The Light From the Dark Side of the Moon is a fascinating story of a world war II veterans history, loves and delusions. Its an interesting plot in which 92 year old Henry makes his way to France for the ceremonies of the 70th observance of D-Day to address the grief of lost love. My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. #TheLightFromTheDarkSideOfTheMoon |
I received this from Netgalley.com for a review. 92-year-old Henry Budge defies most of his family by escaping a rehab hospital to make his way to France for the ceremonies of the 70th observance of D-Day. Quick read. A romantic (and not always believable) remembrance of love found and lost during the war. 2.75☆ |

An intriguing fictional study of a man's history, driving forces, loves, delusions. Compellingly written and threaded with haunting themes. |
The Light from the Dark Side of the Moon tells the story of Henry Budge a 92 year old, war veteran from America. Henry has never gotten over the death of his war time love Elodie. The story switches from the past to present day, as Henry tries to finally make peace with his past. I enjoyed the plot of the story and the characters of Henry and Elodie. However I found as the story went on, it became less believable and very easy to predict how the story would end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC. |
Emotional ~ Historic ~ Consistent tl; dr: Old WWII vet still feels the horrors of war I almost didn't give feedback on this book. This is a book people will love. It is well-written and takes a different angle at WWII. There are love and plenty of sadness. There is even a dog. The main character is well-drawn. So, why was I going to avoid reviewing this one? Well, I feel a little done with WWII. The story is interesting enough and very well-written. But, the material felt familiar. I think I am just over WWII. So, if you don't have my bias, you will love this book. Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
