WOW. WOW. WOW. Let me just say that I enjoyed Dance of Thieves last year so much! Mary did an amazing job in introducing the world and politics of the Ballengers as well as the epic sloooooow burn between Kazi and Jase!

Book 2 was amazing. This book was filled with action + political introgue + scheming + betrayal + romance and i just couldn’t get ENOUGH. literally that ending made me cry it was so beautiful! I highly suggest this duology. Now im off to read the Remnant Chronicles 🤩

I really should stop being surprised at how good Mary Pearson’s writing is, but every time I read something of hers I’m blown away. Her prose is clear and concise, but is as beautiful as a work of art. Her character development is incredible and the world she’s created in this series and in the Remnant Chronicles is so vivid and stunning. Vow of thieves is a seductive adventure about enduring love. It has high stakes, all sorts of twists and turns, and is a satisfying ending (maybe? Maybe not?) to this duology.

Thank you to Henry Holt & Co and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this eArc.

This book wrecked me but in a good way! I had anxiety, heart palpitations and I even cried a few times! Was I expecting any of that? NO.

Vow of Thieves continues right after the last chapter and harrowing cliff-hanger from Dance of Thieves. Kazi and Jase return to Tor’s Watch and what greets them is unexpected. From then on, it was non-stop worrying and praying on my part. The world-building is lush as usual and the story is written so well I was wondering if Kazi would get out of this alive. After all she had been through, Kazi needed to make it out alive, she deserved some happiness.

At each turn something thwarted Kazi, but this girl has a brain on her like no other. And her fighting skills are just so good, she’s my hero. I love her heart, her penchant for riddles, her skill for thievery, the survival instincts she’s honed because of her past and her will to not die when it seems like hope is lost, “die tomorrow“. Kazi inspires me.

Jase and Kazi together are a dream team. Their love is deep but not so consuming that they can’t do things without one another. They weren’t even together in a good chunk of the book, but in spirit, they were pushing one another to keep going. It was all the things I love in a romance between two characters. They are strong together as a couple, but strong also even torn apart. I was swooning all over their relationship, their teasing and banter. I love them. Speaking of this duo – the book once again is told in dual POV. The story flows so well between the two characters and builds up tension where it should.

Then there is the supporting cast who is always outstanding. The villain was unpredictable, devious, obsessive, and cunning. Some of my favorite characters reappear in this book, Kazi’s best friends Wren and Synové. These three young ladies make a fierce trio. We also see cameos from characters in Mary E. Pearson other series, The Remnant Chronicles which made me want to reread the series again!

I could go on and on about this book, but I don’t want to spoil anything. It is perfection in my eyes. I’ve read very few duologies, but I notice that it’s becoming the trend and personally I’m starting to love it more than trilogies. It keeps the story-telling tight, whereas a trilogy sometimes is one book too long, with a weak finish. If duologies are written like this Dance of Thieves series, then sign me up for more of them!

I fell in love with Kazi, her friends, Jase and his crazy, loving family. It ended beautifully. I hope this isn’t the last story in the Remnant world. I want more adventures set in this world or any world that Mary E. Pearson creates. Vow of Thieves is the perfect sequel to an epic series.

*** 4.5 out of 5 starts ***
You sigh; you gasp; your breathless through it all. It's a story that clinches at your young heart as Kazi and Jase fight through for love. It's the embodiment of what young love and adventure is. The anticipation and allure of the world-building, just adds to the twists and harrowing turns that you get from this plot. Beautifully written and emotionally complex characters will leave you crying for more.

*** I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.***

I loved the first book in the series and fell in love with these characters all over again! After the ending of the first book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second one! This book delivered on all of my expectations and so much more. It was fast-paced, intriguing, and a book that I want to reread over and over again!

This book was a great follow up to Dance of Thieves! It covered so much, the story itself was interesting, the characters intriguing, and the world interesting (I wish I knew more about how the world got that way in the first place!!). I enjoyed the story from start to finish. Definite add to my library!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group and Henry Holt and Co. (BYR) for the Advance Reader Copy Vow of Thieves (Dance of Thieves #2) by Mary E. Pearson (writer extraordinaire!!!) in exchange for an honest review. I am so thankful to have received the first book in this duology, Dance of Thieves and NOW I am honored to have read this second awesome romance/fantasy! Teens will LOVE this series (I also recommend they read The Remnant Chronicles series too) there is so much moving this story forward, Jase and Kazi are strong protagonists; they complement each other, love each other deeply, and are their best selves when they are together. From page one the plot moves quickly; excitement thrilled this reader as I rooted for Kazi to outwit the overwhelming evil forces that have imprisoned her. She must constantly call up her “thief” mentality to battle King Montegue and his henchmen to valiantly to save Jase’s family. The settings were stark and also beautiful with Jase and Kazi’s journey to Tor’s Watch holding so much hope (for Jase) and fear (for Kazi). All of the characters (both good and evil) are strong under Pearson’s talented hands; we can hate them one minute but they also redeem themselves too. There was so much political backstabbing and family drama but there was always loyalty and history propelling the Ballenger family to never give up hope. I loved this book; did not want it to end; but oh what an ending! Highly recommended!

This was a satisfying conclusion to the series. I thought the pacing was great and I read it in one sitting. I did thoroughly enjoy how our main characters did not turn on each other (in other similar stories the main characters would have thought the worst of each other in there situations) so that was refreshing. Can't wait to see what is next from the author!

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for this early copy! I was lucky enough to win this egalley. I went into this uncertain because I struggled with book one but I found myself completely engrossed in this world and with these great characters! It is a full 5 star read for me.

What I Liked:

Romance. I felt like Pearson managed to capture my romantically resistance heart this time around. I found myself almost in tears a few times because of what was happening with Kazi and Jase.

Characters. Kazi was amazing in this second book. I loved her in the first book as well but she shined in this one! I found myself emotionally invested in the novel because of how much I started to care for Kazi and Jase.

Action/Intensity/Plot. I flew through the novel because the pacing was well-done. It did not feel like any part of it dragged for me. I kept turning page after page because I needed to know what was going to happen to these characters.

Writing Style. This is the second series from Pearson that I've read and one of my favorite books by her. I'm becoming more and more a fan of her writing style with each new novel she writes. I found her prose beautiful and her characters well-written.

I recommend checking out this well-written and hard to put down duology!

After reading and devouring Dance of Thieves, I started Vow as soon as I got it in my greedy hands.

I love love love Kazi and Jase. I love how they’re strong on their own, but even better and stronger together. I love their banter and sweet swoons and basically everything between them.

Plot wise, man...I wasn’t ready at all. This is a roller coaster of kissing and fighting and stabbing and explosions and treachery. Throw in a couple of surprising reveals and character appearances and I didn’t know what to do with myself.

Overall, it was a phenomenal story that was equal parts maddening and satisfying. Huge thanks to Mary for these amazing books.

**Huge thanks to Henry Holt for providing the arc free of charge**

This continued story of Kari really got to me, She goes through so much and all while trying to not disappoint her family. This book was so well written but a bit confusing due to not remembering all that happened in the first book. So I’m currently rereading Dance of Thieves so I can go back over Vow of Thieves to get a better understanding. After that I can better update my review.

Vow of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson is a riveting sequel to Dance of Thieves. The slow-burning relationship between Jace and Kazi is explored through trying hardships and life-threatening stakes. Pearson is so masterful at weaving complex plots with twists at every corner and heart-stopping reveals. She makes you root for the characters, and there were several scenes that brought a tear to my eye. If you are a fan of any of her previous books, you won't want to miss the continuation of the series with Vow of Thieves!

This is the continuing story of Kazi and Jase (the follow up to Dance of Thieves)

Mary E. Pearson is a fabulous story teller and I get so absorbed in reading her books. She is so descriptive, you feel as if you are actually there.

In the absence of Jase, a new ruler has taken over and he is not who anyone expected. Jase and Kazi are each wounded and separated and spend most of the book thinking the other is dead, but hoping they are still alive.

Kazi tries to prove her loyalty to the Ballenger's but at a high cost.

Just go and read the books!

So exciting to immerse myself again in the Remnant World! Ever since The Kiss of Deception, I’ve felt that Pearson works the dual POV like no one can. She’s so effective at using it to throw out little twists at each transition, propelling the story forward and making the read such an adventure. Kazi and Jase are finally together, eager to return to Tor’s Watch, although a bit unsure of what kind of reception they will receive. Nothing, however, prepares them for what they walk into. Kazi once again relies on her years as a street thief and her love for Jase to get her through. Jase sidelined by grievous injuries manages to get it together in time to do his part. Justice is nicely served, allowing them to recover all that has been lost. It’s not so much about the plot as the deliciousness of it all. Is anything else going to happen in the Remnant World? I want to know!

Kazi and Jase's second book begins right where the first book ends. They take you on another fabulous journey filled with twists and turns. Kazi and Jase are such great characters and it is so much fun to go on the journey with them.

The characters in the world of the Remnants are unforgettable! The writing and story lines pull you in and don't let go until the last page. This would be a great series to read this summer!

Mary Pearson has done it again! The Remnant Chronicles is one of my favorite series, but I think the Dance of Thieves duology usurps its predecessor. Same great world building, same wonderful prose, same well-developed and likeable (and deliciously unlikeable) characters, but I think the constancy of Kazi and Jace's relationship just barely inches out the love triangle among Lia, Rafe, and Kayden. I couldn't put Vow of Thieves down -- I was a grumpy librarian the next morning following my up-'til-3:30 evening. Vow of Thieves follows the foreshadowed trajectory of betrayal and hopelessness, but there is always our courageous, unshakeable, and profoundly committed Kazi to keep us cheering. She is one of my all-time favorite female protagonists and I love that Mary Pearson stays true with a heroine who is just at-her-core virtuous, even though she is an expert thief. I also love that Pearson doesn't try to overlay her story with a political agenda or a nod to current movements. She just tells a timeless story filled with love, family, forgiveness, and redemption. No doubt, this beauty is joining her sister in my YA library.

When Jase and Kazi return to Tor's Watch bearing good news from the queen, they are dismayed to find things are not quite how they left them. They are soon separated by a sneak attack, the kingdom is reduced to rubble, the Ballengers are in hiding, old allies are now enemies, and a fool is behind it all. Once again Ms. Pearson spins a web of intrigue, suspense, and betrayal that will once again have readers guessing who is really playing who.

I enjoyed watching Jase and Kazi's story unravel in "Dance of Thieves" and this sequel does not disappoint. It's the perfect blend of action, romance, intrigue, and wit!

I liked the intrigue and characters from the first book more so than the direction taken in this installment. It was hard to keep track of time and either these characters heal really quickly or this story took place over the course of a year. I'm not a fan of stories being tied up in a neat little bow at the end where everyone gets what they want and they all live happily ever after.
