I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Experiments that can be created in the backyard. Great for elementary kids. Could be used for homeschool or just for fun. Lost of great sidebar facts.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy for review. The experiments are too far ranging from activities for really young kids to much older kids. Many activities are just impractical for students to use without adult supervision or needing materials that are not often on hand.

I think this would be a great book for science teachers to get ideas on how to use the outdoors for student engagement. Another way the book could be used is with parents and their kids during summer break to keep school skills sharp. I would recommend this for upper elementary age, otherwise many of the experiments would need to be adjusted. Photographs and directions are clear and helpful.

Hack Your Backyard has a few fun experiments for elementary school kids to learn about outdoor science. The photos are colorful and descriptive, and the sidebar facts are very interesting. The title is likely to catch the attention of young people. 32 pages seems too short to me, since the real readers of this would be parents and teachers, most likely.
