Not my kind of book but know others who would like. A bit slow to unfold. I would try another by this same author.

Thought I had a good grasp of were this story line would go, but wow was I wrong! While it was a bit hard to follow at times, the lead character was so complex, I had to reread several parts. Strange but captivating ending.

A stranger appears before Lydia and Lucas who sleepwalk through their days on Wolf Island. He knows things that might imply he is their long lost brother but why he has returned and what he wants with the siblings start this mystery spinning quickly out of control.

I do not regret reading this book, but I found it very unusual and considered stopping at several points. The pace felt uneven, meandering at times, and then frantic at others. The idea of a stranger coming into Lydia's life and taking advantage of her vulnerability and trust issues is intriguing, and allows the reader to understand how Lydia could be so confused about Cole, his background, even the possibility of him being their long lost brother. But the level of suspended belief that was necessary to process the slowly emerging details of Cole's life was almost more than possible. It felt like there were several moments that were meant to be big twists, major surprises, but they felt forced or so implausible that they didn't hit home. I read to the end and was working with enough suspense that I had to find out Cole's true identity and motive, but something about this book just didn't quite hit the mark for me.

As with most books on NetGalley, this book is a great read. Captivating and intriguing. Thematically beautiful. Gorgeous writing.

This book was a jumble of mystery, suspense, romance, and drama. I felt like the author had a hard time picking a genre and just threw them all into this novel. I have trouble with a book where the villain is my favorite character. Lucas and Lydia were so needy and backward that they were hard to connect with. They must have been desperate to let a stranger jump right into their lives. The story was slow moving at times.

Goodnight Stranger really opened my eyes about family roles, twin-ship, and trust. A very nice story examining family values. Recommended.

Lydia and Lucas live alone in their parents house on Isolated Wolf Island . One day their long dead Baby B shows up and takes over their lives . Could this possibly be their brother that died as an infant ? Mysteries and twists abound in this thriller

A suspensful and haunting read, perfect for the upcoming fall season. Gault keeps a steady and slow pace, and develops an atmospheric, spooky setting with a mysterious ghost story. There are plots twists and well-developed characters, so I'll definitely add this to my Halloween Reads bib.

Thank you to NetGalley, Miciah Bay Gault, and Harlequin for sending me the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was an interesting read. I was skeptical about the whole dead brother scenario. I did enjoyed the process of uncovering the backstory for Cole.

This book deals with grief, mystery. I liked the writing. I read it in an afternoon.

Surviving twins Lydia and Lucas have spent their entire life on Wolf Island mourning the loss of Baby B. One day, as Lydia attends her job in the information booth, a stranger steps off the ferry and changes their lives forever. He seems to know Lydia and painfully shy Lucas. Lydia watches Lucas blossom and embrace the stranger as missing Baby B. Lydia too is drawn to this man, but in a very different way. If Lydia isn’t careful, this stranger will turn her world upside down and may destroy all she has ever known and loved. I throughly enjoyed this shocking psychological thriller and could not stop reading as events unfolded. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, though I found some elements of the narrative unnecessary. 3.5 stars.

Goodnight Stranger is the story of Lydia, who feels trapped on her island home by her duty to her melancholic brother Lucas, and haunted by the memory of their triplet brother who died as a baby. When a stranger comes to town, he and Lydia are immediately drawn to each other, and it's like he's a missing part of their family. However, we soon start to get major Talented Mr. Ripley vibes, and Lydia vows to find out who this guy is before he destroys them all.

The writing is great and unnerving, and the island setting and its closely-knitted inhabitants feel alive.

"Goodnight Stranger" delivers a smorgasbord of emotions. Miciah Bay Gault presents elements of the paranormal, lust, suspense, familial caring, and security in Lydia's childhood home. The beauty and serenity of the two siblings' seaside life masks underlying tragedies. Today's ferry arrival, includes the appearance of magnetic stranger...

This was sort of a strange book. Was it a mystery? Sort of. Was it concerning supernatural? Not really though it seemed to be trying to. Was it romance? In a weird way I guess. It just seemed like all these themes thrown together to see which one would stick. I didn't hate the book - but didn't love it either. I think it's one of those books where you had to be in the right mood to fully enjoy it - - and I guess I wasn't.

Lydia and Lucas live together in a ramshackle house on (fictitious) Wolf Island, the smaller, less well endowed neighbor of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Their mother died 10 years ago, Lucas has anxiety issues, and Lydia, well Lydia came back to the island before completing a single semester at Brown to care for their mother and hasn't left since. They are the two remaining children of a set of triplets, the dead one being Baby B, whose existence, life, and death comes into question when Cole appears on the Island. Cole winds his way into both their hearts but most especially to Lucas, who comes to believe strongly that he is Baby B. Lydia is less convinced and sets out to find out who Cole really is. This gets seriously creepy in spots- Gault has a good way of ramping up tensions. Lydia is a very sympathetic character; she's someone who has lived along the margins and been paralyzed by her own inertia but the need to protect Lucas from Cole catapults her into action. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a well done, nicely plotted thriller with a number of twists I didn't see coming. I liked how a small thing and event you might not have paid much attention becomes quite important. A satisfying read.

Such a polished novel for a debut! The characters are developed with great depth and the locale is perfectly described. A steadily building suspense kept me eagerly reading. My only negative is it ended on a bit of a preachy note.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC to read and review.

We meet siblings Lydia and Lucas who have spent their lives mourning a brother they never knew, living in a protected island world where they know everyone and everyone knows them, living an unexciting life. When a stranger comes to town that seems so familiar like maybe you know them, is that wishful thinking, deja vu, or a past life entering your world? Maybe it’s all the above, maybe none. Miciah Bay Gault’s new thriller takes the reader from the familiar to the uncomfortable slowly, like a frog in a pot of hot water.

I loved this novel, the writing and the story were both captivating. I think this would make an excellent book club pick.

Goodnight Stranger features characters who are haunted in multiple ways. Lydia and her brother, Lucas, remain in the house where they grew up, long after their parents passed away. They have some comfort in routines, but still feel the loss of their brother--a third triplet--who died in infancy. A handsome stranger walks off of the ferry on their island, quickly commanding their attention. Lucas believes he is the reincarnation of their late brother, Colin. Lydia is more suspicious, but still drawn to the stranger, whose name is Cole.

It's hard to put this book down, after the first few chapters; so many questions need to be answered, about the past, about the present, about Lydia herself--what does she want? I would recommend it to people who like the suspense/thriller genres with a touch of the gothic.

I was lucky to receive an advanced reader eBook copy of this title through Netgalley, with the understanding that I would post a review after I finished.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Mystery about a brother and sister who are unable to fully live their lives after the loss of their triplet. I love the twist at the conclusion.
