I just finished The Summer House by @jhaleauthor and I loved it! I love when a book draws me in right away. The Summer House is the story of two long time friends, Callie and Olivia, who take on the task of remodeling a beach house in the Outer Banks. Along the way Callie meets Luke Sullivan, local hottie and rich playboy. But she discovers he’s so much more. I enjoyed all the pieces to this story. I loved the friendship between Callie and Olivia, hearing about their remodeling work, and of course the romance!! This book ended up having much more to it than I was expecting. If you are looking for a cute, fun summer read with heart check this one out.

What a sweet, summer time romance!
This adorable rated PG Hallmark movie style story is about Callie. She is looking to start over in life. She and her friend Olivia purchase a beach front B&B to rennovate and reopen in a resort spot.
Local celeb and hunk Luke comes in like a storm and throws off Callie's plan. He is sweet, down to earth, and is nothing like the papers say. He likes Callie's spirit, and the fact that she wants nothing from him. She just wants to spend time getting to know him.
In this story we deal with varying family dynamics and secrets. These 2 individuals go slow with their relationship, and fight against it for different reasons.
I adore Jenny Hale's writing. This is such a sweet, heartfelt story. I highly suggest picking it up!

I always told myself that I seriously needed to get going on reading some of Jenny Hale’s summer-oriented books. She does such an amazing job of describing winter/Christmas scenes that I just should have known how well she could paint a summery scene as well. I could perfectly picture the town of Waves and the beach houses there, including The Beachcomber (soon-to-be Bed and Breakfast).

The main character, Callie, and her best friend Olivia (along with her son Wyatt), always dreamed about buying the property when they were kids and finally are able to do it now, so they move to the small town and begin remodeling. Callie meets the local rich “playboy,” Luke, and is swept off her feet. The story had a similar setup to many Jenny Hale holiday books, where the love interest is rich and fancy. These books are so easy to read and just fulfills that little “what if some rich guy falls in love with me” fantasy that everyone has thought about at some point. This story had a couple more serious elements, as alluded to in the synopsis, but it was generally a light summer read. I wish I had the chance to actually read this on the beach, because it’s the perfect read for laying out in the sun. I absolutely need to get moving on Hale’s summer backlist because it makes me so happy to know that I can now have TWO of her books to look forward to each year, highlighting my favorite seasons of reading.

It was a great summery beachy read. Very atmospheric. This was the first book I have read from Jenny Hale and I will probably seek more of them out because it was a quick and entertaining read. I loved the friendship aspects and the way the whole story unfolded. Just good all the way around.

The Summer House by @jhaleauthor is a perfect beach read that had me regretting that I was reading this book on my couch and in my car instead of on a beach somewhere🏖 This is a sweet/low level steaminess romance that really focuses on the importance of family and trust. Thank you to @readforeverpub and @grandcentralpub for sending me this free copy for review purposes 🥰

In the book Callie and her best friend Olivia have bought a house in the Outerbanks that they have always dreamed of one day running together as a bed and breakfast. Together they are working around the clock to renovate the house and have every perfect by opening day. In the process they find a diary and a lock box hidden by the previous owners that begin to have more and more meaning as the two women become more of a part of the beach community and develop relationships with certain residents. One of those residents being a local heartthrob and millionaire heir Luke Sullivan. Callie has a hard time trusting someone with such a public bad boy image, but what she sees in real life doesn’t add up with what the magazines and papers like to print. It comes down to can they trust each other with the truth and let themselves fall in love.

.

This is a perfect combination of women’s fiction and a very low steam level romance. I enjoyed the story and the little mystery tied in. This is a very beachy read and will definitely get you in the mood for summer vacation.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love sweet books and The Summer House ranks right up with the best of them. It has a simply lovely story coupled with just enough tension and great characters.
Great for summer reading.

Olivia and Callie are best friends who finally took the plunge and bought a beach house to open up a bed and breakfast. At the moment they are renovating and can use all the help they can get if they want to open up soon. But soon enough distractions start to take place when a box and diary from the previous owner is found and local playboy Luke seems to have his eyes on Callie.

This book took me a bit of time to finish but I think it was just me and not that this book was slow. I did enjoy reading this book getting to see the diary entries as the girls read them, seeing things get pieced together and seeing what they were going to do with the information that they had. I've always had a fascination of reading others diaries that I would've loved to be in the girls place. I loved getting to know the characters and seeing a bit of romance between Luke and Callie. Overall this was a pretty good book I really enjoyed it.

The idea of buying a beach cottage and renovating it all summer has always appealed to me: Painting the deck rails white, power washing the cedar shingles, planting hydrangea, gutting the tiny kitchen and installing beachy-chic cupboards. How great would it be to paint the walls sea beeeze blue, shop for the right outdoor pillows at HomeGoods and commission a beach scene mural? The great thing about The Summer House is you get to have all the fun of a beach cottage reno… without all the work… and with a handsome guy taking you to lunch all the time… and finding an old diary… and a wonderful artist who just needed to reacquaint himself with his muse.

See, we might not get all that in real life – not in one summer anyway, but Callie and Olivia do. They share their summer with us, beach cottage, romance, family secrets, happily ever afters, and all.
NetGalley provided an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. Also - at about 40% in this book sounded familiar. At about 50% i knew it was. I read to 60% before checking goodreads and finding out that i read and reviewed this very book in 2017. :)

You know when you’re on the verge of a reading slump? Sometimes I look for shows to watch, other times I’ll switch genres. When I looked for another genre to read, I immediately gravitated towards Jenny Hale’s The Summer House. I love Hale’s stories for the light reads, but especially for the stories of love and friendship.

The Summer House is a story that I would recommend to anyone looking for a weekend read. About to go on vacation? Take this. Have a free day from your responsibilities? Start this.

Callie and her best friend, Olivia, are renovating a bed and breakfast in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Callie has spent her childhood summers in the Outer Banks, and regardless of her own family life, she created her own with Olivia’s. I love Callie. She is all the best parts of me, and all of the bad. My self doubt and heartache? I’ve read through Callie’s story. My hopes and dreams? I’ve read through Callie.

Okay, let’s talk about Luke. Luke and I weren’t instant friends in the beginning. I was worried that he was going to be the wrong fit for Callie. See, I was invested in her well being, and I needed to see someone perfect for her. But, I should know better and just trust Hale. Why? Because in the end, I was filled with swoony feelings and heart eyes.

But the best part of this romance? I loved the slow burn between Callie and Luke. There was a lot of apprehension, and in such a realistic way. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a quick and steam read, but a natural progression of this relationship? LOVED.

And now? I’m looking forward to Olivia’s story!

Callie and Olivia, longtime friends who share a sisterly bond, decide to purchase a house to renovate into a bed and breakfast in North Carolina's Outer Banks. When Callie meets misunderstood millionaire Luke Sullivan, she gets a bit distracted from the DIY projects at hand and becomes focused on her growing romantic connection to the local celebrity. A background mystery story line involving a diary ties the ending together with a neat bow.

Thoughts: This book contains just about everything I love in a light summer read (beach! bed and breakfast! best friends! hot guy! romance!), but I never felt compelled to pick it up when I wasn't reading it. I wish I could pinpoint where the book missed the mark for me, but it is more a general feeling about the book's entirety. I feel many readers will enjoy this one, but for me it was just okay.

This was an adorable, fun summer read that will be perfect for reading on the beach this summer. The characters are likeable, and easy to connect with and the romance is exciting and sweet at the same time. I loved the Outer Banks settings and the renovations on the beach house were fun to read about. There was also a little mystery and some family drama that added intrigue to the plot. Overall I really enjoyed this book and think most people will also enjoy this fun beachy read!

Want to take a beach vacation without leaving home? Pick up this book! Callie and Olivia have dreamed about owning a b&b at the beach since they were little girls visiting Olivia’s grandmother at her house in the Outer Banks.

That dream is finally coming true. They are doing the work themselves to fix it up and get it ready to open. Callie runs out to pick up lunch one day and ends up crossing paths with local celebrity/playboy Luke Sullivan. She’s determined not to be distracted from the house - she doesn’t have time for dating, especially with someone who is usually seen in tabloid magazines with models and actresses.

While in the process of renovating, Callie and Olivia come across an old diary and lockbox hidden in the house. The secrets revealed can have a big impact.

My family has vacationed in the Outer Banks almost every year since I was a kid - so as soon as I saw this took place there, I was sold. I loved spending a few hours there with Callie and Olivia and Luke - a fun, light, summery read!!

Thank you so much to Forever Publishing and Netgalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first book by Ms. Hale and I will say I was not disappointed. What a fun read. I loved the friendship between Callie and Olivia, they had this unbreakable bond that no matter what one faced they were there for each other. I hope to read Olivia's story some time soon. My heart broke a little for Callie she had faced so much and was afraid to love again, but she had this independent ready to kick butt if necessary. I really liked how this has a twist in the book that I didn't see coming and that this book was a good clean read. I think the only thing I missed was I wished that both Luke and Callie had parts in the book I would have loved to read more about Luke and his thoughts as the story was going on since he was such a big part of the book. Overall I don't feel like his story wasn't necessarily told but I wish there was more from him if that makes sense. Over all I found it hard to put this book down it was very heartwarming and captivating. You really can't go wrong with this fun love story.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Forever Publishing for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This was a cute, summer read. Honestly, I had a difficult time getting into the book at first, but once I did, I couldn’t stop reading! I found this book very predictable but it was still a good story, including unexpected romance, lifelong friendship, family disagreements, and a little bit of home improvements for those who love HGTV. This book was very PG compared to other romance books I’ve read lately and it was a nice change of pace. While I felt like the story at time felt rushed, I loved the honesty and understanding between Callie and Luke. “His gaze swallowed her in a way that made her feel like she was the only person on the planet”. Has anyone ever been looked at like that before?! I think that’s when you know you’ve found your person.

Callie and her best friend Olivia are looking for a new start in an old place. They’ve purchased a North Carolina beach home that they’ve admired since childhood and are fixing it up. When they’ve finished renovating it, their new B&B should be ready for guests.
The next door neighbor is the rich, handsome Luke, who also happens to be a bit of a playboy. Despite the fact that Callie has little time or energy for a relationship, she finds herself drawn to her enticing neighbor.
When Callie and Olivia unearth a locked and long-forgotten diary that’s filled with town secrets, what they find out might just destroy Callie’s chances at happiness. And before the summer is over, a brewing storm will strike (literally and figuratively!).
The Summer House has all the elements of a perfect summer romance: ocean air, sunny skies, handsome neighbors, and secret pasts. The descriptions are vivid and the essence of summer is palpable as you read. They electricity between Callie and Luke is strong. There are some character development issues that felt left out, but it didn’t interfere with my ability to get lost in the story. The Summer House is a sweet, heartwarming summer read.

After purchasing a beach house. Callie and Olivia are throwing themselves into renovating and redecorating, hoping to open by late summer to catch the end of summer and early fall tourists. Naturally romance comes into play, but not exactly in the way you expect,. When a hurricane lands almost at their front door, every plan and long-held secrets is blown to smithereens. Excellent beach read..
