I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I couldn’t be happier to report that I loved it! Just enough twists, mystery, and intrigue to keep me up all night anxious to see the conclusion. I am anxious for the publication date so everyone can get a chance to read this gem!

The premise of this storyline "Some people just need killing" was the hook line and sinker that made me hit that request button.

Unfortunately, this was a disappointment for me. I found it so difficult to like the main character! She was calculating. This books tries to be a sexy and hot version of a triangle of women rooting to kill the husband Mr. Durst.

The sex scenes in here are just pretty awful and not sexy AT ALL. The scenes are just plain let's have sex with zero buildup. Yikes... no thank you!

All of the relationships in the book seemed very forced and not natural at all. I felt like this was a bit of a train wreck in all honesty. This was not a worthy suspense/revenge tail!

It's also a slow burn and sadly just doesn't deliver at all.

Overall, 2 stars

Thank you to Netgalley and Midnight Ink for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I flew through this book. It is the ultimate, true description of a narcissist. Marlena thought she had all the information figured out. She studied him before she made her move. I don't believe you can ever do enough research on a narcissistic person! She was brave and though she thought she had all the answers and was sure gutsy she stilled questioned herself in the midst of her plan. That made her human to me. Like 'OH MY what have I gotten myself into"? I could just feel the determination it was taking her to put up with him and the drive to get to the end.

The characters were well developed and I like it that you got to know them, they weren't just thrown in there. This is the best book I've read in a while. Probably because it is spot on even though his actions were a little over the top.

At first I thought I was reading a B.A. Paris story line, kind of a shades of Behind Closed Doors, but the author took this deeper, much deeper into the life of Marlena who is living with the ultimate narcissistic sociopath. He controls her every moment, every minutia of her life with sadistic pleasure. As the reader, I did not want to put the book down because I wanted and needed to know what would happen on the next page. I found myself gripped in the tale and alternated between fear for Marlena and her life and cheering her on to take back her life. and escape his evil. I did not see the twisted ending coming and let's just say it did not disappoint. Do not start this book before going to bed unless you wish to have a sleepless evening.

After JANE DOE I was primed to love this revenge story, nor was I disappointed. Learning elements of Marlena’s plan at the end wasn’t quite as satisfying as watching Jane’s plan from an inside seat, and the real life elements that come with both the name “Marlena” and “Durst” add another layer of sadness (as none of those women got a happy ending). The ending seemed a bit fast, but that’s easy to forgive for how much I love, love, love Marlena’s ride into the sunset.

Wow. What a book. I could not stop reading this once I started. A thrilling tale of a third wife. She’s not what she seems. She makes it very clear. She’s just as calculated as the man she’s married to. She’s persistent, organized and extremely clever.

I also really enjoyed the writing style. The quick pace kept me intrigued. It wasn’t bogged down with too many details. It had just enough to hook you but not too much that the story got lost. The characters were interesting. They were written quite beautifully. They all had traits that were good and bad, much like people in real life. Sure they had seedy pasta but you felt for them. They came together to create a top knotch team.

One last thing. The Third Mrs. Durst has it all. A sexy, quick paced thriller. I could see this quickly becoming a movie or TV series. No doubt it my mind. Just saying: you heard it here first! A solid 4/5 stars for this reader!

"Some people just need killing. And maybe I’m one of them. My husband certainly thinks so,"

Great start, but completely broadcasted the entire book. There were a couple twist at the end, but by then I just didn't care. All characters were unlikeable and difficult to hope for or celebrate the outcome.

Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review.

This book is creepy. Not in the ‘go to sleep with the light on’ creepy but in the ‘how well do we really know someone’ creepy.

This story follows Marlena who comes from a difficult background but ends up becoming a model. She gets swept off her feet by the handsome and wealthy, Michael Durst and basically quits her life so she can make a new one with her husband. Nothing is as it seems and the fairytale ends as soon as they are married. Mr. Durst is VERY controlling. His character was written so well, as was the writing, that I felt like I was his wife. The marriage quickly becomes a cat and mouse type game, and only one can survive. Will Marlena end up like the first Mrs. Durst or the second Mrs. Durst? Will Michael get what he deserves? You’ll just have to read it and see.

This was a solid 4 star read for me up until about 75%. The last 25% dragged for me and I really thought the ending could have been better.

Thank you to Midnight Ink and NetGalley for sending me an early reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review!

I was given the opportunity to read this book for a honest review!
I was pulled in from the very beginning.

Some people just need killing

Michael Durst is a bad man, he was married before Marlena. To others it seems like a storybook marriage the perfect couple but not everything is what meets the eye.

This was a whirlwind story that kept me hungry for more. Maybe a first from this author as well but I am sure it won’t be my last! Looking forward to other books by Ann Auguire.

4 stars. Thanks for he opportunity to read this early. Coming to book stores near you August 8, 2019. Preorder now, you won’t be disappointed!

The Third Mrs. Durst is a pretty fast-paced story about Marlena. When the book starts, she is dirt poor and her only hope for her future is to catch the eye of a man who is known to make things happen for girls like her. I honestly thought this was going to veer into a story about sex trafficking so I’m glad it didn’t. Marlena gets her teeth fixed and starts booking modeling jobs. Soon, she is rich and famous enough to attract Mr. Durst. He’s a rich and powerful man and soon after he and Marlena get married, she sees how controlling and abusive he is.

Yes, she lives in a fancy apartment and shops at expensive places and lives a life of pure luxury but behind closed doors, she is suffering at the hands of a monster.

So she seeks revenge.

Here’s the synopsis:

Marlena Altizer Durst lives in her husband’s shadow. He controls her every move—what she wears, the food she eats, and the friends she’s allowed to make. If she disobeys, there are… consequences. And he has all the power, so nobody would believe her.

Her Cinderella story has been well-documented and it seems that she leads a fairy-tale life. But nobody ever wonders if Cinderella was happy after she married the prince. Marlena has traded freedom and safety for luxurious imprisonment, and most days, that seems like a bad bargain. Death may be the only exit she’s allowed. Just like his first wife. And his second.

Due out August 8

I am very happy there will not be a fourth Mrs. Durst. I wanted to like this novel, but as I continued to read, the narrative became muddied. So many scenes jumped out at me as preposterous and far fetched. The characters were entirely unlikeable.....I couldn’t conjure any affinity to the main character nor could I feel any sympathy for her. Thank you Netgalley and Midnight Ink for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Every once in awhile I like to read something then my standard feelgood romance read.
I picked this one because I loved the blurb and I was intrigued.

Protagonist from this book is Marlena from Nowhere, Kentucky and we follow her from age 16 to mid 20's. She comes from poor upbringings and at first I think that is the why she left home at age 16. Same old tale I don't want to stay here and become my mother. But later on I learned that is only part of her story and certainly not the main reason.

You see Marlena is on the road of vengeance.

"Some people just need killing".

She is real and palpable and you don't have to relate to understand and feel her struggles.

I don't want to give to much away but basically she get discovered as model, makes somewhat of a success and marries this older guy who is not what he seems. He is controlling and abusive among other things.

What to do to get out the hell she in?
What about her family and friends?
Who can you trust?

After all she told lies and her husband doesn't like them. And he changed her name and background.
Can a nameless abused woman save herself from monster she married?

All valid and interesting question that we get to unravel trough the book.

Also the main thing is that I never really gave up on Marlena, if is anything that you learn is that never underestimate a woman who lost so much and been trough so much.
She will find a way.

It was very quick read and once you start reading you just have to finish it.
Overall enjoyment of the read is in a fact are a reader who loves this kind of thriller, real and life surviving tale. If you are I'm sure you will enjoy this book.

More then anything I loved the reminder that not everything and everyone is a it seems. Be careful whom you envy!

What I would say is bad with this book, well nothing and everything really. Just my personal feeling of when reading a book I like to feel something more. I am missing some meant on the bones of this story. But that is my subjective feel, but bear in mind I am novice in this genre and still I would give this book solid 3,5 stars.

This book was okay. So-so. The main character wasn't all that likeable. I felt for her, understood her pain. But she was just not someone you'd want as a friend for instance. Her older husband was basically a monster, so his seeing a bad end was rewarding.

I liked this book more than I thought I would. I finished it late last night. I think the characters raised the bar on this one. I really liked Marlena and Jenny and Vin and, even Joanna.
The storyline starts off a little slow with the backstory. The plot picks up in the middle and then the climax comes a little too quickly. I think that section needs to be drawn out a little more, but there's definitely a good plotline to work with and the characters aren't one-dimensional.

I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. I WAS HOOKED FROM THE FIRST PAGE. The writing is so well done, I didn't want to miss a word.

Not a fan...characters held no interest for me and were very unlikeable as well as unbelievable. The story itself could have been good but it felt like huge parts of it we're missing and the ending was really just stupid.

Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of #TheThirdMrsDurst

Unfortunately, this narrative was a struggle to get through. The story line was scattered and the character development felt disproportionate to the plot. It felt dark and depraved but not in that good thriller kind of way. This title would be better marketed under the erotica genre as nothing about it rang true to the mystery or thriller genre. 1 star.

"Some people just need killing"

Wow! After a bit of a slow start I soon got hooked on the life of Marlena, a poor country girl who sets off to create a better life for herself, and starts a relationship with the incredibly rich and powerful businessman Michael Durst. However it soon transpires that there is more than meets the eye to both these characters, and Marlena's new fairytale life becomes a fight for survival.

The story takes some dark turns as the full extent of both characters true selves are revealed, and it becomes chilling to see the lengths Marlena's willing to go in order to get her revenge. I found it hard to warm to her character as she is so manipulative, but it was refreshing to see a strong, calculating female protagonist. I'd recommend this book to anyone wanting a dark, twisted story of revenge.

Marlena escapes her poverty stricken family at 15 and strikes out on her own, determined to turn her life around. She meets the enigmatic Michael Durst, who remakes her into the woman he wants by his side and as his wife. A twisted, darker My Fair Lady if you will.

Marlena is however the third Mrs Durst, what happened to the first two? She knew what she was getting into but did she realise Michael's capacity for possessiveness and his compulsive need for perfection? Which one of them will survive this relationship intact?

I read this book in one evening,The Third Mrs Durst was intriguing and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was also surprised to see, upon investigating the author, that this is not even her usual genre. It was a refreshing change to read a novel that followed a chronological timeline and one POV. An absorbing suspenseful thriller with some tricks up it's sleeve.

Many thanks to #Netgalley and #MidnightInk for the advanced copy of #TheThirdMrsDurst in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, thriller indeed! I was eager to read The Third Mrs. Durst hoping it was similar to The Last Mrs. Parrish. They started off with similar feel, but Mrs. Durst quickly became much, much darker. I could hardly put this book down once I started, and I'm eager to try other titles by Ann Aguirre.

Thank you to Midnight Ink and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
