A truly unique storyline. Someone is killing Amish women, young ladies trying to decide between joining the church and separating. One special detective can help, Joe Troyer has a connection to the Amish. While he works to solve murders his past is threatening to change everything. This story was more than just a murder mystery, but a romance, a healing love story. I learned a bit about the Amish and give Price kudos for doing her research, lots of respect for this community. My copy came through Netgalley, review voluntarily written.

I really enjoyed this story. The story itself is a good interesting tale, however, there is a HUGE amount of swearing and much of it is sexually explicit. Not my cup of tea. It actually ruined it for me. I liked the story, but I won't be reading it again.

Vow of Silence was good, I wasn't so sure when i first started but overall I found myself really enjoying the story that was full of twists and turns. I always find it harder to write reviews on mystery suspense romance, because of the spoilers. The writing was good, I could follow it along quite well and i enjoyed the romance and the setting it was set in. look forward to another one like this soon.

Vow of Silence
Melynda Price

Vow of Silence is a romantic mystery from author, Melynda Price.

Detective Josiah “Joe” Troyer was raised Amish but was shunned by the community when he left to live in English “non-Amish” society. He’s forced into heading the investigation of the murders of three Amish teen girls. Hannah Adams is the sister of the third victim, Cassandra Belier, and Joe’s former girlfriend. Because Joe left Hannah with seemingly no reason, the tension is very high between them. They try to ignore it, because Joe needs her help communicating with the families of the murdered girls. The Amish are not allowed to interact with Josiah “Joe” because of his shunning, which makes it difficult for him to fully investigate the murders. Joe and Hannah are battling the danger posed by a killer along with the danger posed by their desires.

Vow of Silence is a true mystery. The plot twists are surprising. The characterization is excellent. Price’s writing style is fresh, and the dialogue draws you in and holds your attention. This novel is engaging and enjoyable. I give it 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all fans of the mystery genre. Be aware that there is explicit language and sexual content that might be offensive to some readers.

But I was wrong. Lots of twists and turns before the surprise ending. I want to thank NetGalley for the chance to read this wonderful book for an unbiased opinion.

This is a romantic suspense with plenty of differences! For a start it is a second chance romance between an Amish couple who were sweethearts eight years ago but haven't seen each other since he left. However, don't assume that because it involves members of the Amish community it will be a very Christian, moral/rule following story - it isn't!

He's a Homicide Detective, Josiah Troyer, who is now known as Joe and he has no desire to return to his Amish community, knowing he'll be shunned there and he'll also dread seeing the love of his life, Hannah, with her husband. However, fate has other plans and when a sickening serial killer seems to be targeting Amish young women he is needed by the FBI to help lead their investigations. When he also recognises one of the victims is Hannah's younger sister, Joe can't refuse to go . . . and reconsider his past and his possible future, if only he can catch the killer first!

This is an intriguing, dramatic story with well developed characters and plenty of possible perpetrators to keep you guessing. The plot is full of twists, turns - and red herrings to misdirect you. The romance between Josiah and Hannah was, for me, unexpectedly steamy - definitely not what I'd anticipated from an Amish romance! Her son is delightful and how he and Joe connect is adorable. Many aspects of this story involve Joe endeavouring to break through community taboos in order to protect other young women from the serial killer. I'd definitely like to know more about what he does in future and hope this is the start of a series. If you enjoy second chance romantic suspense, I highly recommend you read this book!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

A wonderful story about making amends to your past. The suspense is delightful. The identity of the killer will catch you unawares. Josiah has to return to his roots to find himself. He is passionate and meticulous in his search for justice. Hannah is innocent and good. She is hurt and wants to be healed. The author creates two beautiful characters and a story that makes them shine.

This book grabbed my attention from the very first page until the very end. I only put it down long enough to grab some sleep before going back to it. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I discovered that I was wrong and had to change course. This book was definitely a page turner and I loved every minute of it. It offered and interesting look not only into the mind and actions of a serial killer, but, also into the Amish community and some other traditions.
I enjoyed getting to know Josiah, Hannah, Eli, Dexter, Sam and Ryker. I wonder if this will be the start of a series, but for now, I believe this is just a stand alone novel. This book was full of lots of drama, surprises, love, forgiveness and redemption.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've read several books about the Amish, but none by this author. Josiah Troyer left the Amish religion and community eight years ago. His heartbroken girlfriend, Hannah, never understood why. Now there is a serial killer targeting young, pretty Amish women. The authorities are unable to get much help from the Amish community, as they are secretive, and don't trust the 'English' (non Amish) world.
Josiah is now a respected law enforcement officer, and the FBI contacts him. They think he may gain Amish trust and helpful information from them because he grew up Amish. Josiah tries to tell them this won't be the case, as he is shunned, and no Amish are supposed to talk to him. He is also unwilling to return and face Hannah, the love of his life, whom he left with no explanation, and whom he knows married someone else.
I enjoyed this book so much! The characters are very likeable and well developed, and the identity of the murderer is not easy to figure out. The information about Amish life and practices is also very interesting. There is some moderately graphic consensual sex in the book, which is easily skipped over if you choose.
I definitely look forward to reading more books by Melynda Price! I am grateful to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read an ARC of Vow of Silence. This is my honest review of a very good mystery!

Vow of Silence is the first book I've read by this author and it's one I really enjoyed. I typically don't pick up Amish stories, not for any particular reason, I just haven't. This one made me glad I chose it.

This is pretty close to equal parts a second-chance romance and a thriller. The main characters are well developed and I enjoyed learning about them and their back stories. The insight into the Amish community was also something that held my interest.

The mystery part was well done, leaving me guessing and always thinking I'd figured it out. For those that prefer cleaner romantic reads, there are a few sex scenes and they're probably a 3.5 out of a scale of 5 as to heat level so be warned. I didn't expect that and while I'm not a prude, I don't care to read that so I skimmed over those parts.

All in all, this was an enjoyable read and one that I've already recommended to people. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me an ARC at my request. My thoughts in this review are my own and freely given.

Vow of Silence is a terrific romantic suspense. Great plot that kept me on the edge of my seat. Suspense fans will not be disappointed.

I really liked this read. It was immediately swift and the storyline grabbed me right away. The author said a great job with character development and backstory, while weaving the current tale. She didn't spend too much time on any one past story, therefore she didn't sacrifice maintaining reader interest to pain the picture. It was such a good set up, making you think multiple people could be the villain so I wasn't 100% sure until the story confirmed it. I was really rooting for Josiah and Hannah, as well. This story was in similar vain to Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series which I love, so I knew that I'd like this almost right away. I don't think there will be a sequel...? But I'd read it, if there was. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for honest review; the opinions expressed are my own.

This is the first book I have ever read from this author, due to this I am not familiar with this authors writings or other books. I did assume because this was an amish book this was a christian book, so that being said that was my fault for assuming, so this is my review for this book.
This is NOT a Christian book. It’s starts off very sick and twisted. There is a lot of cursing through out. There is a lot of sex, so if you are looking for a good wholesome story this is not for you. That being said this story will have you guessing throughout the author keeps taking you down “rabbit” holes making you think one thing only to throw another in there and have you thinking another way. She literally has you guessing until almost the end. My heart broke for Eli and the loss he faced and the struggles he faced at such a young age, but I loved how Hannah and Joe had away of making him feel loved and wanted not with words but with actions in times when he was scared. Without giving anything away, Mills is a big part in the story but I seriously felt like I wanted to find him in real life and punch him he was so annoying. This book definitely has a ton suspense and leaves you on the edge of your seat if that’s what you are looking for, then this book won’t disappoint you there.

I love a good second-chance love story. Add to that a good ole’ fashioned whodunit that kept me guess the whole book through, and you’ve got storytelling gold!

Joe Troyer fled his Pennsylvania Amish roots and became a homicide detective in St. Paul, Minnesota. Eight years later, a serial murderer has him heading back to the life he left and the woman he loved and was going to marry.

Hannah is desperately trying to mend her shattered life. First her husband died (which, as an Amish woman, puts her in a precarious position), then her beloved younger sister was murdered. Now the man who left her behind and broke her heart has returned to figure out who is murdering young Amish girls.

I didn’t adequately expressed how much I LOVE second-chance romances. But I DO. SO MUCH. There’s something inherently romantic about continuing to pine for the one your heart yearns for. And there’s nothing more heartbreaking than feeling backed into a corner and having to make a choice to do something you really don’t want to do, especially when it hurts the one you love most. Being the one left behind is also heart-rending.

Of course, Joe could have just told Hannah what was going on...but then there wouldn’t have been a book!

At any rate, Vow of Silence had the perfect balance of thriller/suspense and romance, with fast-paced storytelling. I loved how the author dropped hints about why Joe left Hannah behind, but didn’t continuously waggle the unknown information in the reader’s face trying to insert additional mystery. I also loved how Hannah was forthcoming with her anger and didn’t hold it back.

And it isn’t very often an author can keep me guessing about who the bad guy is. It’s a hazard of reading SO MANY BOOKS. But I truly didn’t know who it was until just a couple pages before it was revealed. Hats off to Ms. Price for that!

This was my first Melynda Price book, and I’m definitely interested in reading more. I really enjoy reading romantic suspense - especially when the author gives the reader a story that has equal parts of both. Which is exactly what Ms. Price gives us in Vow of Silence. I don’t plan to be silent, though, about how much I enjoyed this book! 😁

I'm a fan of Melynda Price's writing and have been patiently waiting for her next release. I've never really dabbed my fingers in the thriller/mystery genre in romance but I'm glad I did. Vow of Silence was 100% thriller/mystery with a touch of romance that wasn't overwhelming, as in the sex scenes weren't obscene or overly written (thankfully!), and I enjoyed every page!

Vow of Silence takes place in what I'm assuming is present day, Amish community where our MC Police Detective Joe (f.k.a. Josiah, his given Amish name) Troyer, being tasked in assisting the FBI in the 'Barber' murders; 4 young Amish girls found strangled, raped and with their hair cut off. Joe hasn't been back to the Amish community in 8 long years, for the Amish community he once had called home, shunned him when he left (he left and built a life as an "Englisher" as the Amish call it, and works as a police detective), but circumstances (one of the victims is the young sister of his childhood sweetheart) has him making up his mind and the drive back to catch the killer before more young Amish girls are murdered. Not even 24 hours there and not only does the whole Amish community know who he is and why he's there, but his childhood sweetheart, Hannah, that he was forced to leave behind makes an appearance and the flame he thought was doused from 8 years ago, has been re-ignited at full force. We join Joe, with Hannah's help, in their mission to find the killer who is either an "Englisher" or one of them; thrilling to the very end, Vow of Silence does keep you guessing who did it and that's something I appreciate from a good book.

Melynda Price must be a genius, because she begins Vow of Silence from the killers POV and right after the prologue, not only did I have goosebumps up and down my arm but I'm thinking I already know who the killer is but alas, after the 10th chapter, my mind has been changed, then again after another 10 chapters; let's just say the Ms. Price knows what she's doing and definitely has my attention.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to read Vow of Silence because I managed to read a genre I've never read and also, I'm not a huge fan of anything to do with the Amish community, I've tried in the past but it was too boring for my taste BUT Vow of Silence didn't turn me off or away. I finished it in one sitting! I loved how Ms. Price slowly revealed the MCs in their background and gave them space for their characters to grow. They felt real, raw and believable. The chemistry between Joe and Hannah wasn't overly done, it had a lot of emotions and personality behind it which made the story that more interesting. Their relationship had to be slowly built, which after 8 years apart, would be accurate, especially since Joe and Hannah had experience first love and heartbreak, sadness and anger and lack of trust.

Also I fell in love with Dex, I mean who doesn't love dogs! Any ways, I give Vow of Silence 5 stars.
Melynda Price knows how to write mystery/thriller romance that takes place in the Amish community and not many can say that; this woman has done her job and done it right!

A gripping suspense novel, with equal measures of romance, passion and the mystery of unsolved murders of young Amish girls. Joe Traynor returns to his roots that he left several years prior, before becoming a successful homicide detective. Now he returns to investigate the murders and face an emotional reunion with Hannah, the Amish girl he hoped to marry in his previous life.
You will become immersed in the twisted tangle of suspense, as the girls keep disappearing, and Joe struggles to find the killer. Melynda Price is a talented writer that develops interesting characters and scenarios, as she takes the reader on a journey of intrigue and suspense.
My thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC and the opportunity to review this entertaining novel.

Vow of Silence is a suspenseful novel written by Melynda Price. This storyline is full of mystery, intrigue, murder, and love. I was drawn into this story from the first few pages and i remained intrigued throughout the entire story.

I really loved the characters of Josiah and Hannah and learning their story. There are a couple of characters who post doubt about themselves so you will have to wait until the ending to find the Identity of the killer.

I was given the opportunity to read this book in advance of its release through Netgalley and Melynda Price. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this book this book with four stars for meeting my expectations of a great mystery. The resder should be aware there is strong language and sexual content within the story.

Congratulations to Melynda Price for writing this intriguing story for her readers to enjoy.

Homicide Detective Josiah (Joe) Troyer, former Amish, is asked to return to his home town to investigate the serial killings of young Amish girls. Joe is now a homicide detective in Minnesota, having left his home and the woman he loved in Lancaster, Pennsylvania eight years ago. He was in love with Hannah Belier, but she was promised to another. Her younger sister, Cassie, has become the latest victim of the sadistic killer. As secrets are revealed and there is a break in the case, will Joe be able to find the killer before he can strike again? Joe has one attitude about finding the killer, help him or get out of his way. Joe eventually suspects that the killer may be closer than they realize. After reading Colleen Hoover’s Verity, I realized how much I enjoyed the thriller/mystery genre. Problem is, so many are contemporary thrillers and I have to have a good amount of romance in there. When I stumbled upon this one, I was so excited because it sounded so good with everything I have been looking for in it, along with being set against an Amish background. The last Amish-set series I read was great but nowhere close to this.

Vow of Silence begins immediately with the killer stealing one of the girls. It was a fantastic way to start the book, and sent chills down my spine. It then opens with Josiah, a once-Amish man who left the community and built a life as an “Englisher”. As he is a police detective with ties to the community, they send him in to find the killer of the Amish girls. Not long after being here, he runs into his old flame, who he was forced to leave behind and allow her to get married to someone else and build a family.

Thankfully that someone else is no longer around. So as Josiah is an outsider now, and she has ties to one of the victims, she offers to help him and go to all the families’ houses with him. Having one of their own will encourage them to chat with him. Being together throws them back together.

My favorite part of this book was the slow intensity build of their romance. They’re not new to each other so we didn’t need to have a buildup of getting to know each other. Despite that, there was a lot of sadness and broken trust that needed to be gradually put back together, so nothing was rushed. And nothing was too slow. I found it to be a fantastic pace. I fell in love with both characters and cheered them on.

Additionally, figuring out who did it was so fun. The author did a great job of bringing in a lot of strange or creepy or mysterious characters who could be the killer. So there was many suspects at one time and it really boggles the mind. The author did a fantastic job of building to the truth and keeping it hidden for a long enough time.

This was a fantastic read and I am so grateful for the opportunity to read it.
