*I received this book for free from neutrally for an honest review* This book was an insta apply for me. Scottish story with the word Lass in the title. SOLD. Unfortunately I couldn't connect with the story or the characters at all. I like predictability to a point but this was a little too much for me. I think this is very much due to personal preference, I like strong female leads, and have a certain mold and this didn't fit my personal needs. You could very well like it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. The world building and character explanation was ok and easy enough for me to follow and finish the book, and I did enjoy the ending. I just didn't connect. I don't have much else to say except I hope you like it more than I do, and remember everyone is different, where this is a 2 star for me it could easily be a 5 for you. |
A truly romantic marriage of convenience story. These two are absolutely determined to avoid ever getting married, but they hadn't counted on the mercenary nature of one certain man, nor the undeniable attraction they each would feel for each other that flares to life when that certain man forces their hand. Cam and Bridget are both strong-willed, independent individuals who are, nonetheless, at the mercy of society's expectations and standards. I loved the way these two wrestled with their unexpected feelings, and what it meant for their own life's plans. They really are delightful together, perfectly complementary, a union that makes each one so much better than they are alone. It was a captivating story, filled with wit and plenty of steam. Their HEA was so satisfying, even if it was a little over-the-top with the unexpected but prescient letter. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. |
This is my promised fair and honest review for this ARC. It is always a pleasure reading books by Callie Hutton. She writes in a style that gives you an involved story with great characters. This is in line with previous books. |
I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of His Rebellious Lass by Callie Hutton. I have to say that it was one of those books that I started and finished in the same day and I regret absolutely nothing. It is the first book in her new Scottish Hearts series! The nutshell of it is Lady Bridget MacDuff's father passes away with an outdated will of roughly 10 years in effect thusly making her the ward of Parliament star the Marquess of Campbell. Campbell, or rather Cam, is a self proclaimed bachelor and rake who has a very high success rate of marrying off his sisters, so feels sure that his newly minted ward will be no challenge, quickly putting him back on the path to his normal life. Lady Bridget, who is a bit more mature at 21, has completely different ideas. Within the boundaries of her fathers will, if she doesn't marry by 23 his fortune will be released to her. She has big plans for that money and zero desires to allow a man to derail it. Well, maybe no plans. Cam is definitely not your average rake. Things I loved about it: it was just a good story with good characters. I genuinely liked both Bridget and Cam and their back stories simply strengthened their appeal. Their strengths and weaknesses were so endearing that you cant help but be invested in their happiness. It was a good moving plot with some suspense, sexual tension and the good old good vs evil mantra. Things I wished were a little different was just a tad bit resolution on the end but I won't go into that and spoil anything in the book. Sometimes the pace washed over some of the action and adventure. All in all though, I was really happy with in it. I will definitely read Callie Hutton again and will be on the look out for her next installment. |
Cam, the Marquess of Campbell has found that he has a ward. Lady Bridget is a beautiful redhaired Scot. She can't believe that her father made her a ward to Cam. All he wants to do is marry her off and be rid of her. She wants to open a house for abused women after her friend was abused and eventually died from her husband's cruelty. He is Lord Davenport and no one wants to get involved. Suitors are not a problem for Bridget, but Cam refuses to let her marry just anyone. When Bridget explains to Cam why she feels so strongly about about helping women, he vows to help her. When Lord Davenport asks Cam for Bridget's hand, he realizes it is a chance to ruin Davenport and have him leave England. Cam and Bridget have strong feelings for each other, but so many differences keep them apart. When they marry to keep her reputation from being ruined after a kidnapping, will the marriage survive? I loved this book. It is so much more than a story. It covers issues that are relevant to today's problems. I voluntarily read this book for a honest review. Thank you to Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for allowing me to read this great book. |

Lady Bridget MacDuff arrives at the estate of Cam, the Marquess of Campbell, drawing him back home to find she is his ward. Bridget is determined to rid herself of his presence and to follow through on her plans to open a home for abused women, having lost a close friend. Cam is determined to marry her off despite her resistance and the more he tries, the more they find themselves attracted to each other. They struggle with the relationship, with Cam finding it difficult to leave behind his long-held assumptions of women. Bridget also refuses to be accepting of his attitudes, but I did find her the more enjoyable of the two characters. At times, the spark between the two seemed rushed with little time spent in dialogue, yet other times, I really enjoyed the banter between them. Overall an entertaining yet with an enjoyable romance between Bridget and Cam. I received an advanced review copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. |

Overall a good regency romance story. On the one hand, there is Marquess of Campbell, who is trying his best to stay away from pushy women who want to marry him and his fortune. Then there is spunky Lady Bridget MacDuff, who is thrust upon the Marquess as a ward, after the death of her father. A lot of both trying to avoid marriage, and the attraction between them, and of course a scandal or two makes for a good story. Only a few things that bothered me a bit. Since she just lost her father it seemed she was going out and about too quickly. Also, never did see why she would go out for a ride with a guy she knew was a killer, as it seemed reckless. Other than than though, easy to read and put down, I recommend this book. |
I really enjoyed Bridget and Cam's story! Imagine being given a ward by someone you hadn't even known. On top of that, it's a full grown woman! Bridget and Cam clash from the beginning of the story. He wants to marry her off to get her off his hands and she wants nothing to do with marriage. This definitely lead to many confrontations between the two. But then those passionate arguments lead to a mutual attraction. What happens when they decide to no longer fight it? This was a great start to a new series by Hutton. I loved Bridget's passion for what she wanted to do in her friend's honor and for Cam to allow her the freedom to pursue (although with conditions...). I'm excited to see what Hutton brings us with the next book in the series! |

I received a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. his rebellious lass was a great book. I loved both Bridget and Cam. bridge's father has died and her guardian is Cam until she turns 23, however Bridget has no intention of getting married. bridge's friend was abused and killed by her husband so now Bridget is determine to open a women's shelter for working women that have nowhere else to go. Cam refuses to marry and reproduce because he is afraid he will be an abusive father like his sire. Cam just wants to marry off his unexpected ward and get back to his life. I loved bridge's independence and her desire to do to in the world. Cam was really sweet. really enjoyable. 4.5 stars. |

The best thing about this book is the understanding of domestic abuse. It's about Bridgit who wants to spend her inheritance helping women who have been abused by their husbands in Regency England. But Bridgit’s fate is managed by her guardian, Cam, who has sworn to never marry to avoid repeating the mistakes of his brutal father. This aspect of the book has a lot of heart, but somehow this relationship between the central characters is a little arid. For me they did not come to life like the wonderful characters in some of her other books. Then there are half evolved lesser characters. The dozy chaperone who is not up to the job. The panicking woman who pushes her baby girl into Bridgit’s arms begging for her child’s life. These promising subplots are never really developed. I love Callie Hutton when she is witty. She has produced some hilarious novels such as ‘The Elusive Wife’ and ‘Seducing the Marquess’. I highly recommend these novels for anyone looking for a few laughs in between sizzling romantic scenes. But ‘His Rebellious Lass’ is more sombre. Everything that Callie Hutton writes is truly enjoyable. But I would have to rank this novel as in the bottom 50% of her books . |
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 A really wonderful, lighthearted, and engaging story , which I could read again straight away . Cam finds he has a ward at a most inconvenient time in his life, he wants no more responsibility, definitely not a young chit whose stubborn, outspoken and doesn’t want to marry , which is his sole goal as far as she’s concerned. Bridget knows her own mind and intends to get exactly what she wants , Cam is the stubborn one from what she can tell , and no man is going to tell her to marry , or give up her dreams for that matter . Will the two ever come to an understanding? Loved this book by Callie Hutton, she’s an excellent writer. I received an Arc of this book and chose to post this review |

Good story! I particularly enjoyed the strong heroine Bridget MacDuff. She is not afraid to stand up to Cam when she has to. I received this ARC from the publisher and NetGalley, all opinions are mine. |

This is a well written and entertaining story revolving around Bridget who has been made ward to Marquess of Campbell and the disruption to his orderly life begins. His intentions to marry her off as soon as possible falls by the wayside as he begins to care for her. There is a lot that happens in this story which brings them closer together. There is a HEA but not before he just about loses her. It is a great read and I would highly recommend this book. |
It's wasn't my cup of tea: it's well written but I couldn't care for the characters and the plot was quite slot at the beginning. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine. |

Bridget is dismayed to learn that her late father has willed her as a ward to his peer, Lord Campbell and that the elderly man she was expecting has also departed and instead a much younger, virile and arrogant version is her rightful guardian. Cam is no less dismayed and after their initial clashes and almighty rows, they come to a compromise. Bridget will consider all the suitors that Cam intends to parade in front of her in his attempt to quickly secure her a marriage and get her off his hands if he in turn will help her in the setting up of a safe house for abused women. Both are adamantly against marriage; Bridget wanting her independence & who believes a husnand will stifle her while Cam has a (rather stupid) chip his shoulder because of his abusive father & thinks that he will be the same “once he marries and has children”. An obvious and predictable storyline and romance. Still quite entertaining and the lively, spirited Bridget and Cam are engaging characters. |
A bit soon at times and hard to get into compared to other books by this author. Enjoyed it by the end. I just had terrible connecting to the characters. |
A slow start for a Lord and his ward. Soon the more they disagree the more they are attracted to each other. When the nasty villain makes his move, love comes into play. A heartbreaking look at the abuse of children and women and the power of men in a Regency marriage. Received a free copy from Netgalley for an honest review. |
Well now Cam likes to thinks he runs things, "he leaned in, almost bringing them nose -to-nose. “Woman, either you go upstairs and put on something appropriate, or I will do it for you.” Cam could be a smart man at times, “hmm. When a woman says ‘nothing’ to that question, it is usually something of a momentous nature.” I liked this book, I loved Cam. |
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was a disappointing historical romance. Cam and Bridget are forced into each others lives when Bridget's father makes her his ward. Neither wish to marry so Bridget tries her hardest to keep Cam from marrying her off. I wasn't crazy about Bridget's mood swings. She goes from angry and self righteous to a dim witted, child in minutes. I also did not feel the chemistry between her and Cam. The story felt forced and clichéd. |
