I love a friends-to-lovers story, but this one was one of my favorites. The main characters, Addie and Tucker, are part of a group of close friend of which Addie is the only female. The group dynamic was fantastic as they all saw Addie as "one of the guys" but were also quite protective of her. When the group realizes that feelings are changing between 2 members of their group, it affects all of them. In addition to seeing the romance develop between Addie and Tucker, I loved seeing the bond among the group members and how they dealt with the issues that developed throughout the story. Other secondary characters also added interest beyond the usual romance. Watching Addie and Lexie develop their friendship was enjoyable. Addie was unsure she could be friends with a "girlie-girl" since all her friends were males. Seeing the initial discomfort change into a fun friendship was entertaining. And one of my favorite characters - Addie's grandmother. She added much humor to the book. The small town, overly involved characters also added a special charm to the story. Overall, I truly enjoyed this first installment in Getting Hitched in Dixie. I look forward to seeing the others in this group of friends find their happily ever afters. |
Addie is just one of the guys in her tight knit of friends from childhood. She beats them at football, takes their money playing poker, and punches them instead of talking. Typical lifelong tomboy stuff. That is, everything is typical until her friend Tucker sees her legs sticking out from under a car hood and realizes she's more than just his friend. I enjoyed their chemistry, the awkwardness of friends to lovers, the sneaking around behind their friends, and I really loved their funny southern small town. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. |
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review." Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend! |
Just One of the Groomsmen was such a great read! I enjoyed Addie's character as well as the guy friends! The story moved along well and the few twists were believable and entertaining. So happy that Addie and Tucker wound up together and I could totally see a book number 2 come out of this one - I liked the characters and the town so much! |
Tomboy. Check! Friends to more romance. Check. This was a good read for me. I like these kind of stories. I will read more |

I received a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. just one of the groomsmen was enjoyable for the most part but the trope of woman who does get how beautiful she is and the men who can't recognize her beauty got old fast. the tension was so weak that is didn't feel entirely sustained throughout the book. not a deep meaningful book but entertaining. 3.5 stars. |
I had a really hard time getting through this book, and almost DNF'd it several times - and I don't know why!! I got really annoyed at the repeated use of the phrase "crossing lines" - it's seriously in there way too many times and there's got to be some other ways of saying this. I'm not even sure what it means? It wasn't used in a way that was like "this is the friendship line and we are crossing over it," but almost like in fishing type of way where your lines get crossed and have the potential to get all tangled up? Ugh, I dunno. Also, I get that they're southerners, but the way the dialogue was done was really annoying to me and way too heavy handed getting across their dialect. All that aside, Just One of the Groomsmen is a cute book with a fun concept. I love Addie's "boys," and her Nonna is that great crazy older lady character I love. I really like the way her relationship with Shep's fiance, Lexi, develops. There are a lot of really great elements here, but heavy handed use of dialect and the phrase "crossed lines" just pushed me into "let this book freakin' END already" territory, which is unfortunate. |

This is a delightful, small town, best friends to lovers romance, written in a charming and humorous voice and the first in a new series. Quirky and eclectic characters that populate the town add to the wonderful characters and provide amusement. Tomboy, Addison (Addie) Murphy Murphy) had grown up with her gang, Tucker Crawford, Will Shepherd (Shep), Easton and Ford in the small town of Uncertainty, Alabama, but her best friend had always been Tucker. They have all grown up, but only Tucker left, to become a lawyer in Birmingham, as his father had drummed into him after his parents divorced, that he needed a high paying job, to keep the wolves at bay. But Tucker hated the city. For two years he had no life and rarely was able to come home. He missed his friends, his town, but most of all Addie. When he finally does make it back for a weekend, Shep reveals at their weekly poker game that he is getting married and ALL his friends, including Addie will be his groomsmen. Soon, Tucker is back for good, trying out a few ideas, how to make a living. Addie is a PT, but hates her boss. Easton is a policeman and Ford, search & rescue. When Tucker comes back home, he starts to see Addie differently and Addie is drawn to him too. But they are both afraid to mess up their friendship, to reveal their feelings and communicate, as they had done in the past, almost destroying their relationship when they both put the needs to put the other's best interest first, causing heartbreaking misunderstandings. Fortunately, they have friends to straighten them out. I received a free ARC from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review. |
First of all, I have to confess that this was only the second book I've read from Cindi (*hangs head ashamed* I know, totally missing out). I fell madly in love with Addison and Tucker's story. They are absolutely perfect for each other, and their friendship is something so freaking beautiful!!! I laughed so hard with Addison! She's amazing, and I think everyone should have someone like her as a BFF. Tucked stole my heart (and I don't want it back), and I really wanted to hug him and never let him go. I need more books with these two and their crazy awesome friend! |
I’ve always wanted to pick up a Cindi Madsen book, and I’m kicking myself for not reading any until now. Just One of the Groomsmen was such a fun friends-to-lovers romance. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series. I also will definitely be checking out her other books. If you’re looking for a fun romantic comedy, Just One of the Groomsmen by Cindi Madsen will be perfect. It’s a story about two best friends navigating a potential romantic relationship, their best friend’s wedding, a move back home, and a job hunt all in a small town where neighbors always seem to be in everyone’s business. I did think the plot started a bit slow, but it ended up being a fun, light-hearted romance. It had the quirkiness of small-town living and the drama of having a best friend of the opposite sex. It definitely had its laugh-out-loud moments. What I loved most about Just One of the Groomsmen were the characters. Addie and Tucker were endearing. I loved them right away both as best friends and as a couple. However, their entire group of friends truly made it fun. The other guys definitely added drama to the debate of should they or should they not cross that line from friends to something more. The potential romantic relationship between Addie and Tucker definitely endangered their group dynamic. I can’t wait to see where Cindi Madsen goes next with this series. I’d love to see a cameo by Addie and Tucker. I’d also love to hear more about the rest of the guys. If you’re looking for a light beach read this summer, I highly recommend Just One of the Groomsmen by Cindi Madsen. |
Favorite Quotes: The thing about this particular group of ladies was the way they could lob implications and casually insult you, their sugary-sweet smiles never leaving their lips. You know, sometimes I think it’s sad that no matter how much makeup people put on, it doesn’t make their soul any prettier. Then again, it’s always nice to spot those people right away. About as subtle as a gorilla wearing high heels in a bowling alley. “I’d recommend a thong, too, to avoid panty lines.” Right. Because what was missing from this whole experience was a tiny strip of fabric riding up her ass. That way, when she inevitably tripped on her heels, she could expose her bottom half to the entire wedding party. Hey, maybe then the townsfolk and her friends would acknowledge she was a girl! Her sexual experience was best summed up as few and far between, and even the during was nothing to brag about. If you think what we’ve been doing is convenient, you need a vocabulary lesson. If great-Nonna Cavalli rolled over in her grave as much as Nonna Lucia claimed, the groundskeeper at the cemetery would’ve called in those hot brothers from Supernatural by now. My Review: My first experience reading and comedic words of Cindi Madsen and I picked an excellent starting point, although now I want to go backward in time and read every book she has ever put out. And, oh my, she has put out quite a long list already, where have I been? I adored this effervescent group of friends and envied their tight bonds and respect for each other. The large cast of characters was well delineated, highly endearing, and cleverly amusing as they often engaged in flinging zingers and whip-smart banter. The storylines were fresh and entertaining and sparkled with wit and irreverent levity as well as quirky small-town observations and eccentricities. It is always a good day when I can add a new favorite to the top of my list of authors to stalk. |
4 stars Just One of the Groomsmen by Cindi Madsen is a sweet, fun and entertaining friends to lovers read. I enjoyed the storyline, I enjoyed the friendships and I enjoyed watching Addison/Addie and Tucker relationship unfold. They have great banter, great chemistry and a loved watching them acknowledge their feelings and giving their hearts to each other. Overall, Just One of the Groomsmen is a lovely start to the Getting Hitched in Dixie series and I'm looking forward to reading more. *Thank you to the publisher via Netgalley for the advance copy.* |
I've read other books from Ms. Cindi Madsen but this one is by far my favorite. It's not something I haven't read before... the friends to lovers trope is my second fave storyline... Both Addison and Tucker were relatable... as well as the supporting cast. It's light and sweet and funny and it will definitely give you butterflies in your tummy. For the fans of Lauren Blakely, Whitney G and JD Hawkins, this is the book to pick up next! |
I loved this book and could not put it down. In fact, I wasn't too busy at work and read some of it there (but don't tell my boss!). This small town in Alabama has a group of friends, 4 guys and 1 girl, that bonded and became the best of friends. Now one of them is getting married and it has brought back one friend to share in the celebration. Tucker doesn't know what hits him when he sees Addie's legs sticking out from under a car. All of a sudden, she is more than just one of the guys. The same holds true for Addie, something happens when she sees Tucker again and she tries to fight it but is losing that battle pretty quickly. This book moves along very quickly and I loved the interactions between all of the friends and then between Addie and Lexi (Shep's fiancee) especially when Lexi asks Addie's help in planning the wedding. Ummm, Addie has no idea about some of those but because Shep is one of her best friends, she will do whatever it takes to help out. The story is not without its ups and downs, misunderstandings, and crazy antics from all of the characters. It does show us that true friendship will go to any length to keep that sacred. This is one of my favorite books this year and major props to the author for only including a couple of f* bombs. |

As usual, I enjoyed this story by Cindi Madsen. Friends to lovers is a trope right up my alley and this on didn't disappoint. Mostly. I loved Addie and Tucker but I did feel like there was a lot of filler in this book. There was so much detail and much of it didn't move the story forward that I found myself skipping pages just to get to the action. Addie and Tucker were kind of immature but in a fun way, especially when the rest of the crew was together and everyone reverted back to kids. I LOVED their friendship and loyalty and the small side plot with Addie and Lexi forming their own friendship. Just One of the Groomsmen was a fun romance that--mostly--pulled me in and kept me there until the very end. As much as I enjoyed the romance, I might have fallen for the group of friends even harder. |
I really enjoyed this book a lot. I love a good friends to lovers story. Addie is not the stereotypical woman. She's her own woman who happens to be best friends with four guys. You can easily see how close this group of friends is. People think that Addie is odd the way she acts and how not girly she is. That's what I loved about her so much she's conformable being herself and who wouldn't want to have group of friends that have your back no questions asked? People are now looking at her strangely because she's going to be a one f the groomsmen for her friend's wedding. The characters in this one drew me right into the book. I laughed quite often while reading this book. I really loved Addie and Tucker's special bond and you can really feel it once he moves back. Tucker is realizing all that he has missed while he was away and Addie being a main one. It's not going to be easy for these two because their putting their long time friendship plus their group of friends on the line. As I was reading this one I kept thinking I hope the other guys are going to get books too. This is a town I would love to keep on revisiting. |
Addie grew up surrounded by boys and always considered herself as one of them, after they all had the same tastes and affinities, but her relationship with Tucker has always been strong. Where one was the other was together, always united in the biggest confusions and jokes, but two years ago he moved to work in a law firm. Thanks to a meeting organized by one of their best friends, Addie and Tucker meet again but this time something is definitely different, both will dive into the preparations for a wedding and will eventually realize that what they have for each other is much more than only a friendship. I love Cindi Madsen's funny writing and Just One of the Groomsmen, she introduced me to a delightful romantic comedy filled with hilarious moments and mega moments of sighing. Seeing how Tucker and Addie discover their feelings, their inner strength, their vocations, and how to face their friends for what they love was wonderful. I was really in need of such a book after reading a very tense and strong drama and this book came as a balm warming my heart. I loved the cover and everything that surrounds this dress ..... 5/5 stars. |
I really enjoyed this friends to more story! I loved the tomboy Addie and her 4 buddies! Things start changing when one of the four is getting married. If you love a good friendship, teasing with good humor story this is one for you! Cindi Madsen has another winner on her hands with this book. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my open and honest review. |

I found this book to be a delightful, relaxing read. Addie has always been “just one of the guys”. They’ve had a close knit group since high school. Tucker is the only one of the group that has left town for the city for his career as a lawyer. Shep is the first of the group to find love and get married. He asks Addie to be one of his groomsmen, although his fiancée wants her dressed the same as the bridesmaids. Addie is trying to fit in with the girls, but it’s difficult for her with her tomboy style. Tucker first sees her in a dress and is quite attracted to her. Unfortunately he doesn’t realize it’s Addie because her head is under a car. They are attracted to each other, but are afraid to ruin their friendship and the dynamic of their close group. There’s a lot of interference from friends and family, particularly her hilarious Nonna! Also reviewed at B&N and Kobo under the name IrishEyes430 |
Addison had been just one of the guys for a long time and now one of her best friend, Shep is getting married naturally being a grooms (wo)man. Tucker is one of the guys in this group and he's been a away for awhile and now back and here to even stay. Thing is he never expected was to be attracted to the women whose legs was sticking out under the hood of the car and come to find that its his good buddy Addison. Addison and Tucker know things can get complicated should they pursue into a relationship, they are in a small town that loves to gossip, there is loads to do with helping their best friends wedding, and things can turn sour if things go bad then what will happen to their group? This is my favorite type of love stories so naturally I loved it. I love a good friends to lover friendships, I loved that it wasn't insta lovey. They knew eachother for a long while so it was sweet to see their relationship and watch as it begins to heat up. There was so much riding on the issue if things ever happen between the two and things dont work out it could not only impact them but the group of best friends and the town might even pick sides. Naturally they'd want to keep things secrets till things are sure. I liked seeing the romance between the two and there was plenty of funny moments and mishaps. This was just such a cute book I really enjoyed it. |
