Wanda E. Brunstetter is a wonderful author. The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club is one of my favorite novels. That being said I feel that The Healing Jar does not measure up. I could not connect with Lenore. She came off very one dimensional to me. Her deepest desire was to be a wife and mother, but other than wish for it, she never did much about it. It was like she was waiting for everything to just magically happen. I just couldn't really put much emotional investment into her. Jesse was not much of an improvement for me either. It was a surprisingly disappointing read for me as usually I can't help but fall in love with the characters Wanda creates. Hopefully next time.

The Healing Jar is the third book written by Wanda Brunstetter in her series The Prayer Jar. In this book we are taken back to Strasbourg, Pennsylvania and reacquainted with all the wonderful characters from the previous two books. This storyline is filled with deep emotions for several different reasons. The story moves along at a steady pace and definitely keeps the readers interest throughout the entire story. I enjoyed this story for many reasons and I am sure other readers will as well. The characters continue to be the warm, caring, loving individuals. The faith they share constantly touches the readers. This story mainly revolves around Lenore and her story but we also get to catch up with Michelle, Sara, Mary Ruth and Willis. These characters are a wonderful mix and the author has done a superb job making them friends of her readers. This story is filled with love, loss, friendship, forgiveness, and second chances. I was given the opportunity to read this book in advance of its release thanks to Netgalley and Wanda Brunstetter. I was not approached to post a favorable review in response. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. Congratulations to Wanda Brunstetter for writing another outstanding book for her readers to enjoy. I will be anticipating more releases from the author in the future. |
In the last instalment in The Prayer Jar series, we encounter Lenore Lapp, Willis and MaryRuth Lapp's grand-daughter. She is glad that fiends, Sarah and Michelle have both settled down but wonders when she will meet her soulmate. Unknowingly, for her friends, the fairytale does not continue after they say "I do" as they come to terms with married life. The three girls remain connected with the mysterious jars with notes filled with hope and encouragement in their time. As the series concludes, we see the trajectory of the repercussions of one's actions that extend longer than expected and how families are left to deal with them. The Healing Jar is a great read for the girl who is "always the bridesmaids but never the bride" and needs some encouragement. |
The Healing Jar is the third book of a three book series. It's a good book, but best if you have read the other two stories,The Forgiving Jar, and The Hope Jar. In this book, the author of the papers in each jar is revealed, and another third jar is found. It's a great story, but if you haven't read the first books, it may not make much sense. I enjoyed reading it, and it wraps up the story very nicely. Good read. |
Loved this book by Wanda Brunstetter. Book 3 in the series of The Prayer Jars was excellent. Lenore Lapp feels she has pretty much missed the marriageable time of her life when widower Jesse and sweet daughter Cindy appear in town. I love the characters in this story and as Lenore tends for Jesse's daughter, they become friends as she learns to love the sweet little one in her care. During this time Lenore finds the jar filled with scriptures, thoughts and feelings which were placed by someone long ago. Who wrote these? No one seems to know. This story has some interesting twists and turns. You will enjoy it especially if you have read The previous books and followed the family through each. Very nice story. Great author. I received an ebook copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own. |

THE HEALING JAR. Wanda Brunsetter Lenore is wondering when love will come for her, with two of her friends now married. At her grandparents home, still loved being there, now seeing that they were in need of love and assurance, unable to tend to the farm. She took a new teaching position this year, close by. In the barn, on a shelf, she noticed a canning jar that had papers inside. Michelle came in, and notice that Lenore had found her jar, It was when she was living there and pretending to be Sara, she wrote them. Sara knew about them also, and there were more jars with notes in them. They never asked about them to the grandmother for some were personal. Mishap outside the school yard and Lenore falls into an old well. Jesse happen to come by and noticed the children. He probably saved her life, and realized the love for her. A second chance at love if she would forgive him for what he had said before. Beautiful story and series of a love for the older, and the new love that comes in God’s time. Given an ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley and Barbour . |

Hope, Forgive, and Heal.....the 3 parts of one process. This series by Wanda Brunstetter is just what we need to concentrate on, in our Christian life. This book, the 3rd in the series, takes on the process of healing. How healing can be the balm for the soul and that it comes in different ways, different times using different approaches. The person/couple/community must come to healing through their own walk and this novel gives us all hope for healing our wounds. I thoroughly enjoyed the two previous novels and this one was not a disappointment. I read it, trying to bring it's purpose into my life and see the different ways to heal the burdens of life, in our world, today. Please take the time to read this series and to use what your receive as direction through the journey of this books couples, communities and people....you will truly enjoy it!! |
This is a very well written book that will keep you turning the pages. It is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. The author did an excellent job of making the book come to life. You can feel all of the emotions of the people in the book, happiness, sadness and every emotion in between. I enjoyed every minute of this book and loved the recipe at the end. Thank you Barbour Publishing Shiloh Run Press via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own. |
The best book in the series!! Oh my there is a lot of action in this story!! And a lot of topy turvies too!! I loved loved this book!! Wanda is truly an amazing storyteller. When I read one of her books I was hooked! I think the character I can most identify with is poor Michelle!! I've been in her place but eveveryrhing does work out. I also think that Trust is the main theme here. We need to trust God that He will work things out if it is His will. I love the fact that families still pray before every meal or whatever the situation calls for. I wish that more families would take time out to pray. I think we'd be a whole lot better if we left God in charge! I love Lenore to pieces!! I honestly wish that she were a real person. I would love to have her as a best friend!! She's an awesome character!! Patience is virtue but who has that? I sure don't Mary Ruth is also one of my favorite people. I hope that there are more stories with her in them. I love her outlook on life!! I think it's something we all need to learn. I love reading about the Amish! They are a fascinating people and I never get tired of saying that we can always learn a thing or two from them. Thank you Wanda for another fabulous story!! I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley. No compensations were received and all opinions are my own!! |
Closing out this series, the Healing Jar took me a little longer to get into than its predecessors. I do understand that part of this is due to the author wanted to set up the backstory for anyone who may have skipped the first two (though they'd really be missing a lot!). The relationship between the main characters seems a bit contrived, but there are still marriages of convenience all over the world today, so maybe it's not that far-fetched. At some points, one day spans several chapters, while at other points we span several months in a chapter...making the timeline seem a little cattywampus. (You just have to pay attention.) Overall, however, I give it four stars for the sentiment and the way that it closes out this series nicely. |
This book was amazing! Wanda E. Brunstetter never ceases to create a world that I can slip away to and become a part of. The only thing that gets me is how they end, but of course a good author always leaves you wanting more. The twists in the plot and the different relationships coming together, always remarkable. Lenore's love and kindness to get family and friends and the family dynamics that grow are just wonderful. |
