I got an advance copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. I found it very difficult to Iike the protagonist. She was mercenary and calculating. I actually hoped her husband might succeed in killing her before falling in love with someone less awful. As bad guys go, he was pretty awesome. It's too bad the heroine was so unappealing.

This tries to be an edgy, sexier version of The Wife Between Us and fails. The back story is basic, and the characters fall flat, with the exception of Michael. The only description that rings true in the whole book is one of an old bathroom. (I really could picture that bathroom.)

The relationships feel forced, except the one with Vin, which she begins solely for her own benefit and he is cut right after they sleep together. The sex scenes are stilted and about as sexy as eating a very bland sandwich. The other relationship is with her best friend who she sleeps with one night with absolutely no build up or prior attraction. There are no straying hands, no touching accidentally/on purpose. Nope, they just bang, but once again, no detail. It's like getting on one of those trains that take you nowhere and with less scenery.

Also, the author adds things in that never happened or at least weren't mentioned at the time they happened. Her childhood in Kentucky is touched on briefly, but later in the book the fact that she was raped as a child was mentioned as if the reader should have already known. It's jarring and spoils the rhythm. The whole book is like that, from the weird disclosure of the rape, to the awkward lesbian sex that was less interesting than discovering that one is out toilet paper at a bad time.

I was disappointed and I had such high hopes.

The Third Mrs. Durst is a twisted tale about a small town woman who ends up in over her head. Marlena grew up with nothing before breaking into modeling and meeting her future husband, the infamous Mr. Durst. Outside of the public appearances and newspaper photos, there are many secrets between this seemingly perfect couple. I finished this book in one day because I could not put it down. If you enjoy a book that keeps you guessing until the end, I highly recommend this book.

Marlena came from very tough roots. Poor, with no father and a mother on drugs, Marlena took care of her siblings, as best as she could. At 16, she packed it in and tried her luck in Nashville. A man, Del Morton, was supposed to be there who could help her and her best friend, Jenny, 14 years old, get work. He actually did help them out. After prepping and primping and taking odd jobs to supplement their modeling careers, Marlena meets Michael Durst by chance. Del accompanies Marlena to Germany where she gets a break modeling lingerie in part due to a good word put in for her from Michael Durst. Jenny stays in Nashville.

Marlena wants to improve on her abilities and plans to quit the lingerie modeling, obtain her GED and go to University. At that time, Michael Durst reenters the picture. Marlena and Michael date. He pays her way through a university degree and proposes to Marlena just after her graduation. After signing a very tight pre-nup, Marlena marries Michael in Ibiza.

The ink is barely dry on the marriage license when Marlena finds out what a controlling jerk she married. She has a plan. He is quite wealthy and she puts up with his forced isolation, Croation learning and etiquette lessons.
She doesn't see Michael very often as he is often on business in Europe - they had moved to New York.
Marlena begins to rely on her bodyguard/overseer Vin, for company. She also learns that Michael has been married twice before. One wife died in a car accident - the other - suicide. Marlena's paranoia hits new heights.

Michael continues to treat Marlena increasingly harsher. However, Michael does provide her with an art gallery (to launder money through?). At Michael's request, Marlena befriends the uber-wealthy Joann Van Houten - first at Michael's request. But Joann has Michael's "number". Marlena and Joanna become real friends and bond over the gallery.

The remainder of the book will have you on pins and needles! So MUCH that you don't see coming!
This is a wonderful, suspenseful read (I had to read in one day!) HIGHLY recommend!!!

Many Thanks to Midnight Ink and NetGalley for a twisty suspense thriller that does not disappoint!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was fast paced, suspenseful and kept my attention all the way until the end. The ultimate tale of revenge, Marlena a poor girl gets swept away by a rich older man. After becoming Mrs Durst, she realizes she is the third and soon realized that things are not as fairy tale perfect as she imagines. I don't want give a lot away as the less you know before reading the better.

Thank you Netgalley and Midnight Ink Books for the Advance Reader Copy in exchange for my honest review. This book releases in August 2019, get it and read it when it comes out!

Country, backwoods beauty from the hills of Kentucky hits the big time! Or does she? Marlena, very young gets out of her addicted Mothers cabin in the holler; leaving the "youngers"! Sounds like a truly bad Country song! She sets out to marry an older, rich man; both are as bad as the other! He has killed his first two wives, she knows this, marries him, in order to kill him, of course, she wants his money, and revenge! Disgustingly, it ends up with the threesome, her female best friend, she they were both young; and sleeping on the streets in Nashville. The third in this menage a Trois, is her bodyguard, that her loving husband had to watch over her; in case she did something, like smile at another man! I consider this to be paperback trash! There is not one redeemable person in the book! I need to take a shower!
Thank you Netgalley!
I do not recommend!

Suppose you grew up dirt poor with a drug addict mother. You are abused. Your life is awful .... then you meet a wealthy man, and it seems like a fairytale is within your grasp.... only to find out it's really a nightmare. What would you do? The Third Mrs. Durst will keep you on the edge of your seat. I gasped more than once while reading this gripping book. Marlena's story will have you up till the wee hours reading, it's that difficult to put down.
Ann Aguirre has written an explosive tale that should be a Lifetime movie!!
It is that fantastic!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me this copy to review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Midnight Ink for an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. The cover of this book drew me in. It sounds like a fairy tale to be noticed by a rich, older man who will take care of everything in your life. But, there's a fine line that can go toward darkness and control. I don't know that I liked a single character in this book. Everyone has secrets and it's like a chess game seeing who will win out in the end. This would be a low 4, mainly because some of the plot seemed a bit of a reach. But, who knows? There might be people out there who live exactly like this.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this new book by Ann Aguirre that will be released on 8/8/19. The best way to describe this book is pure domestic evil. I read the book quickly and the ending was worth it. Marlena is the third Mrs. Durst and vows not to end up like the first and second Mrs. Durst. This book reminded me of Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris, another one I also enjoyed.

‘Some people just need killing’. Wow 😮 This book was phenomenal. An absolutely cracking tale of revenge. I feel this review has to be a little ambiguous as I really don’t want to give anything away. There was so many twists and turns that I recommend going in to this one blind. Full of suspense and thrills. This book is the perfect thriller! The ending was amazing too. I highly highly highly recommend this book 💕xx

Could not put this book down!!! More twists and turns than a roller coaster! Have never read this author before but will definitely be reading her next book! Heart still pounding from the ending. Roller coaster of emotions regarding characters as well! Can’t wait to hear other people’s thoughts on several main characters - can’t say much else without spoilers!!!

Mr. Durst is a bastard. Think an older Christian Grey without any redeeming qualities. But his third wife is set to put him to rights, even if it kills her. Because being married to Mr. Durst has that effect on women. And so driven by all the wrong motivations they enter a state of matrimony and thus begins a thoroughly messed up marriage of mutually assured destruction as an active intent. But really this is a revenge story, a tale of a backwoods girl who uses her gorgeous looks to get revenge. But really this is completely preposterous. It seems like yet another one of those women driven suspense thrillers, but it’s so over the top, so tacky and so very cheesy that it’s really in a class of its own. Essentially if a suspense thriller had a threesome with Fifty Shades and a trashy paperback romance this would be their bastard baby. And funny I should mention threesome, because that’s exactly how the book ends, with a freaking threesome and even the soundtrack suggested. There are so many clichés, so many cardboard cutouts of characters and so much hyperbolic action…that you just gotta laugh. I mean, it isn’t just cheesy, it’s super cheesy, the Kindle was practically oozing cheddar by the time I was incredulously reading the unintentionally hilarious final chapter, but you got to give the author credit…she chose cheese and committed to it. In fact, in cheese this was…American, cambozola, camembert, brie and then some sort of poisonous cheese. Yeah, I just described a novel in cheese. Yey, me. But seriously, Ann Aquirre’s bio says she has written 42 books. Her Wikipedia page lists her age as 48. Do the math and you realize you can’t possibly expect any sort of quality with that level of output. What you can expect is readability and this was very readable. Even entertaining. But entertainment of a low order, the crappy tv show or stupid youtuve clip you might find yourself watching against your best judgement. The book’s protagonist is white trash that gets glitzed up, because money rules the world and all that and the book is kind of the same…which is to say highly superficial curb appeal. It isn’t a classy psychological suspense thriller you’ve been waiting for, it’s its trashy slutty sister. So you know…options. Very quick read too. Cheap fun and inadvertently funny at the same time. Thanks Netgalley.

"The Third Mrs. Durst" is about Marlene, a girl who escaped poverty, became a model, and married Michael Durst, an extremely wealthy, yet controlling man. After having to deal with an unbelievably controlled existence, Marlene decides to take action and take revenge against her husband for the pain he has caused her and his previous two wives.

This book was really interesting, and the ending was really tied together nicely. However, there were some things that weren't fully explained. If those things had been more fleshed out and explained, such as Jenny and the Deb situation, it would've been even better.

In order to truly love a book I need to connect with the heroine or hero. Sadly, I connected with neither in this book. In its essence I think this book was about choices. The choices the heroine made from the very beginning where she ran away from home and then everything she after that, in addition to getting Micheal Durst as a husband, were choices she made with her eyes- apparently- wide open. And I have to admit, I didn't care for any of the choices she made.
The pacing seemed off to me at times, too A lot of quick story in the beginning chapters and then the laborious read through of all the chapters and abuse she suffered at her husband's hand in the middle. While this book wasn't for me, I can see where many would like it.
Thanks to Netgalley for an arc for an honest opinion about the work. Sadly, it just didn't work for me on many levels,

I would not say this book was entirely bad, but I don’t think I could say it was good

This book was a riveting tale of revenge at it's finest. Once I read the synopsis I was sucked completely in. This is my first read by Ann Aquirre and she did not disappoint. I don't even know where to begin on how to review this! It will be vague because there are some twists and turns and shocking revelations that you will not see coming. Marlena was badass. The things she had to endure and put up with because of Michael will have you on the edge of your seat. He was a grade A a**hole. There was so many times that I wanted to throw my ereader with his antics. I had to keep reading though to see how Marlena was gonna hand his a** to him. The ending was phenomenal and then that epilogue just made it that much more so. I can't wait to read more titles by Ann.

I love Ann Aguirre’s Enclave series, so I was super excited to see her new adult thriller. Though I was able to put it down, I always came back to it and I am glad I did. I liked the general plot, and the twist at the end was great.

Very enjoyable book. Kept me guessing and then nice surprise at the end. A little weird to have the main character sleeping with best friend and body guard but oh well. I liked it and it kept my attention until the end.
