I enjoyed reading this story it had me entwine deeply in its mysterious and thrilling pages, it is well crafted, exciting and makes an entertaining read. It’s an engrossing tense one indeed, and absolutely captivating with its intrigue and many twist and turns. Agent Kelly is very meticulous and serious, she zones your attention to every detail, making you feel as if you are walking the field of the investigations with her. With the killer now focusing his sight on her family, things got heated real fast. It is a well crafted exciting, intriguing and very entertaining,

This was just ok for me. It’s funny because the story is full of so much detail and dialogue yet It didn’t carry over to flesh out the characters.

The premise was interesting and the chapters from the killer’s perspective were good. I wish we were offered more of those! There is a bit of suspense and some twists but I did figure this one out before the conclusion. If I didn’t read so many thrillers I prob would have been entertained more by this. Pls give it a shot as it may be right for you.

What a thrill of a ride!! Lots of twists and turns.
I really enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend. If you love psychological thrillers then pick this book up. You will not be disappointed.

This book was so painfully generic. I feel like I've read this book a dozen times before, different place, different names, same storyline.

A few homicide cases are tied together, could it be the workings of a serial killer?? FBI Detective and Profiler Kelly is on the case! She's a woman so obviously her male peers are going to assume she has an axe to grind (which she sorta does). They're also either being assholes or flirting with her, all the while treating her like a moron because, hey, she's a woman, OBVIOUSLY. She also has a history of past trauma and abuse. What's more, the cases she goes to work on happen to be in her hometown where her estranged family lives, where she was abused, wow! Yadda yadda yadda (so much smalltalk and boring police chat, SO MUCH!) and whoa, the killer ends up being...SPOILERS INCOMING...an egotistical narcissist with psychopathic tendencies, super into psychology of course, who happened to be the husband of one of the victims. So why did he kill her, you ask?! Because he suspected her of cheating on him. Oh and she was also pregnant with their child. But why did he kill all the others??, you might implore. He targeted women who were adored by their husbands. So the killer of all these women and children just ended up being a controlling and abusive man who believes he is so above it all, women (and by extension, their children) are his property to do as he wishes because his fragile little ego can't take being subpar, imagined or not (definitely not imagined). I mean, we can't get any more generic than that.

I was really bored with this one, it wasn't unique, it wasn't exciting. The MC goes through minimal character development as well, basically ending up back where she started. This really just wasn't the book for me, sorry.

This has everything needed to be a successful thriller! If you’re looking for something to really dive deep into this is for you. On the other hand, if you don’t have time to really concentrate and don’t have the time to dive into this in one sitting then you can miss something. Excellent thriller though.

3.25 Hearts So I am on the fence a bit on this novel. The psychological thriller side is interesting and kept me interested. The problem was the characters. I never really connected with any of them even the heroine, Kelly Roth. I found her strong and smart but any more of her personality was unexplained.

This is a heavy book, if you ask me. This is not a light read but one that makes you think about the human mind of the victim and the killer.

I was pretty sure I knew who it was a number of times but was still interested in how the mind works of the characters and the author.

Enjoyable and a fun read!

The story caught my eye from the moment I read the blurb, and I just knew I wanted to read this book. I was not let down and can recommend this to everyone!

Tis is the second book of TJ’s I have read and I am loving them. The one thing that draws my attention is that it is set in New York, which adds a whole new level and excitement.

This book follows an FBI profiler as she investigates the murders of women by a serial killer.

I really liked the fact that Kelly is new to the job so we learn things as she does especially to do with the way procedures are and we get to learn about Kelly’s back story throughout the book.

I really liked the character of Kelly and the way she worked made the story fly, so much so that I got to the end before I realised and hadn’t even tried to work anything out in advance.

Overall this is another great book by TJ, which I really enjoyed and can’t wait to read more by him

I liked this. It reminded me of an ep of Criminal Minds. The story was good and I was actually surprised over who the killer was. It’s wonderful to read a book that isn’t predictable. I liked the writing and will definitely buy some of the authors other books

The Husbands by T.J. Brearton was an excellent book. The characters were believable, the accuracy of the location spot-on, and the level of suspense engaging. It's his best book so far, and hopefully not the last featuring these characters!

I loved the concept of this book, unfortunately, I kept imagining different twists or paths the story could have taken and was disappointed with the way it actually played out.
The Husbands is a hardcore Police Procedural, meaning the author delves so deeply into aspects of crime solving that the book has an extreme technicality to it. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and definitely appeals to a certain audience. It just wasn't well suited for me.
Additionally, the book is made up primarily of dialogue which hints at development issues and had the greatest effect on characterization. Layering character and behavioral traits through actions and less through how they describe themselves or retell their stories would have brought more balance to the novel.
I can't say I know much about law enforcement but this book indicates that TJ Brearton definitely knows his stuff. I hope the attention to detail is an accurate portrayal as this is the strongest leg the book has to stand on. Serious Police Procedural fans will devour this book!

The Park Killer isn’t satisfied with killing the women, he want to destroy the entire family, so he begins to bait the husbands via text messages and phone calls.

While the idea behind the novel is very interesting, the pacing is very slow. I wish more effort had been put into character development and developing the killer than explaining ballistics.

A roller-coaster of a book, eventually, following a serial killer who murders women and then challenges their husbands. Kelly Roth is an FBI profiler sent to assist in the investigation and, of course, has her own damaged past. Why does everyone have to be damaged? She works with a variety of police departments, some supportive, some less so. There are good descriptions of the locale and characters but I wasn't completely convinced by Kelly I'm afraid. As for the minute details of guns? Nope. Too much and not adding anything to the story that a few succinct sentences wouldn't cover. The book does get better in the second half when the pace picks up and the characters develop to a degree. It just about gets a 4* because I'm feeling generous today. A little of everything...mystery, suspense, and action. I couldn't put it down. If this startling new trill ride doesn't have you turning pages at breakneck speed, then you're not paying attention. Rich characters, crackling dialogue, and a climactic sequence that is stunning, enervating, and innovative all at once.

A good thriller with lots of twists and turns. Enjoyable read. I liked Kelly as a character and would probably read more stories with her in them.

Well, this one was a different genre for me but being a lover of Criminal minds I was hooked once I saw the protagonist was a FBI profiler so pleased I gave it a shot.

More of a thriller than a mystery, the plot moved along quickly and victims and suspects piled up.

Never read this author before but will keep my eye out for another one!

The Husbands was a good thriller and I guessed the wrong killer. The writing style is a bit heavy to pour though because it gets very wordy.

I didn't really enjoy this that much. It was boring and suffered from detail overload. I was just glad to get to the end.

The Husbands, written by T.J. Brearton, is a tense suspense novel regarding a serial killer who kills women (and sometimes their children) only to torture the husbands afterward by taunting them via text and phone calls. Sometimes I found the pace unbearably slow (mostly the first third of the book), only to see that it picked up and had my attention again. There are twisty plots and layers of plots... The Husbands definitely has layers and layers. My advice is to stick with it through the beginning because it goes deeper and deeper into the secrets behind the characters, including FBI Profiler Kelly Roth. The action in the last half of the book makes up for the slower pace in the beginning and the writing gets tighter as the plot progresses!!!
