A quote:
“…I’m normally the person who expects everything to function in a perfectly straight line.”
“The Second Chance Rancher”, by Kate Pearce, features a deliciously direct, literal and bigmouthed hero, whose honesty and the tendency to put his foot in his mouth are unusual in romantic heroes.
Jackson Lymond is a bit different in terms of social skills and it’s endearing to watch him trying to do the right thing. And, of course, he’s hot and sexy. But the “happy-go-lucky, goofy Jackson Lymond” harbors some secrets and hidden pain and he’s trying to find himself after ending a career where he had to make life-or-death decisions.
I enjoyed watching this different hero act in a context of deception where he managed to keep a refreshing authenticity.
I found the heroine’s life a bit too complicated and hard to believe, but I appreciated how the couple worked through the external duplicity, yet being honest with each other.
There are lots of characters, some from previous Kate Pearce’s books, and an interesting subplot of a small, tight-knit ranching community fighting to maintain its authenticity and roots.
The story held my interest and some of its characters – for example, Jake Magnusson – made me wish for a story of their own.

This book is the beginning of a spin off from the author’s Morgan Ranch series. We now get a chance to spend time with the members of the surrounding ranches. This time the story belongs to Jackson Lymond and Daisy Miller.
Jackson is back in town after leaving the Air Force. A departure that has left emotional and psychological scars. Daisy has been back in town for a couple of years, after a burnout in Silicone Valley.
They are attracted to each other and when Daisy needs a fake boyfriend to cover up her latest endeavor, they decide to keep things “no strings attached”. But the best laid plans do not always work. Each keeping their true feelings hidden.
It was a sweet story where we get a chance to see how the members of the previous stories are doing as well as the potential of many stories for those of the Miller family.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Kate Pearce brings us back to Morgantown with Jackson Lymond returning to the family ranch after leaving the Air Force. He spots the local bartender and decides to take his mind off of things with her. It is pretty funny how fast that idea gets deflated especially when he comes in contact with florist Daisy Miller. It was an enjoyable flirtation between Jackson and Daisy as they figure out what they want to be to each other while maneuvering around family and friends. It was nice revisiting Morgantown and catching up with familiar characters.

Kate Pearce brings us the first book in The Millers of Morgan Valley series. Daisy has five older brothers so I am looking forward to reading about the rest of her family members and how life will turn out for them. I enjoyed The Morgan Ranch Series so I know I will love meeting her brothers.

I voluntarily rad and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for this privilege.

I was already laughing and shaking my head in the first chapter. Jackson is not the brightest at the beginning, and he repeatedly puts his foot in his mouth with Daisy. I did like that he said what he was thinking, and he wasn’t afraid to tell the truth. However, he also can’t keep his mouth shut and keep a secret. That is a big issue with Daisy, especially because she’s leading a double life.
Jackson and Daisy were such a fun couple to read about. Jackson is helping his brother Cauy at the ranch after leaving the military. Daisy seems to be a simple florist. They fit together perfectly, although they each made plenty of mistakes along the way. The both had their own issues and several obstacles to get through. There were a couple twists I didn’t see coming in the book, and I was on the edge of my seat. Once I started the book, I did not put it down until it was finished. I just had to keep reading, and I couldn’t put it down without constantly wondering what was going to happen. I would say this book is not a standalone, and you should read the other books in the series first. There is just so much you wouldn’t understand if you read this book alone. I highly recommend reading this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.

Jackson and Daisy were a fun couple to read about. They were both denying feelings and trying to fool others into believing different things that they were beginning to have a hard time realizing what lie they were telling that day.

The part that I enjoyed the most was even though they were trying to fool everyone with their relationship, the only time they were really truthful was when they were together. They were explosive together and some times their temper flared but what I liked most was when they would calm down they would seek the other out and apologize.

The only part of this book that I didn't get was Daisy's need to keep the secret from her family. It was alluded to a few times in the book but it would have made more sense if we could understand her more and what she meant when she had burnout and had to come home.

I want to give this book 10 stars!!! I absolutely loved it. It has all the warmth of family and all the issues loving some one brings. If the rest of this series is as good as this one, it will make for one fantastic series!! I loved that all the characters from the Morgan Ranch were included in this story, love how they are all connected.

The story of Jackson and Daisy.

He is just back in town on the ranch after leaving the airforrce, and she is back in town running a florist after a burnout led to her leaving her tech job.

Daisy doesn't want to commit, she is keeping secrets and her life is busy, but soon starts a fling with Jackson. Soon they both want more but will they admit it to each other?

Entertaining read that keeps you interested.

Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series

****The Second Chance Rancher is a cute, flirty, sexy story about a cowboy with secrets, in search of a girlfriend and a girl with secrets in search of a cover so her 5 brothers don’t find out about her second IT job. Florist Daisy and rancher Jackson enter into a fake relationship...that he very much would like to become real. Daisy doesn’t want a commitment, but soon realizes she would like relationship benefits. Jackson, meanwhile, is dealing with a family drama of his own. His brother, Cauy was the sole inheritor of the family ranch, an occurrence that left Jackson conflicted for reasons I won’t reveal. Second chances also include family. Jackson is an interesting character; Air Force intelligence veteran who comes across to this reader as clueless about relationships. There are a lot of supporting characters for a reader new to this writer to keep track of, but since this is book 1 in a series, it’s safe to assume the author has stories about them percolating, while others were covered in a previous series. The writing is top notch and the story moves along nicely. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Highly recommend.
