“Mama? Help me.” Those are among the most terrifying words a parent can hear, but for a 911 operator picking up a call, they are nearly the worst. Former cop Laurie is able to locate her confused, injured daughter, Jojo, but her safe return isn’t the end of the nightmare, but rather the beginning. As Laurie digs deeper into what Jojo and her supposedly estranged friend, Harper, were involved in, she learns hard truths about those she once considered her closest friends. Even her own husband.

R. H. Herron couples her professional knowledge as a former 911 operator with excellent storytelling to create this gripping suspense novel. Laurie is incredibly tough, but still vulnerable and relatable. Like her mother, Jojo is vulnerable under her facade, and together, the two relentlessly fight to uncover the truth, even as they realize the knowledge may hurt them.

Below the surface of the riveting suspense novel is some timely social commentary. #NetGalley #StolenThings

I received an ARC of this book on NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion of this book. This was a very action packed book that kept me glued to the story. I very much enjoyed this book and would read other books by R.H. Herron based on this book. Just an all around good suspense novel.

Although slightly predictable, I was still engrossed with the execution of this thrilling novel. Mystery and Thriller junkies will love the ride.

This novel is all about corruption in the police department and the repercussions for everyone. Jojo is the daughter of the chief of police and the main character, the one who is the victim of a terrible crime at the beginning of the book. Her mom Louise is a police dispatcher and her best friend Harper is from a wealthy family. That basically sets the scene for a book that is full of twists and surprises and lots of action. There is also a famous football player involved as well as over half of the police department. The book was a good, fast-paced read that entertained and tried to inform. The ending came rather abruptly, with everything all tied up in a neat bow, but it wasn’t very satisfactory to me. The author seemed to want to deal with all kinds of social issues in the book and instead of dealing with one thoroughly, none were adequately dealt with. I enjoyed the book and recommend it to those who like suspense, with the caveat that the violence, language and sexual content may be offensive to some.

Laurie is an ex- cop who is now a dispatcher and is settling in for another routine night when she answers a call that turns out to be her daughter saying - “ Mom, help me”.
Her daughter has woken up with no memory of where she is or what happened. Laurie’s husband, Omid is the chief of police and both race to find their 16 year old daughter in the home of an older pro- football player known for his political views more than his football and a dead body in the next room.
At the hospital it is confirmed that Jojo has been raped and her best friend Harper is missing.

As other reviewers have stated, this book touches on a number of subjects that are in today’s headlines- sexual assault, police brutality, racism, and others. The two main characters Laurie and Jojo are intended to be strong female leads and the author does portray that imperfectly. There is a tendency for Laurie to think how things would be done more quickly or better if her husband was there and on one hand she is an protective mother who wants to be there for her daughter and the next she runs out leaving Jojo on her own.

The book started out ok but I had a hard time staying interested. There are parts that are repetitive but all the elements for a good story are there so I can’t put my finger on why this one didn’t click for me.

The author was a police dispatcher for 17 years and though this is the first book I have read by her she has written more than two dozen.
Thank you to #netgalley and #duttonbooks for the advance copy in exchange for my opinion.

Wow! Stolen Things was a wild ride, but one that I didn’t want to end! Although far from perfect Laurie and JoJo were strong female leads that didn’t need to be rescued. I hope most police departments aren’t this broken, but it was really interesting to learn about it from the side of an officer/member of the dispatch team. I can’t wait to read more by R. H Herron!
My review will be up on my Instagram between August 18th-20th.

In Stolen Things, there is a lot going on. A young girl, possibly assaulted. Another, missing. And in between all of this are the police (and various others) who are trying to solve the case.

This book made me uncomfortable. But only in the way that a real book, evoking this feeling, could. I was angry, upset, trigger. But at times hopeful and relieved. There are few books, in my opinion, that can make a reader feel so much in less than 500 pages.

It was a wonderful read and I enjoyed this book thoroughly.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. This book did contain lots of suspense and action but it contained a lot of views on current events that a lot of readers will not like. Rape of a minor, strong views about police corruption and about how the police treat certain races, and sex between minors. This is a dark mystery but I would have enjoyed it so much more if certain parts had not been included. I will have to be careful about which customers that I can recommend this book too.

This book is a wonderful mystery/thriller mix! Laurie is at work as a 911 dispatcher when she receives that is her daughter Jojo and she is in trouble. Next is a roller coaster ride that makes an unputdownable book!!! I loved the relationship between Jojo and Laurie. Their relationship is real and shows their love for each other as mom and teenage daughter. Laurie will do anything and everything to help her daughter. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.

This book started really great, but at about the 50% mark it really just got to be too far fetched for me.

I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what can i say this was a gripping story of a mother's love for her daughter. I read this book in a matter of 3 or 4 hours once I got started I couldn't put it down. There are so many different elements happening in this book, that you were kept on your toes waiting to see what would happen next. Suspense/thrillers are one of my favorite genres, this was a new author for me but I definitely will read more by them. I wish at times the scoring could be a little different I would have given this book a 4.5/5 stars.

So, let me start out by saying I read A LOT of psychological thrillers and suspense novels. It's my favorite genre what can I say? :)

Stolen Things definitely starts out with a bang with that action. Let me tell you! You're definitely kept on your toes from the start.

There is a lot going on in this novel. The author brings up a lot of sensitive topics... murder, rape, police brutality, race issues, and class.

I feel like the story dragged on to much in my opinion after the initial beginning. It was fantastic that is started off at a bang but then it just stopped being interesting.

I also felt that the author's beliefs towards the major topics as mentioned above were laid on a tad bit thick for me. I can handle a lot going on in a novel but I don't particularly like to read a book where you can DEFINITElY see the author's beliefs on the issues that are being discussed.

Overall, 3 stars.

Thank you to Dutton and Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

A fast paced novel about decisions, secrets and love. This is an emotional book that grabs you by the heart strings and pulls you through the pages. Think cheetah on a mission. Sympathizing with almost every character is easy to do because we’re given enough emotional perspective from each. The author confronts racism, sexism, sexuality, politics, varying family dynamics and so much more. I was hooked in the first sentence and quickly reeled in.

"A sensational crime, a missing teen, and a mother and daughter with no one to trust but themselves come together in this shocking debut thriller by R. H. Herron."

This was a great debut novel from R.H.Herron and had me trying to piece all the clues together throughout the whole read. The plot had several twists and turns that kept me on my toes. A few places were fairly predictable but didn't deter from the overall storyline. I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next!

As a parent, I can't even imagine something happening to my child. This book really brings that home and makes you question how far you would go to uncover the truth of what happened to your child. Stolen Things really grabs you and doesn't let go!

This book was a pretty slow burn for me. It started out really great in the beginning, me at the edge of my seat while reading but as I read on it just got veeeeeery slow and could not hold my attention. I though about just stopping but made myself finish and by the end it was very meh for me. Overall great start to a book but it wasn’t really for me.

3/5 stars.

This was a fast paced thriller that kept me interested throughout its entirety. The story took off almost immediately and I found it difficult to put this book down. I appreciated the current political issues that were discussed without taking away from the compelling storyline. My only complaint is that I found the ending to be a bit too far fetched and disturbing for me. There was a decent amount of disturbing subject matter throughout the whole book and that was to be expected in such a thriller but I just felt that the ending took it a little too far. Overall I enjoyed this book and would give it three stars.

I could barely put this book down. I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. If I could give this book 4.75 stars I would. I loved how relevant this story was to the world we live in currently. This is a well written page turner of a thriller and I highly recommend it.

Thank you Netgalley and R.H. Herron for an eARC for my honest review.

This was a wonderful book. I am glad i got the opportunity to read it and i'm sure it will not disappoint. It grabbed my attention right from the start and held it all the way to the end. A page turner for sure! Many twists and turns and it keeps you guessing. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing more from this author.

From the beginning I was hooked and could not put the book down! This story is about a mother who is a dispatcher and one of her 911 calls is from her teenage daughter needing help. It turns out her teenage daughter is hurt and is not sure where she is or how she got there. This book is a classic mystery/thriller trying to find out what happened with major twists and turns at the end. This novel also weaves in current topics such as police brutality, race, rape, and sexuality. The only critique I had was that I wish there was a little more character development in terms of the other police in the department, because at times it got a little confusing who was who. All in all great book with a great plot twist at the end!
