"Work it, girl" is a new series of empowering biographies featuring modern women.
These biographies are short yet detailed: that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
This one is about J.K. Rowling, one of most influential women in the literary (and not only) world.
Here, we follow her life since she was a little avid reader 'till her success thanks to the "Harry Potter"series.
I'm a potterhead and I'll always be, but I have to admit that I knew little about Rowling's life. So, this book was definetely a good way to know more about this incredible way in an entertaining way thanks to the writing style and the amazing illustrations.
Despite of all the difficulties, she never gave up and kept fighting for her dream to become a writer. I think reading about her resilience may have a good influence on kids, and also adults.

This book was full of great and insight for information but overall I think the Illustrations is what is going to make everyone truly fall in love with this book! The advice and question are another bonus that I adored!

I love how women's histories are being made available to young readers. When I was in sixth grade I ate through the biography section of our small school library. (It was two book cases, and I must have read nearly every one of those books. It is so inspiring to find out where people came from.

This book is marvelous. Short chapters. Large pictures, interspersed with things that happened to her in her life.

I really love the idea and purpose behind the book<i> J. K. Rowling </i>by Caroline Moss and illustrated by Sinam Erkas. It's an illustrated biography detailing pieces of J. K. Rowling's life and her journey toward becoming a published author and one of the most influential people in the world. Her words have reached billions and her story is deeply loved by a great many people. And Rowling began her journey much like many others had, as a young person with a love of books and a love for writing. Achieving her dream was not something that was presented to her nor was it easily achieved. But the big takeaway from this small children's chapter book is the fact that it tells young writers to never give up on their dreams of becoming an author. And, even more, it sends the message that, if you work at your dream and don't let hardships keep you from it, you can achieve great things. And I think this is an important thing for kids to realize. Dreams don't land in everyone's laps and it really does come down to putting in the time and the effort to get yourself there.

One of the things I loved about this book was that it included quotes from J. K. Rowling, herself. Peppered throughout the illustrations and in between the pages of text are large print quotes from interviews and the Harry Potter novels themselves. I think this is an incredible biography for kids to read, especially as it goes over the life and achievements of a woman who is likely to be or have been an incredible influence on their lives due to the widespread popularity of Harry Potter. It's a great way to motivate young writers and introduce the concept of biographies to younger kids. And while I would never say that J. K. Rowling is a perfect person and I am very aware of some of the faults for which she has been criticized, I do deeply appreciate this book and what it offers to young writers and aspiring authors.

The Harry Potter books are one of the most enduring series in my Media Center. This creative and informative biography will certainly enhance it. We learn of the hardships Rowling encountered in her life but the message is certainly clear about how to turn those disadvantages into advantages. The qualities of perseverance and dedication to her craft prevailed.
The illustrations are unique and beautifully presented. The "10 Key Lessons" section at the book's conclusion provide an oversight of everything that is important to Rowling's life. I especially found the "Answer Questions" useful and inviting. Moss also provided a section on "Further Reading" which will be appreciated by those numerous readers wanting to learn even more.
This is a wonderful biography that will undoubtedly delight Harry Potter fans.

I really enjoyed this book, I believe it's more oriented to teens than children. I loved how they told Joanne's story and felt very inspiring.
I love Harry Potter, so I wasn't unaware of Joanne struggles, but having this book and the ilustrationa made it a really nice tribute.
I was able to learn about her Charity's which was something I didn't know.

J.K. Rowling is part of a new series called, "Work It, Girl", which highlights influential and trailblazing women. I had the extreme pleasure to read this edition and I cannot say enough good things about it. This would be a perfect book for any young reader (fan of Harry Potter or not). This biography had fabulous illustrations and graphic designs, which highlighted influential quotes from Jo.

The lessons Jo's life have in it are what our children need to hear. Our lives will not be perfect (no matter how hard we try) and failure is inevitable. It is what we do with that failure that sets us apart and teaches us just who we can be. Another valuable lesson taught is to be humble and make sure to give back to our communities and causes we believe in once we are able to.

I can't wait to buy this for my daughter and nieces to add to their libraries!

I particularly liked this book as it is written with a good depth of detail which is ideal for upper KS2 classes. The chaptered format makes it a longer, more engaging read and the papercut style of illustrations are visually attractive too.

Bright and colourful, illustrations are wonderful and fit well. Inspiring for young children especially as it includes helpful tips for budding authors. A lovely book that will appeal to kids as one of they’re heroes

The information within this book is detailed and well set out, but it is the illustrations that truly bring this book to life and make it a must have for any young one’s shelf.
I also loved the top advice and the questions to get young writers thinking about their future dreams.
