Dr Erika Sheraton has Darren an intern . Erika is a young general surgeon. She works at Alaska general hospital. She can't keep a boyfriend or intern for long . She constantly analyzes herself. She is forced into vacation by her father. I wasn't hooked.

I really, really love Alaska, so I was excited when I found this Christmas romance set in Wild River! This was very fun book, but I would have been happier if it had been more festive and Christmassy.

The synopsis has done a really good job explaining what the book is about. You’ve got workaholic Erika, who has to take a forced vacation by the order of her boss (aka her dad). She heads to Alaska to stay with her old best friend, Cassie, who owns a tour company. And then you’ve got Cassie’s brother, Reed, who Erika has always had the hots for. He works for a search and rescue crew. Cassie and Erika haven’t been close in years, so things are a bit awkward at first as they figure each other out again. Obviously, they have both changed. And Reed definitely notices the changes in Erika.

I always enjoy friends to lovers and dating the best friend’s sibling tropes, and this book gives us a bit of both. Cassie goes off on a tour with a group for a few days, leaving Erika at home to go stir crazy. She gets out and starts hanging with Reed… goes on a few rescues… gets to know the locals. It’s fun. I like the town of Wild River and the people that live there. This book was a strong set-up for the series, and I know I would have liked it more if I hadn’t gone into it expecting an explosion of Christmas decorations and festive merriment. You could really read this at any time during the year, which isn’t a bad thing by any means, but was a bit of a disappointment for me. An Alaskan Christmas was actually a lot deeper and more heavy than I was expecting when I looked and the beautiful cover. I was picturing steamy Hallmark, but this was more of a drama than a romance for me. Everyone is working through a lot of stuff, and Erika is reanalyzing her life. I honestly can’t remember much Christmas or even many swoons. I really liked Erika and Reed together, but I didn’t have any strong feelings for them as individuals. They were not very memorable, personality-wise. I enjoyed the search and rescue tidbits, which were exciting and interesting.

All in all, this was fun! I was expecting something different, but it doesn’t mean that what I got was bad. I’m interested in continuing on with the series to see who gets their own romance next. Maybe Cassie? Or one of the search and rescue team? Both would be fun. :)

(This review will be on my blog this December as part of my Bookish Little Christmas event. I did highlight it as part of my 2019 Christmas TBR, though.)

If you’re looking for the perfect holiday book that has romance, all things winter, look no further! This book was so cute! I wouldn’t say it was a very Christmasy book, but it was definitely a great winter read!

Erika has to take a mandatory vacation, and decides to visit one of her best friends, that she hasn’t seen or talked to in awhile. While in Alaska, Erika is reunited with Reed, Cassie’s brother. Right from the start, these two don’t see life the same way. Reed thinks she’s annoying and spoiled.

While on this trip, Erika and Reed end up spending a lot of time together. Erika decides to join him on his search and rescue missions, because she’s a doctor and feels she can help. Things start to change between the two of them. Erika starts to see there’s more to life than just a great job.

This book was the classic enemies to lovers trope. I found this book to be the perfect winter romance. I was hooked right from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down. I had to know what would happen next. I highly suggest this one for your next winter read!

Dr. Erika Sheraton is a workaholic surgeon in metropolitan Anchorage, at the same hospital where her father is the surgical department chair. She has put in countless hours as a clinician in order to prove herself to her father, and work on a research project to test a new anti-rejection drug for organ recipients. Her own mother had died when Erika was a young girl–due to a failed kidney transplant. This life-long mission is interrupted when her father suspends her privileges at the hospital for a mandatory vacation–since she hasn’t had one in years.

At loose ends, Erika returns to her small hometown of Wild River, to reconnect with her childhood best friend, Cassie. It’s awkward, mostly because Erika has arrived with barely two weeks until Christmas and the few hotels in town are book up–and Erika’s now imposing on Cassie to sleep on her couch. Not one to stay still long, Erika’s soon finagling her way into Search and Rescue missions with Cassie’s brother Reed, who has surely grown up. As part of this team, Erika makes some medical situations way easier, earning the gratitude of her father’s old boss at the community hospital.

Her attraction to Reed is inconvenient–now that Erika has time off she has time to reflect on happier days in Wild River and lament all the things she routinely gave up for a career she’s not convinced she wants any longer. Not now that her father’s pulling power plays and possibly removing her from the drug study. Reed is the emotional rock she remembers, only taller, more muscled, and sexier. It isn’t long before these two are burning up the sheets and each other. But life in the arctic wild is dangerous and soon Erika’s surgical expertise is necessary for Reed’s survival.

I’ll be honest, there were a LOT of issues in this book that didn’t make sense to me–because they fell short of the realism I enjoy in my contemporary romances. In previous careers I ran medical studies and have decades of working experience within the American medical system. So, Erika’s experiences in the hospital felt like gross exaggerations which pulled me from the story. Likewise, her assertions of power on Search and Rescue seemed farfetched and unrealistic. The romance between Erika and Reed felt rushed, and the environmental challenges of an Alaskan winter seemed conveniently mild to allow for situations that would foster the romance. In the end, Erika needs to make a choice between her previously self-sacrificing career and some level of work-life balance in a new position. She makes the only realistic choice, though it seemed a bit of a false choice within the constraints of the story. To me the story was more melodramatic than I had anticipated, and I didn’t really connect with Erika as a character until well past the halfway point in the book. I’m on a huge Alaska reading cycle now, and this was not the best book I’ve recently come across.

Sometimes, you really can go home. I so enjoyed this journey to love between two strong-willed people: a workaholic, city surgeon and a small-town, search and rescue leader. Talk about opposites attracting! Snow packs this first book in her Wild River series with lots of sizzle, heart, action, adventure, and complicated family dynamics. Her characters are complex and multi-layered. I became invested in them quickly and fully engaged in the issues surrounding them and standing in the way of a potential HEA. Snow's descriptions of Wild River bring the small town to life as well as the people who live there. I'm already looking forward to many more stories set there and hoping Cassie's will be next.

I loved this book. It is the perfect holiday romance for me -- which means it isn't too heavy on the holiday. I loved Erika and Reed, and the adventures they had together.

When Erika gets sent on a mandatory holiday after too much time working at the hospital, she heads back to her hometown of Wind River. She reconnects with her childhood best friend, and her (gorgeous) brother. Winter in Alaska brings a lot of hazards, though, and Erika joins Reed on a few search and rescue missions. This only brings them closer, and creates the perfect romance.

I loved the rediscovery of the friendship between Cassie and Erika, and especially the addition of Cassie's dog. There are really three-dimensional characters in this book which makes it even more fun to read. It felt real for there to be a friendship in addition to romance. Erika was also really focused on her job throughout the book, and the decision she might need to make to stay with Reed. I thought this was a really great conflict to add to the character development.

The adventure aspect was really my favorite part of the novel. I loved that we got a little suspense and action in addition to the romance. It made this book original and very fun to read. I am definitely going to keep a lookout for the next one in the series.

When workaholic doctor Erika Sheraton is forced to take a vacation at Christmas, she doesn’t know what to do with herself. A hasty call to Cassie, her best friend growing up, has her heading back to her hometown of Wild River, Alaska.
When Eirka gets to Wild River, she has absolutely no idea what to do with herself while there. She’s not the same girl she was growing up there. She’s polished and sophisticated and doesn’t fit in that well with the down to earth Cassie and Cassie’s brother Reed. Oh boy does Cassie remember Reed. He was the bane of Erika’s existence growing up, and the one that got lost with her that night in the woods. Now though, Reed’s all grown up and looking very hot. He runs a search and rescue team in Wild River as needed, while also helping his friend Tank run the bar he owns.
That’s where Erika sees him for the first time. Cassie had picked Erika up and had driven her to Tank’s bar for some drinks. Both women were trying adjust to the other as adults, since they hadn’t seen or talked to each other in years, and Cassie thought that a few drinks at the bar might loosen the tension.
The sparks that fly between Reed and Erika are enough to set the Alaskan wilderness on fire, and when they finally connect, it’s HOT!!
Erika’s called back to Washington after the trials she proposed for a new treatment option gets approved and the two try to have a long distance relationship. With all the stress Erika has to deal with from the hospital and the trial, she lets her relationship falter. It’s only when something major happens to Reed, does she realize what’s truly important.
This is such a good book!! The writing, the storyline, the characters. You willingly get taken to cold, snowy Alaska in the winter, but the heat between Erika and Reed will keep you warm. I really can’t wait for Tank and Cassie’s story either!! Definitely one clickable!!

An Alaskan Christmas by Jennifer Snow is on that tugged at my heart strings. I felt the chemistry spark between the protagonists. It was fun following their blossoming romance and their tensions break. Relationships and hard work are a huge theme in this book. But it also shows there's more to life than working. New beginnings and a chance at forever romance are shown here. Whether or not these characters got it, I enjoyed the reading it. The pages showed the reality of real life, the drama of work and stress. The risks of getting into a relationship and etc. It all tied in beautifully. Jennifer Snow wrote well. Her characters are unforgettable.

When I was asked to be part of this tour, I knew there was a great selection of books to choose from, I mean come on look at that list on the banner! Anyway, I loved the cover of this one and that made me want to read it. Then I looked at the summary and I knew right away I wanted to add this one to the list of reviews on my blog.

I've never read anything by author Jennifer Snow and I'm so glad I took this chance to read An Alaskan Christmas because now I'm hooked on her writing style. The best thing about it is how easily I was hooked and it just flowed so well. It's such an easy read, but at the same time, An Alaskan Christmas was such an intriguing story. I just fell right into the book and lived it right along with the characters. Or at least that's how it felt.

I just love these types of stories when it comes to Christmas books. I can't get enough of them. I love how it was his sister's best friend and now he's like wow. Even if they do fight it a little! I loved these characters so much. I cheered for them to get together and was so happy once it finally happened. (Seriously I was cheering out loud while I read this story.) Yep, I'm one of those readers!

I can't wait to read more of author Jennifer Snow's books now that I love her writing so much! I want to thank Harlequin for introducing me to a new to me author, one that I love and for letting me part of this tour! If you haven't picked up your copy of An Alaskan Christmas, you should do that today! It's a fantastic and cozy read, perfect for the holiday season.

Fans of Jill Shalvis and Lori Foster are going to love Jennifer Snow and her sexy, funny, emotional and feel-good contemporary romance, An Alaskan Christmas.

The temperature might be positively arctic in Alaska, but there is certainly plenty of heat between Erika Sheraton and her best friend’s brother, Reed Reynolds. Erika is a workaholic surgeon who is more likely to be in scrubs than in a ski suit, but when she is ordered to take some much needed time off, she decides to take up her friend Cassie’s offer and go on an adventure to Wild River, Alaska where there is plenty for adrenaline junkies to do. However, little does Erika realize that she is about be go on the biggest adventure of her life when she is reunited with Cassie’s brother, Reed Reynolds. Sparks start flying between the two of them from the very first moment they clap eyes on one another and the chemistry between them is so hot, it could melt ice!

Reed remembers his sister’s friend Erika as a buttoned-up girl who always had her nose in a book, so he is surprised when he sees that Erika has blossomed into a strong, sexy and confident woman. As the two begin to spend more and more time together, their feelings for one another begin to veer from the platonic to the passionate and when Reed realizes that Erika would be a perfect fit for his search and rescue team, resisting temptation soon proves to be impossible.

Wild River is as far removed from Erika’s big city life as it is possible to get, but the more time she spends there, the more she realizes that she simply cannot imagine leaving. Reed is everything she never knew she wanted, but what will she do? Will she forego this chance at happiness for the sake of her career? Or will she realize that being in Wild River and in Reed’s arms is where she belongs?

An action-packed romantic read that sizzles with sensuality, passion, adventure, drama, pathos and emotion,
An Alaskan Christmas is a terrific and feel-good romance featuring a fabulous heroine readers would love to have as a best friend, a sexy hero who will them swoon and plenty of chemistry and sensuality to keep them hooked from beginning to end.

Jennifer Snow has penned a brilliant Christmas romance with An Alaskan Christmas and with more books coming in the Wild River series, I simply cannot wait to read what she writes next.

Ever since I read the Simple Wild I've been wanting another story set in Alaska and this was the perfect read. Loved it! Right from the start of the book I was drawn in. The characters are relatable and the search and rescue missions kept you at the edge of your seat. Lots of steam too so if you don't like open door love stories, then this one is not for you. It wasn't very Christmas-y but that was okay with me. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Thank you to HQN for a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

An Alaskan Christmas has left it's mark embedded in my heart. Reed and Erika are the sweetest example of what Snow does best. The emotion is real enough to swallow you whole. Feelings are deep enough to swim in. With characters that prove themselves as irresistible as they are unpredictable, it's no wonder I couldn't help but fall in love. Heartache gives way to second chances with a hand from a hint of Christmas magic.

This was a great read! I wasn't expecting such a steamy read for a Christmas book but it was fun to read. The story focuses on high powered Dr. Erika Sheraton and search and rescue extraordinaire Reed Reynolds. After Erika is forced to take a vacation by the hospital, she heads back to her small town to visit an old friend. She meets up with her friend's brother and sparks fly. Very engaging and enjoyable story.

Erika has been ORDERED to take a vacation. A vacation is what she DOES NOT want. So, she is determined to make the best of a bad situation. She contacts an old friend, Cassie, and heads off for an adventure in Wild River, Alaska. And an adventure is just what she finds, along with something she was not looking for…love.

Reed is Cassie’s brother. He runs a search-and-rescue team. He and Erika knock heads a few times, but it just leads them to discover what they love about each other. I enjoyed Reed. He is tough, smart and HOT! What’s not to love. He and Erika make a great pair!

Give me a book set in Alaska and I am hooked. This is a sweet holiday romance with an edge. Check it out today!

Whew, An Alaskan Christmas by Jennifer Snow is one steamy Christmas read! Here's what I liked in this book: Erika is an intelligent doctor and passionate about work; the holiday setting in Alaska and that it's a complete story. But as I continue to expand genres, I learned that I have a limit on steam and this one was a bit too much for me in the area. But I know many readers want that in their romance reads so I see why so many people love this book. I liked it enough but again, less steam for me. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

Erika and Reed’s love story in An Alaskan Christmas by Jennifer Snow, book 1 in A Wild River series, is a friends to lovers and best friend’s brother trope as well as intriguing, sexy, and an enjoyable tale. Not knowing where to go when forced to take a vacation right before Christmas, workaholic Dr. Erika Sheraton decides to head to Wild River, Alaska where she grew up. Her friend Cassie owns a tour company that offers adventures to fit each visitor, but it’s her brother, Reed, who makes Erika's heart race. Reed doesn’t remember Erika being so strong, skilled, and confident. She’s exactly what his search-and-rescue team needs and maybe what’s been missing from his life. When Erika returns to her big city hospital she wonders if small town living and being near Reed just might be a better fit for her.

Ms. Snow wrote a fun, flirty, sexy romance that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, sexual chemistry, humor, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters giving Erika and Reed a chance at a forever love. I highly recommend An Alaskan Christmas to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.

An Alaskan Christmas is the first book in Jennifer Snow’s new series, Wild River, which takes place in Wild River, Alaska. When Dr Erika Sheraton, gets sentenced to a mandatory two-week vacation, she decides to head back to her hometown and her childhood best friend, Cassie Reynolds. When Erika arrives in Wild River, she and Cassie quickly realise how much they’ve changed over time, but after reuniting with Cassie’s brother, Reed Reynolds, the two best friends finally start to get their groove back.
Speaking of Big Brother… Sparks are flying every which way between Reed and Erika. The pair have an immediate connection despite their rocky start. They butt heads as much as they flirt, which, for me, is so entertaining. I like my romance pairings to have various sparkings, okay? A little strife to add some spice to life. Growing up, Reed had a complex about proving himself to his little sister’s stuck-up best friend, they didn’t really interact aside from this one time one time they got lost overnight on a camping trip.
One of the things I truly enjoyed about An Alaskan Christmas was the research Jennifer Snow put into this book. Not just in the medical mumbo jumbo that I know absolutely nothing about but also in the search and rescue field which I’m happy to say I’m a fan of. So, when I say Ms Snow did research, I mean it! The one thing I didn’t really like was Erika was dogsitting and had the chance to put the dog’s shoes on but her response was “you’re a dog”. Ahem.
If you feel the need to protect yourself from the cold, including your feet, put the shoes on the dog because dogs can get frostbite too! I live in Florida, the complete opposite of Alaska, but my dogs wear boots so they don't burn their feet. If you feel the need to wear shoes to protect your feet from something, put boots on your dog. It bothers me so much that we have this educated character presented with the option of taking the precaution of protecting a dog from needing medical treatment and instead, she opts for "why would a dog need boots? so ridiculous." Why not educate your audience through your story and help put shoes on other dogs out there whose owners have that mentality through subliminal messaging? Instead, Jennifer Snow put dog boots in the story and made them seem ridiculous.
Moving on, An Alaskan Christmas is about love, connection, and discovery. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this book (like I’m ever sure about anything), but as I read Erika and Reed’s story, I found myself enjoying it. Did I hope Erika would fall down the stairs for not putting the boots on the dog? Maybe. But other than that, I found this book a great read. I got my emotions all twisted about and tugged every which way just right and I really enjoyed the storyline.
This book contains alcohol consumption, bar scenes, a father with an alcohol problem, life-threatening situations in the wild, and medical procedures performed in less-than optimum surroundings, and loss of parents.
Overall, I'm giving An Alaskan Christmas 4 stars and 5 flames. This book was well researched, entertaining, and absorbing. I look forward to reading the second book (hopefully Cassie's!). I received a copy of An Alaskan Christmas from Harlequin as a part of their 2019 Holiday Blog Tour and as super excited as being a part of Harlequin's blogging community, this does not influence my rating or review. I'm an overly opinionated heifer and, after thirty years on this planet, I'm stuck in the zone. But the FTC demands I make you aware of my connection to Harlequin so I'm connected to Harlequin as a voluntary blogger and reviewer. Now, keep reading for an excerpt of An Alaskan Christmas!

An Alaskan Christmas is the first book in the Wild River series. If you enjoy stories with characters who figure out that the path they were on ends up not being the path they really wanted, then you will love this story. I ended up really enjoying Erika and Reed's romance. I liked that they had a history and were willing to see how much each other had changed since they were younger. It's a sweet holiday romance and one I would recommend. I can't wait to read Cassie's story!

While I was searching for just the right cover picture, I saw that the author, Jennifer Snow, has several books about Alaska. Quite curious, since a friend I was talking to about the book said she loves reading about Alaska - perfect!

In An Alaskan Christmas, Dr. Erika Sheraton is forced to vacation from her obsessive surgeon job at a busy Anchorage hospital and return to her little hometown in rural Alaska. Here she reconnects with her childhood best friend, and is re-introduced to her friend's (now exceedingly hot) brother. You see where this is going...

In addition to several steamy scenes, I really liked the search and rescue descriptions. While love interest Reed Reynolds may not have a lot of fancy titles behind his name, he's got a unique skill set doing a job that no one would claim is easy!

This is the first book in Jennifer Snow's new Wild River series, and I look forward to getting to know the rest of this quaint town's inhabitants. I'd give this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.
