Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of A Perfect Lie, by Lisa Renee Jones.

I think I rolled my eyes way too many times for me to say I enjoyed this book. My (probably unfair and vapid) complaint is how completely self obsessed the main character was. Every two sentences, it seemed, were about whether someone in the story did, or didn't like her. It was annoying, and distracted from the story.

The story was overall okay, I just really struggled to buy in at all.

Read this book a couple years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It kept me guessing, I love trying to solve a mystery before the reader is let in. It’s a little bit of a slow burn and predictable which I don’t mind. Some parts are fast paced . I’ve enjoyed every Lisa Renee book I’ve read.

Poetic justice, indeed.

Lisa Renee Jones is the queen of...what just happened, did I read that right!?! And in LRJ fashion, A Perfect Lie is a complex web of lies, truths, and what just happened.

While they say the truth will set you free, I think in this case it's death. Hailey is the grim reaper and an incredible narrator on her journey for truth. Her facts, her fiction,  and her lies all tell a story. Leading the reader on a ride they can't stop, won't stop until the hit the end!

I enjoyed reading A Perfect Lie. The storyline was easy to follow as were the well-crafted characters.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

This one was a struggle to start, I started it about 4 or 5 times but the back and forth between a journal what seemed like a journal) in the present and the past. And I think even after now finishing the book it's part of the reason I didn't love this one.

I am a huge Lisa Renee Jones fan, there isn't a book I haven't loved or devoured by her, well until this one. This one had a really great story that kept me in suspense and engaged, but the flipping back and forth caused me to actually want and need to put the book down and do something else. I found myself at times wanting to know more but would get to the point of the start of a new chapter where we would be back to the Journal / present part and would lose interest in reading.

I think the other factor is this one is that is was not really a romance, more just a mystery read cause you never really knew who the love interest was in the story. I went into this one thinking it was a romance and I think focused on figuring out who the main guy was going to be and it kept me from enjoying the story a bit more.

Overall still well written, minus the flipping back and forth, and good story line that was interesting to read, but just left me not fully satisfied. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either, just indifferent.

I loved this book. It really captured my interest from the first page. Its written in the first person and she is one twisted young woman. I loved her :-)
Lisa Renee Jones has a very creative mind and her words flow nicely on the pages. I could actually picture this whole book in my head, playing it like a move as I read.
Highly recommend!

Hailey Anne Monroe isn't a politician, but she's close. She is the future First Daughter. She can play the game better than anyone, because that's what she has to do, it's what her father taught her. So when her best friend goes missing after a night at a bar and Hailey has no recollection of barely any of it, she has to play the game good because she knows there's something wrong, she just has to find out what, before it's too late.

This book was totally different to what I was expecting. I'm talking not even in the same ballpark of what I was expecting. It didn't turn out to be a bad thing though. The synopsis tells you a little bit, I'm talking, the barest, minimal bit, about the story and it's not until the end that you can sort of look at it and go "Oh yeah, I guess it did explain what the story was about, kind of". The narrative is odd, and it took me a little bit to get used to it, but once I fell into a rhythm with it, I thought it was a really clever way to tell the story. At the beginning of each chapter, there is a portion of the narrative told in Hailey's first person perspective, and it's actually her narrating the story in hindsight. The story she is telling has already happened and she is telling it to us which makes up the main body of all the chapters. I can't recall ever coming across a story being told this way, and I think it was incredibly clever and it did the story justice being written in such a way.

This story has a great deal to do with politics, in that, Hailey's father is preparing to run for President of the USA, but it's not boring or political, if that makes sense. It's important because this event is the reason behind who Hailey has become and how she has dealt, or not dealt, with things that have happened in her life and how it has shaped her. I'll admit, I didn't love her character, she doesn't come across very approachable, but she does come across very real. She is incredibly flawed and dare I say, broken, and was just all around a wonderfully written character that even though I didn't like very much, I was rooting for her the whole way. There wasn't a great deal of character development for her through this story, but I feel like it was still great because we were being set up and shown that she would develop after the story, in other words, this wasn't the part where she changed, this was the precursor to that change, what lead to it. The other characters were well written and we were fantastic in fleshing out the cast, they all had distinctive voices and I hated most of them haha.

The story was well thought out and well written, though I will admit, I had worked out virtually straight away one of the things that wasn't revealed until later. Too much emphasis was put on certain phrases and such that it was basically a glaring red light saying "IT'S ME!", while this didn't ruin the story for me, it would have been nice to experience the surprise the way it was intended. The explanation behind the blackouts is alluded to, but we never actually got concrete confirmation that it was why it happened. I'm not sure if this was done deliberately to leave it up to the readers imagination or not, or whether, towards the end of the story, there was something that we were meant to read between the lines for. So in short, I'm kind of left with some questions. The pacing was a little slow to begin with, but picked up once things started happening, however, it dropped off again around halfway through, and I honestly can't say why, it just felt like it started to drag a little. Then the ending came up suddenly in a big rush, though it didn't feel overly rushed, everything just started happening at once.

All in all, this was an interesting mystery/thriller/suspense and I thoroughly enjoyed it, the writing style was interesting and I found the MC to be beautifully flawed, all I can say is, I'm glad my father never wanted to run in politics, it sounds exhausting.

This book had a lot of potential, but lacked the follow through. It had the set up to be a great political theater, but some parts felt rushed and did not give a lot of detail. It felt like a Lifetime movie.

This was a really good read from Lisa Renee Jones. It was written in the first person and held me gripped, clinging to every word from the very beginning. This story begins in the present with Hailey Anne Monroe, daughter of former Presidential candidate Thomas Frank Munroe speaking to us, tell us her story, We learn that up until now she was told how to live, every move was instructed, directed, preparing her for life as the daughter of the President of the United States of America. Her own voice was silenced, her only form of allowed expression being painting, but now that her father too is dead, she has the freedom to speak as she wishes. The story then skips to the past where Hailey continues to tell her tale, also in the present, but she is now telling her tale many years previous. It look a little while to get used to the different present tenses but once I did I sailed through this book. It was good, well written and her style suited this story very well. Lisa Renee Jones has a clever mind, a good way with words and a creative style. Her twists and turns drew me in in an effort to figure out Hailey's story. This is a thriller quite unlike any others I've previously read. It's a really good read. I highly recommend it.

For those of you out there like me who were told that you have choices, when you never had one single choice that was your own. For those of you out there who were, who are, judged for decisions you’ve made that were directed by your destiny, not by the façade of choices. The irony of the story within this story is how one person’s predisposed destiny can impact, influence, and even change the lives of those around him or her. How one destiny ties to another destiny. I am Hailey Anne Monroe. I’m twenty-eight years old. An artist, who found her muse on the canvas because I wasn’t allowed to have friends or even keep a journal. And yes, if you haven’t guessed by now, I’m that Hailey Anne Monroe, daughter to Thomas Frank Monroe, the man who was a half-percentage point from becoming President of the United States. If you were able to ask him, he’d probably tell you that I was the half point. But you can’t ask him, and he can’t tell you. He’s dead. They’re all dead and now I can speak. And no, this is not a political thriller. I hate politics and so should you.

Lisa Renee Jones had written a great gripping thriller with A Perfect Lie. This one will keep you turning pages and wanting to know how things will end for Hailey. Lisa Renee Jones definitely has the knack for writing these types of stories.

Hailey has been groomed by her Presidential candidate father, Thomas Frank Monroe, to make things look good in the public eye. He wants everyone to think that they have a great little happy family. In truth, there are things that Thomas has to cover up for Hailey all the time behind the public eye. Will this be the undoing of their "perfect" little life?

You will not regret picking up this one and reading it. Just be prepared for some mind games. Great job Lisa Renee Jones.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book!

One person's destiny is determined by so many others. Hailey has been told what to do her whole life & everything seems perfect. Her father was set to become President but didn't. When Hailey's friend is missing she wants to help find her. The past needs to be looked at to help with the present. I enjoyed this book a lot.

3 1/2 Stars
Hailey Anne Monroe, future first daughter and one of America's favorite sweethearts. She's well groomed, has the right friends and the right education, but there's something missing for Hailey...parts of her memory. She knows she blames herself, she knows her father blames her, but what led to the blame is hazy. Up until now Hailey has done all she can to remain out of the spotlight and be the perfect daughter, but an opportunity to live a little comes and it tips everything off its axis again. When Hailey's friend goes missing it's up to her to locate her missing memories, no matter the cost.

I guess this is a case of it's not you, it's me. I have so many friends who enjoyed this book, it just wasn't my personal favorite from LRJ. I felt like Hailey was a little flat for me, her backbone appeared only at the end and it felt like things just happened. I needed the suspense to feel realistic, to feel like it was something she was fighting against and fearful of, rather than just floating through. Plus, the explanations for some of the events just didn't feel real, it made the book feel like well...completely fictional, rather than being a story that could actually happen. It made it difficult for me to picture, for me to feel in character. I think had the plot been more believable and the pace been a bit faster I would've been more of a fan of it.

While A Perfect Lie was a miss for me, I will remain a one-click fan of Lisa Renee Jones.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read A Perfect Lie in exchange for my honest review.

This was a nice easy read. The storyline kept me engrossed, but I felt some of it was repetitive. The ending wasn't a huge shocker you could see what was coming. Overall it was an enjoyable book.

You know what I like about a book of this genre? a mixture of suspense, interesting twists, lies, intrigues and emotions.

Guess what? "A Perfect Lie" has all that and a little more! Hailey is amazing, the flashbacks were very well written and managed to make me so curious that I could not stop reading!

A great book, I tell everyone! Come on, buy it !!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ReadNow option. I really enjoyed this LRJ book, mystery thriller suits her very well. Hailey was the perfect h in every way. When she had to be, she was the perfect model daughter and yet deep inside she stayed true to her passions and wants for the future. I anticipated the plot but that twist at the end did get me and I loved it.

In this story you meet Hailey Monroe, an artist and daughter to the almost President of the United States. She is caught up in political intrigue, mystery and lies. Now that she knows the truth and everyone is gone she can tell her story. This was a neat little suspense and mind twist. An enjoyable read that I recommend.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

"I've learned to see the glass as half full, not half empty, but most of the time it's still filled with blood."
This book was one of the first I was approved for on Netgalley. To be honest, I requested it because while in my preferred "mystery and thriller" genre I'm not usually a fan of books with a theme of "politics". But the cover was mysterious, and I thought, heck I am embarking on this new journey might as well try some new stuff. And I figured I'd be denied.

While there is some "political" themes, this is for sure not a political book. A Perfect Lie follows the daughter of a presidential candidate who after the death of her best friend, begins to have her life crash around her. She doesn't know what is truth and what is a lie anymore. Her father cares more about his presidential campaign then his daughters well being.

I love Lisa Renee Jones writing style! I think this is one of the books I read the quickest and a lot of that was due to Ms. Jones' writing style. She keeps you engaged, and I really enjoyed that the story was being told by Hailey Anne Monroe. I also really enjoyed the twists and turns the story took. Just when I thought I had it figured out something else would happen.

Thank you to to Lisa Renne Jones, Julie Patra Publishing/Weapenry, and Netgalley for the advanced copy for my Kindle.
