The writing had a lyrical quality that just didn’t land for me. I couldn’t find my footing in the story, and the pacing felt too slow to hold my interest. Could work for readers who love Southern gothic with a literary edge.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC—I appreciate the opportunity.

This book was so beautifully written! Actually stunning mastery of language that I need to give the author props though. The descriptions were thorough and beautiful, and the characters were so detailed that I felt like I was there. It's vivid and real and truly impressive. However, the plot itself fell flat for me. Other than being caught up in the beautiful writing, I was bored with what was actually happened. The book didn't feel like it had a focus. The characters were flat and one-sided, and I wasn't invested in them so I couldn't root for them.
