The Chestnut Man is a prodigious thriller. It's really an extraordinary debut from Soren Sveistrup. The pacing is impeccable. The characters are engaging. The plot threads are wonderfully woven together as the book races towards a utterly satisfying conclusion. One can only hope we see more of Hess and Thulin in the future-- in print or on the screen. Bravo!

This books was amazing. It was SO good. I could NOT put it down. All 500+ pages of it. I had NO idea who was behind the killings until the killer was revealed at the very end. The writing was fantastic. The characters were brilliant--so much depth to each and every one of the them and the story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time from page one. For some reason, Swedish mysteries, at least the ones that I have read, are so much better than many of the American ones that I have read and this one is a shining example. Every detail is so precise. The author leaves nothing to the imagination. One of the best, most gruesome bloody murder mysteries I have ever read. I will definitely look for more from this author! Do not miss this book!!!!

I love this genre, it is raw, gritty, and character driven. I must say this one did not disappoint, I did have it figured out pretty early but getting there was a great read. I will be watching for more of your work.

Thank you for allowing me to read for

“The Chesnut Man” by Soren Sveistrub is a thriller/police procedural set in Denmark. The author is touted as the creator of “The Killing” so I was eager to read it.

The plot concerns the police investigation of a serial killer that leaves behind handmade chest men at the crime scene.

I had a hard time with this book. The storyline is okay, but the violence seems gratutious and the plot meandering.

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for this arc.

I got up from the bed yesterday morning, fed the dog, made some coffee, had a bowl of Cheerios and opened this one up. A little intimidating at first -- it had 130 chapters! Okay, that should make it easier to put down here and there to deal with life (dog-walking, laundry, housework, grocery shopping meals... you know, Saturday stuff).

So I started reading and reading and reading and reading. I had another bowl of Cheerios for lunch and just left the dog in the backyard. The laundry stayed piled up. The house is still dirty. There's no fresh food in the refrigerator. I only slowed my reading twice, once when the little "low battery" notice popped up on my Kindle. I stopped to detangle my longest USB cable and plugged it in so I could keep reading. Second slow down was due to the obnoxious and noisy dog wanting her dinner. Nearly 12 hours from starting the book, I was finally able to put it down. I had another bowl of Cheerios and called it dinner.

My butt is still numb, but I've quit drooling on myself and I think my eyes can focus well enough to post a review now.... twenty-six hours after I started reading.

This was a GREAT read for me. The story was wonderfully complex and convoluted. All the characters fully developed and most were relatable. I found the main characters, Naia Thulin and Mark Hess, both intriguing and fascinating. The political and social themes of the story were deftly woven. The author is apparently the creator of some TV program I've never heard of, but I do hope he keeps writing novels.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were well developed. It had a very interesting and unexpected twist. I was sure I had this book all figured out but then it twisted into something entirely different. The ending is totally awesome. I would be interested in reading more of this author. My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
