The women as snarky, feisty, strong and know who they are before the men come into their lives.

April Hunt is able to write steamy sexy scenes that ca either keep readers fanning themselves. While the sex scenes are graphic she is also creating a connection between the two characters that will push the story forward. Readers can skip the sex and still feel the connection between the characters.

The mystery is interesting and most readers will see it coming but if they do not there are enough men and woman the readers will be able to pick apart to figure out who is the killer.

At times the story is over the top but readers who love April Hunt will love this new series she has created. If you are new to April Hunt once again I think you will love this new series as well.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of April Hunt Deadly Obsession

My first time reading this author and I can’t read her next book in this series. Friends to lovers story, a serial killer, suspense, and sex. I could not stop reading this book. It will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Zoey has had several heart surgeries and after her last one, she has decided you can’t stay in a bubble world forever. Instead of working in the lab she becomes a CSI agent. Her first case she runs into Knox, her brother’s best friend and the guy she had a crush on. Knox was an Army Ranger but has been back home to DC in two years. He is just staying long enough to help het his brothers security company up and running and then he’s off to California. But first he wants to help catch the killer who is killing women that resemble Zoey. When Zoey goes missing, Knox will do anything to get her back.
Two people, one who believes he can’t put his problems on his family and the other who just wants people to see her as strong instead of fragile. Wish they’d given a little more background on the General but maybe in Cade’s book it will.
It was sort of easy to figure out who the killer was,

If you're looking for a novel that breaks stereotypical romance tropes, this isn't it. However, if you're looking for romance with a touch of suspense, this book is a solid choice.

Deadly Obsession covers well-loved romance tropes and it does it well. There aren't too many surprises as far as the plot goes, but the characters have distinct and interesting voices. Zoey, in particular, has a health issue that I've not seen used in a romance before, and it plays an interesting role in the plot.

Zoey's heart condition and latest surgery has spurred her to live life on her terms; this means getting out of the lab and into the field. Her first case is intense and her brother disapprove of her involvement in a serial killer case. Her brother's best friend Knox is back in town and still sees Zoey as a kid - but she's determined to prove herself at work and to her brother and Knox.

Deadly Obsession sets the stage for the series and introduces secondary characters that I, for one, can't wait to read about.

Zoey Wright has a heart condition which has put her on the sidelines for most of her life, after yet another operation she is determined to live life to the full and exchanges her job as a CSI agent in the lab for one in the field. Her first job is the latest victim of the serial killer the town is dubbing the Beltway Cupid Killer. Watching from the shadows is old family friend Knox Steele, a former ranger and Zoey's older brother Cade's best friend. Knox has always had a soft spot for Zoey but when he tries to lay down the law and she rips him a new one he starts to see her not as his friend's kid sister but as a smart, feisty and beautiful woman. Knox doesn't plan on sticking around long, his tour overseas ended badly and he bears the weight of the world on his shoulders.

This was a mildly suspenseful, easy to read, predictable romance. I'm afraid despite April Hunt's attempts to create multiple suspects I called the identity of the killer on page 124 (of 341). There were some good moments, like when Zoey called Knox a "watered-down man-baby" but I wouldn't put this in the same class as, say, Scarlett Cole or Laura Griffin. Also, in romancelandia why does no-one ever have a normal name like John (i'd accept Jon) or Pete, is it a prerequisite for special forces that they have a name like Roman or Knox?

If you don't enjoy grisly scenes in your suspense, want more romance and less thriller, with tons of alpha males from the different services all with their own secret pain then this is for you.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Deadly obsession is the start of a new series, the Steele Ops. I really enjoy this type of action/romantic thriller trope. I did enjoy this book and will be interested to read the next in the series.

This is the start of a new series from April Hunt. It follows Zoey and Knox who have known each other for forever because Knox is BFFs with Zoey's brother. It was a good action romance where all the men are either cops and or military, and of course they are all super hot :) Though I do wonder how the cop gets away with bringing in all of these civilians into a murder investigation. Even though there is a string of murders, I wouldn't consider this suspenseful since I guess the killer fairly early on.

I have to say though, I am getting a little tired of the super protective brothers/groups of men who can't reign in their alphaness. I feel like I've read it a lot lately. They spoke about Zoey like she was a child, even though she could handle her own. There's a difference between loving someone and wanting to protect them and condescending behaviors.

It looks like there will be more to come on this series and I will give them a try.

This is a great start to a new series that promises to be fantastic. In this book, a family of brothers are starting a high level security/ops agency, however, one of the brothers, Knox, doesn't want to commit.....to anything. Zoey, a talented crime scene scientist and heart patient, has been smitten with Knox for years, but Knox hasn't been interested.

While the city is dealing with a serial killer, Zoey is pushing herself hard at work despite having cardiac symptoms - that she seems to resemble the killer's target victim only adds to the tension. In the midst of this, she takes a chance with Knox, but the lines quickly become blurred.

There's a lot going on in this novel as the author sets the stage for the series. While it sounds a bit confusing, the author presents it in an engaging way that makes sense and is entertaining.

I loved the characters, from the somewhat damaged Knox to the lovely Zoey with serious health problems. It's not possible to read this book and not fall a bit in love with them.

Fans of the genre will love this book. I'm already looking forward to future books in the series. The author is on my must read authors' list.

There’s always a special excitement I have when there’s the new start of a series particularly in the sub-genres of romance that I look for. April Hunt’s new Steele Ops series was one I plunged into because, well, new year, new series, new start.

Sort of.

Combining the brother’s-best-friend trope with a typical serial-killer storyline, ‘Deadly Obsession’ is very much an establishing book that sets the context for the series. And thus far, I did like the cocooned bonds and the closeness between the characters and Hunt’s decision to write a somewhat different heroine—whose illness is something that gives her cause to rise above her circumstances again and again—is quite remarkable.

There were no surprises here, where characters or plot were concerned at least: Zoey being in the line of fire, Knox’s non-committal stance towards the will-they-won’t-they relationship, his denseness that needed a huge awakening in the form of mortal danger to Zoey to dissipate, the ‘sex-only’ agreement that you just know will fail. They’re well-worn tropes really, but April Hunt’s engaging writing carried the story and I did, by and large, have a good and easy time making my way through the suspense—even guessed who the perp was well in advance.

There’s much talk about seizing life by the horns especially when faced with one’s mortality nonetheless: Zoey did come across as desperate and overcompensating for having missed out on so much at times, just as Knox’s indecisive mixed signals grated along with the reminders about how he didn’t stick with women at all.

By and large though, I did have an easy time reading this and did find the story quite engaging despite the well-trodden issues in romance that authors do like to take up. Hunt’s writing has a certain kind of clarity here that I can appreciate and there’s enough development of the secondary characters whose coming stories (no doubt) I would like to follow up on.
