This was a cleverly crafted novel, but one that I found myself having trouble connecting with the characters throughout. It could be that they felt too cookie cutter in dialogue and action, or it could be the fact that I felt I've already read a story similar to this one many times before. I do think readers who are looking to branch into the mystery/thriller genre may find this title more enjoyable than I did, and highly encourage those folks to check this one out for themselves.

A teen pageant queen is found murdered in a small New England town, and her sister searches for answers in places where the police didn’t question.

This is Amy Green’s debut novel, and it did not disappoint! While I did not love the ending, the entire book was suspenseful and had me changing my guess for “Who-Dun-It” MULTIPLE times. This book was a definite page-turner, and I am very much looking forward to Amy Green’s next book. The Prized Girl was truly a heartbreaking story infused with some dark humor to break up some of the disturbing scenes. I would recommend this book to any fans of thriller/mystery/suspense novels.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was told alternating chapters between 2 sisters, whose relationship was not close at all. This book is full of suspense and surprises.. I thought that I had things figured out, But I was very wrong. I would recommend this book to anyone and I hope to be able to read more from this author

The Prized Girl circles around the unsolved rape and murder of Jenny, a thirteen-year-old beauty queen. (Immediately bringing to mind the still unsolved Ramsey case.) Much like the real world case, Jenny had fans across the pageant circuit. Police hone in on one in particular -- a developmentally challenged man with an inappropriate fascination with the young beauty queen. Her half-sister, Virginia doesn't think he had anything to do with it.

Virginia uses her blossoming romance with Detective Colsen to worm her way into the details of the case. Now twenty-six, estranged from her family, and saddled with secrets, Virginia is all over the place. Focusing on her sister's death keeps her from having to face her own inner turmoil.

Told from each sister's POV gives the reader a more in-depth insight and a better understanding of Jenny and Vrginia as individuals. The subject matter is tedious and littered with inappropriate relationships. Green's characters and plot devices are a bit too cliche' -- giving me the feeling of 'oh, I have been here before.'

This is the author's debut and I am anxiously awaiting her next release. That is how excited I was about her writing and her ability to tell a suspenseful tale. It was fast moving, which is one of my favorite kind of books, and I was not able to guess the ending by a mile. This follows the story of a murdered teenage pageant queen and all the stunning revelations and secrets that led up to her murder.

The Prized Girl is a fantastic thriller that has a couple twists to keep you flipping the pages. One dead sister and a half sister trying to figure out the killer. Good writing and interesting characters.

This is a very hard read because of the subject matter but I did enjoy it nevertheless.
It’s told in two perspectives by two sisters, one is dead and one is trying to find out what happened to her dead sister. It’s hauntingly sad and a thriller that will keep you on the edge until the very very end.
Thank you very much to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy of my ARC.

As someone who loves mysteries and a good unreliable narrator, this one just didn't do it for me. While I did not mind Jenny as a character...I really found myself disliking Virginia and by the end of the novel, she really hadn't done much to win me over. The writing of this book was good, but the story just wasn't for me. I'd be interested to see what Amy K. Green does in the future, however.

The Prized Girl is the first book by Amy Green.
This book was so exciting and mesmerizing that I can’t wait for her next book.
It is the story of a beauty queen who is found murdered in a small New England town.
Her sister undertakes the search for the killer, and on the way, she discovers that there is a myriad number of suspects.
Virginia is still living in the town in which she grew up in, and her early years were very troubled.
This is the story about a complicated family and its secrets.
The ending will knock you for a loop.

So I read about 15% of this, but then the story just didn't hold my attention and I set it aside. The writing style was acceptable, but the characters just didn't hold my interest; perhaps they were too stereotyped.

The Prized Girl by Amy K. Green is a great thriller with plenty of mystery! It was easy to follow the characters and plot while at a steady, decent pace. Alternating characters/chapters make this a fun one! Definitely recommend it!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Releases 2020, detailed review to come!

This is a debut novel you need to read!!! The Prized Girl is a suspense filled thriller that immediately draws you in and I promise you won’t be able to put it down until the very last page!

The Prized Girl centers around two half-sisters—the younger sister (Jenny) who is violently murdered and the older sister (Virginia) who makes it her business to get to the bottom of what exactly happened that led to that unthinkable and horrific event!

I loved when a mystery/thriller is methodically mapped out to creat the maximum amount of shock! Throughout The Prized Girl I found myself surprised by the well planned twists and turns—love that!! Being that this is Amy K. Green’s debut, I am putting her on my radar and I’m already looking forward to diving into her next book!

After young beauty queen Jenny is murdered, the whole town is devastated. As her friends and family try to cope with their loss, police zero in on an obsessed fan they believe killed her. Everyone seems relieved the killer has been caught, but Jenny’s half sister Virginia isn’t so sure. She begins to investigate and learns that the seemingly safe small town she lives in has a very dark side, as did Jenny. Told in both Jenny and Virginia’s voices this is a compelling look at small town life

When a girl teen girl is murdered in a small town, her sister starts to investigate and solve the crime.

The author uses dual narrative, alternating between the weeks leading up to the murder, told by Jenny, the victim, to current day narrative by her sister Virginia,

This book has twists and turns up until the end of the story that I didn't see coming. I lost the connection with the story several times, not sure if it was because of the switch between past and present or just the content of the story line. But I did enjoy this debut novel from the author and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense/mystery books.
