I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Somehow I read this one and the next one out of order but it really didn’t matter I was able to still follow the story. I did really like this one it was a pretty good read. I did like Blair and Finley’s story the best. I do wish they just had more trust in each other.

Amazing! This is the first book I have read from author Lori Ann Bailey and she now has a new fan. This book is exciting and adventurous. I loved the main characters Finlay and Blair. Both had exceptional strengths that made them work well together. It was a romance and love they had to fight fiercely for because she was running from someone who was trying to blackmail her and he had his own issues from his past with his father's family especially his brothers that still lingered to this day. This is a book worth reading and I highly recommend it. I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this book had very realistic dialogue and characters behaved true to the highland period. The heroines choices were limited and I admired her strength despite being used by her father as a negotiable pawn. Finley is a warrior and I loved that he treated her the way every man should treat his wife. Pleasantly entertaining.

Highland Salvation by Lori Ann Bailey is an emotional roller coaster. The characters are likable so it's easy to get involved in their highs and lows.
Finlay is an honorable and loyal man. He's everything a girl should want in a husband, but he doesn't see himself that way. Blair was a remarkable woman that needed to be told of her worth. They were young and not good at communicating. Add that to the people out to get them and it's hard on a newly married couple.
This is a HEA and fourth in series, but it can be read ad a stand alone. I stayed up too late to read it and don't regret my loss of sleep.

Ugliness is as much apart of war as the clanking of steal from swords. It’s a sight highland warriors know all too well, but sometimes war brings out a bigger weasel in men than anyone ever dreamed was there. What is a noble highland warrior to do when he needs to deliver hard news to a bonny lass whose eyes are as haunted as the specter filled blood soaked fields of battle? Save her, of course. The form of rescue might be everything he ever dared dreamed of with this wonderful lass, but the devil is in the smallest details of the heart, and saving this one might just leave his hopes dashed or spill his blood to the ground.

This was such a sweet story that really too the world of historical romance in a different direction for me. I am used to seeing a lot of arranged marriages in this genre, as well as the love by chance and love with the enemy but this kind of marriage was a new one for me and one that actually did occur. Our story starts out with the very determined Blair having a political argument with her father, the Laird of the clan. This is immediate followed by getting some news from her brother and the stunningly handsome Finlay Cameron. By all accounts this should be news that crushes her mood even further, but Blair only feels a sense of relief. This quickly changes when she is blackmailed though by a snake who wants her for his own sick gain. I have to say, my heart really bled for this poor girl. During this time it was really hard for a woman’s voice to be heard above a man, so when this kind of thing happened a lot of woman found themselves between a rock and a hard place. Blair knows how awful her life can turn out depending on the type of man she winds up being given to, so she is determined to do everything in her power to make sure she knows how to be useful around an estate. I have to say I was really moved by her determination to learn how to run a household in the way the lord should on her own. This may seem like a silly thing now, but back then this was really very brave and rare for a woman to act as the lord of a household.

Finlay has always liked Blair, but he is not blind and knows she does not feel for him as he does for her and he wants more than that from a relationship. However, when her brother asks him to step in and marry his sister he has a hard time turning down the request. He can tell Blair is in some kind of trouble and wants to make sure she is protected for all time. I really, really liked Finlay. He is such a sweetheart. He knows he may never get from Blair what he wants, but he is determined to make her as happy as she can be. His drive to protect her starts out cute in the beginning but grows into awe inspiring passion as the book goes on.

Attraction from looks is something I am very used to in all romance novels, but I love it when the initial attraction stems from something else entirely, and that is exactly what happens with Finlay in this story. Finlay does find Blair gorgeous from the start, but you can just tell without even reading his thoughts that her beauty is not what has drawn him to her so strongly. He sees her for what she has worked so hard to become and he truly admires her for it. I loved how he could tell what even her family could not about her and how he looked for those deeper qualities in her that he then falls in love with.

I have always felt that there should be so much more to a relationship than just a fondness for each-other and a knowledge of the past. Making sure that you can blend yourself in with the natural flow of someone’s past with your own in some way is very important too and I loved how Finlay does that in this book. He learns little things about Blair past happenings that have shaped her present from watching her and then finds little ways to incorporate himself with that and deepen their relationship from it. This helped me feel closer to the story and really warmed my heart.

The only things that have kept me from giving this story a higher page turner ranking are Blair’s character and the way their rocky relationship start was presented. I didn’t get a lot of current interactions with Blair’s character that really really showed me what kind of person she is. The few sad past experiences and problems along with her destination to show she can run a house are the only things that stuck out about her. This reduced my ability to humanize and emotionally connect to her character. The other thing that threw me was the couples reluctance to tell each-other anything about themselves. Both of them decide to keep every little detail tucked away until they are either asked about it, or it has no other choice but to come out. It seemed like all their relationship issues stemmed only form that.

All in all this was a really enjoyable read. I loved how things wind up playing out and I was pleasantly surprised at some of the twists and turns I never saw coming in the story. I really did love how the relationship between Finlay and Blair develops and how much they come to mean to each other.

Overall:
Highland Salvation was a book I really did enjoy reading. I felt the way Finlay desires to protect his new wife from the beginning was very sweet and loving. This story shows a different side to marriages that actually did happen during this time and I love how things turn out in this book. There are a couple of hiccups in this story for me but I still enjoyed it.

Would I Recommend It:
This is one that I have to say I would leave up to you. It’s not one I would shout at other romance lovers to go buy right now, but if it sounds like a story you’d like than yes, give it a go.

the highland pride series continues with highland salvation, and this one includes one of my favorite tropes in highland romances. the forced proximity/marriage of convenience trope.

finlay cameron is actually kind of glad when he's commanded to marry blair mcnab. he's long admired her, but due to the circumstances is uncertain on whether or not he can trust her. especially since someone seems to be targeting him. he can't believe that blair would ever willingly love him, because he's an english lord's bastard and not great at book learning (he's likely dyslexic). this makes him the strong, silent type with that gooey soft center i love. but the fact that these two characters have such challenges in communication also frustrates me to no end.

blair holds back because she's made some bad choices, and she's been blackmailed into this marriage and doesn't know that she can trust finlay. she doesn't always know how to take his gruff disposition and often they find themselves at cross-purposes in ways that make me crazy.

but there's enough heat and intrigue to sustain the story. and this series continues to be enjoyable and can easily keep going, these highland clans are so interlaced the possibilities are endless.

Well, I had quite a struggle at first salvaging what was going down in this storyline, my fellow Scottish romance book loving friends. You see, I’m just not a fan of the scenario the author used to create a hand-wringing damsel in distress.

If I’m not mistaken, even Finlay, the hero, in the past strongly suspected this guy was hurting Blair and did nothing but clench his teeth/fists while wishing he could help her. Yeah, I’m also not fond of a hero who isn’t always on the clock 24/7 when it comes to being an actual hero. He should have confronted the guy then and there and clocked him a good one. Not weeks afterwards stepping in to help her because of the assumed aftermath. Sure, Finlay gets a solid one star bump all to himself for the reasons he married Blair, but the fact we are told he’s always been attracted to her/wanted to catch her eye but she’s never given him a second look also dampened by enthusiasm.

At 35%, I actually put this book down and walked away. Determined to give it another fair shake, I tried again a few days later. Finlay was definitely a good guy at heart who’s been treated unfairly by certain members of his own family. He seemed to be plagued with insecurities and bouts of stupidity when he jumped to idiotic assumptions at the drop of a hat.

Blair was certainly better off to be out of the clutches of her traitorous father. Together these two perfect for each other lovebirds do have some knucklehead miscommunications/false assumptions and accusations that temporarily cause tension between them. There is a mostly unforgivable one at 90% though that really took the cake. I was nearly finished with Finlay over that one, folks. It nearly did Blair in, as well.

Overall, this was a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed the majority of it, but good guy Finlay was a complete knucklehead for no good reason more than once. It lowered my overall rating.
Title: Highland Salvation, Series: Highland Pride (Book 4), Author: Lori Ann Bailey, Pages: 307, stand-alone but part of a series, previously raped heroine, good guy hero willing to step in whenever needed, bonny lass everyone wants, jumps to wrong assumptions too quickly.

Book 1 - Highland Deception
Book 2 - Highland Redemption
Book 3 - Highland Temptation
Book 4 - Highland Salvation

The writing was immersive.

The imagery was amazing.

Blair was a bad butt b****. I loved her so much. She wasn’t willing to give up hope on the relationship with her husband despite the slightly unconventional start to the relationship. She was not willing to just be a “normal” (note the quotation marks) bride. She was going to get involved. It’s really interesting how she was fighting more for the freedom to do things than freedom from her family.

Finlay, on the other hand, was just slightly more than typical man. He was still very proud and was extremely stubborn.

As he changed, he opened up and began to sort of accept Blair as part of his life. Due to his childhood, Finlay was unwilling to trust easily, but that changed throughout the book and it was gratifying to see.

She has just lost her fiance to war and the news was broken to her by Finlay Cameron now a member of her former fiance family is trying to blackmail her into marrying him. When her brother suggests that she should marry Finlay, Blair Macnab sees it has her escape from a cold unfeeling father who will once again marry her off for his own power . Finlay is the bastard son of an earl and while his parents love one another his father is betrothed to another in a alliance rather than a love match. He has always had his eye on his est friends sister and sees this has his opportunity to finally get her but will they survive the troubling times they live in.

Well hello there sexy Highlanders! Finlay Cameron was a totally swoony character who has his own issues and most of them revolved around his status of being a bastard son of an English earl. He is completely loyal to the cause which makes him jump to some stupid assumptions when he marries Blair Macnab. Blair is happy to accept Finlay's proposal for marriage especially if it means she will get his protection and reason to escape her abusive household and blackmailer who is keen to drag her to a dark fate.

The story is a quick paced and full of action. The developing story of Finlay and Blair provides much needed romance while all the craziness happens around them. It was endearing to see both characters evolve and learn to let go of their past baggage. Something that is always a smart choice when there are obstacles to overcomes and what better way to do that when you pair two people who in the end complete each other.

So if you are a fan of suspense, action, betrayal, hot scots, and romance then this is the book for you. I started this series with book 4 and for some parts of the story I had to catch up with but overall I think this can be read as a standalone. However, I will be going back to start with book one. There is much background on some of the secondary characters who got me curious and I must satisfy my curiosity.

Finlay Cameron is part of both worlds his father is an English Earl and his mother is Scottish. He’s loyal to King Charles and when he sees an opportunity to further increase his clan’s loyalties to King Charles and also gain a wife he’s long admired his fate is sealed. Blair Macnab’s finance has just died on the battlefield now she waits for her father to cast her off to another husband to forge alliances. Blair realizes her only option is to marry Finlay if she’s to ever have a chance at happiness and a man who will protect her. I loved this adventure story of two friends whose are fates intertwined in this intriguing story of two strong wiled characters who have a lot to learn about trust, loyalty and loving one another. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

Great book! I haven’t read any of the other books in the series, but will have to read them! It is part of a series, but I felt like I didn’t miss anything by not reading the previous books. The book was well written and moved at a fast pace. It was full of adventures, twists and intrigue. I loved reading Blair and Finlay’s story.

Highland Salvation by Lori Ann Bailey is book 4 in the Highland Pride Series. This is the story of Blair Macnab and Finlay Cameron. I have read the previous books, but feel you could make this a standalone if you wish to do so.
Finlay has been tagged to deliver news after the battle in Edinburgh which will take him into Scotland and England. Blair's brother John is the one that suggest marrying Blair once the news has been given to her. Finlay has been smitten with Blair from the start but hasn't felt that he deserves such a lady. Blair is told that Henry her soon to be husband has been killed. Instead of being sad she is greatly relieved since Henry was abusive to her. When a deal is struck with Finlay to become his wife which will save her from another abusive relationship. Now they are both heading to the King but doubts and mistrust between the two is cause some issue for them.
Really enjoyed their story.

Simply put, I loved Finlay and Blair's story! This author knows how to weave her stories so well and this one is no exception. Finlay has always cared for Blair and when her betrothed dies and he thinks she's carrying a child, he offers to marry her. Blair is being blackmailed by her dead betrothed's cousin so she decides to accept Finlay's offer.

What follows is an adventure from Scotland to England, filled with intrigue, suspense, twists and turns, romance....with the blackmailer following them, can Finlay and Blair overcome their trust issues and find happiness?

I don't read that many Highlander romances, but this one stuck out to me in particular. Usually, the illegitimate child storyline comes into play for a historical romance based in London, not Scotland, but this book was a bit of both.

At first, I was a bit confused. I thought that Blair was going to marry her betrothed's brother, but then she was able to run off with Finlay! Thank goodness she was able to, however, because Henry and his family definitely wouldn't have given her a good life. Her relationship with Finlay gets off to a rocky start as he has to take her on horseback on a long journey the day after their wedding, and she is so ill on her wedding night that she feels that she is failing her husband. But the longer that they spend on this trip, the closer they get to one another, and the more that they realize that they love each other.

The romance in this story was amazing. Finlay and Blair definitely had chemistry, and they respected one another. Blair had already gone through a really poor relationship before, so she wasn't sure exactly what a good relationship was. Finlay knew that she was beautiful, but he didn't want to push this already broken woman too far. They dance around each other until they feel comfortable with one another, and then it still takes them a few chapters to realize how strong their feelings for one another truly are.

The side story about Finlay believing that Blair was out to kill him played out in an interesting way. It definitely wasn't my favorite part of the story, it was pretty clear that Blair was madly in love with Finlay and would do nothing to hurt him. But it was interesting seeing Finlay try to figure out what exactly was going on with his wife, learning more of her backstory in the process.

My other favorite part of the story was learning about Finlay's family. Illegitimate children always have interesting stories in romance novels, so I was hunting for all the clues as Blair and Finlay pieced together the truth about Finlay's parent's relationship. It was a sad story, but I enjoyed it. I did want to punch Finlay's brothers though, they were so awful to him. It was no wonder that he was a bit emotionally closed off.

I read this entire book in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. 307 pages later, I am happy that I read it, and I hope to read more romance stories from this author.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an adult Highlander romance.

I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

What a wonderful book. Mixed with intrigue twist and turns don’t expect. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill story. But it does have a happy ending. Well all romances have a happy ending, it’s the good author who can bring you through to that ending in such a way that you don’t want the story to stop

Scotland, 1643 "How do ye tell a lass the man she is betrothed to is dead?" such was the thought of Finlay Cameron, the bastard son of an English earl and the Cameron laird's aunt. After a fierce battle fought by the Covenanters against the Royalist lairds still loyal to King Charles, Blair's bethrothed Henry had been killed. Now with her brother John, they were going to relay the news. Yet he had seen Henry abusing Blair just the week before and knew he was a bastard. When John suggested he marry Blair now, he could not believe it. Blair had never given him a second look.
So the two marry but there are so many secrets and words unspoken. He wonders if Blair may betray and kill him even! As they make their way back to England, there are many problems and he wonders if Blair and her brother John are on the wrong side in the war. But he has his secrets also and with his dyslexia, it makes him unsure of himself.
Lori Ann Bailey takes us on an adventure with suspense, intrigue, secrets, betrayals and love. Her adept use of history and happenings of the times makes you feel you are there as the story unfolds. A must read to see if Finlay and Blair can ever find a happy ever after because to road is not smooth and there are people out to stop them on the way!
