The bottom line is this - anything that Nancy Mehl writes, I am going to read and love. First Storm might be at the top of my favorites list, and rightly so because Mehl does a great job of taking readers on the solve the mystery train. Get ready for an edge of the seat read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fire Storm was quite interesting. It kept me interested until the very end. Would be interested in reading more from this author in the future. Great story.

This was an excellent novel! A great follow up to Mind Games (which I adored). The way Nancy brings this story to life is just fantastic. Its like watching a Criminal Minds episode in book form. I couldn't give this a solid 5 because I found myself drowning out at times while reading and I didn't see too many faith aspects.

Kaely is still a strange woman. I love her drive and desire to find criminals. Her work ethic and skill is impeccable. She still has her foolish moments and times when she doesn't keep herself together, but I still love her.

Noah is still a caring, strong man that is always working hard. I loved seeing him begin to let go and allow some walls to crack. I can't wait until he lets loose.

The brewing romance between Kaely and Noah is everything. I need them to stop playing and be together in the next book. I love their dynamic.

Jason is a caring brother with those moments of still being stuck in his childhood. Marcie is a bitter woman that just can't seem to let go and love her kids or let others in. Getting to know more about Kaely's family was such a great insight into getting to know her more personally.

The case was absolutely insane! The arsonist was absolutely crazy. I love the way the cases pile up and lead to a main case that always involves Kaely.

I cannot wait for the next book! That ending left me excited for the next book! Would definitely recommend.

I read book one in this series several years ago. I loved it and looked forward to reading the rest of the series. But somehow it dropped off of my radar. A couple of days ago I stumbled across it and decided to dive back in. I'm so glad I did. This is a fantastic series.

Kaely Quinn is an interesting character with quirky habits that seem somewhat unstable to most. But her methods bring results. Book two builds on book one and continues to give you insight into who Kaely is and why she does what she does. The story is quite suspenseful. In fact there is a twist at the end that even Kaely Quinn didn't anticipate!

If you are looking for a new series to read I highly recommend this one.

A good mystery and suspense book. If you like this genre of books, this is a solid story you can't go wrong with. A clean, intense mystery with good plot and intriguing characters

I am always happy to discover a Christian author who can write good fiction. Nancy Mehl can write!

The spiritual elements are just right. Not too little and not too much. Faith can be seen to be working in their lives.

Lots to like here really. I especially liked the unconventional way the heroine goes about doing her work.

I can definitely recommend this author for mystery and suspense with a bit of romance and some spiritual takeaways.

Okay so this book ended up just not being for me. Full disclosure I am agnostic but I do enjoy some Christian fiction so that wasn't the problem. I wanted to enjoy it but found myself just not really invested in the characters or the plot. A+ for the cover tho... It is a stunning piece of art. I would say this book definitely hits for a lot of people, I am just not one of them.

As a character-driven reader, it was not really surprising that I found myself thoroughly intrigued by Kaely Quinn after reading the first book in this series. The daughter of a notorious serial killer, she’s carrying a fair amount of emotional baggage, but it’s her mental acumen that has me most intrigued. She has Sherlockian powers of observation and deduction and some rather unusual methods of working through a case, and there’s a question over just how reliable a narrator she is, all of which makes for a fascinating character.

In this story, we get more of a glimpse into Kaely’s family life, and we get to see the tension that’s created when her drive to solve a case conflicts with her family’s needs. I love that Kaely’s faults are very much on display and that she’s beginning to see them in herself. The hope of seeing a satisfying resolution to her character arc makes me keen to read the final book in the series, particularly as there wasn’t a lot of development in her character in this novel.

While I’m invested in Kaely from an intellectual point of view, though, I found it harder to become emotionally invested in this story. The suspense plot started out well, but it was easy to piece things together from about halfway through the novel, and while the climax did provide a few surprises, they were mostly a result of Kaely keeping things hidden from the reader at the last minute, which felt a little underhanded.

Finally, I’m just not feeling the love between Kaely and Noah. We’re told the attachment/attraction is developing, but there’s no chemistry between them; I can’t feel the emotional connection building between them. Still, for readers who are looking for a suspense read that doesn’t involve a strong romantic thread, this won’t be a deterrent.

This is an incredible suspense novel with lots of twists!

I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Kaely. She is an amazingly deep character. It was nice to see her trying to figure herself out as well as her personal relationships. It can be so easy to just blame others for the problems.

Noah is a fantastic character. He is the perfect partner for Kaely. He is willing at accept her where she is at while at the same challenging her to improve. I enjoyed finding out that they become friends.

The string of fires and the mystery about how they were being started was wonderful. It was fun seeing all the different personalities and how they interacted with each other as they worked to solve it. The twists and turns throughout this book really kept me guessing.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All of the opinions expressed are my own.

Suspense from beginning to end. Characters are likable, the storyline is good and the ending unpredictable. What more could you want in a mystery!? Not only was there mystery written into this book, but there was also a great deal of suspense. I enjoy the down to earth characters and the touch of faith also. I can't wait for more books!

Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl is book 2 in the Kaely Quinn Profiler series. I loved book 1 so much but I have to say book 2 is (maybe?) even better. I love the main character Kaely— Ms Mehl has created a flawed, hurting protagonist whose difficult past only adds to the plot. I loved seeing her character further evolve in a meaningful way in this book. The suspense and action never stop! I highly recommend this novel. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

2.5 stars

Again I'm left without really ever warming up to Kaely as a character. The crimes make sense but the solutions felt disjointed and the case in Omaha that Kaely and Noah were working on gets dropped and apparently is only a means to get them to the state to be near Darkwater and then to take them out of town for a short time while something happens.

Noah continues to show himself a solid lead male, if a little stodgy, but he spends much of the time off the page, so I'm not even sure if I can consider him much of an MC in this book. Kaely keeps hoping he'll open up to God but while she talks about God and faith she doesn't speak to him of salvation and Jesus, so it's a hazy sort of faith. There's enough that a Christian would interpret it as Christianity but not that someone unfamiliar with the Christian POV about faith would limit it to Christian faith.

The serial arsonist intrigued me because I'm aware that arson is a continually growing issue in the US, especially in the Midwest.

Kaely has many hair-breadth escapes and in the end she puts herself entirely in the killer's hands, gets herself drugged, and barely escapes when backup arrives. This felt like a rehash of the showdown in book 1 and I wasn't honestly worried about her survival because I knew there was a book 3. But she goes out to meet someone and I felt cheated because, up to then, we'd been in her head knowing what she was thinking; but suddenly we discover Kaely knew much more than the reader knew and had already arranged for backup. This felt like a cloak-and-dagger trick at the reader's expense and honestly it robbed me of most of the thrills of the ending because I was just thinking she was incredibly stupid as I read those scenes.

And once again her imaginary friend Georgie took away from the seriousness of her story.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

While this was a great novel it seem to have a lot of info dump from the first book. If I hadn’t read Mind Readers I would have appreciated but, since I had it kept pulling me out of the story at the beginning. Also the first novel gives a hope that she and Nathan would become an item and this one, Spoiler Alerthas a disappointing romance ending. The mystery plot itself is amazing, but due to the above factors I give it an over all of 4 stars.

My book club read the first book in Nancy Mehl’s Kaely Quinn Profiler series, Mind Games and loved it. So there was no question I would read book 2, Fire Storm. The twists and turns and the very intriguing main character kept me engaged. -- this one was unputdownable! Kaely takes some time off to help out her brother in the care of her mother, but soon finds herself in the midst of the case of questionable house fires in the small community. Kaely can’t seem to shut off her investigative bent, but is it so she does not have to deal with the family dynamics she left years before? The interactions with her brother and mother provide great insight into Kaely’s character. The accidental house fires soon become an arson investigation, and I was kept guessing right up to the end. Fire Storm is pure suspense, although there is a hint of romantic attraction. We will see if anything comes of that in book 3, Dead End.

For fans of suspense, Fire Storm is a fantastic read. Plot twists, a very interesting main character, and a surprise ending all combine to give this one a recommended rating.

Thank you to Bethany House for the free review copy. All opinions are my own.
Kaely Quinn is back in this book, and this time, she is dealing with an arsonist and complicated family matters. I loved getting back into this series with this book. I think that Mehl does an amazing job of researching and presenting the information in this book about the UNSUB that is realistic. She also really captures complex family dynamics in this book.

I enjoyed the mystery throughout this book. I was left guessing and wondering who the arsonist was right along with the characters. I did figure out some of the ending, but that did not make it any less grand than it was. Mehl also incorporates so much depth when it comes to relationships with God and how layered they can be. Kaely is a character that has faith, but she has to figure out her faith walk along the way, and I liked seeing her progression throughout this book.

I loved getting to learn more about Kaely Quinn’s mother and brother. It does help to know that everyone can have problems within their family but sometimes they can be overcome. I loved the suspense throughout this whole book. I recommend that you read each of these books in order to enjoy them the most. I loved the characters and look forward to the next book in the series. I received a copy of this book from author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Kaely faces a storm of fire on all fronts...

OK, breathe and gather your thoughts. Wow, Fire Storm is one chilling and thrilling story! But what else do you expect from Kaely Quinn Profiler, author Nancy Mehl's very unique heroine? This time Kaely is taking on a serial arsonist, and....her own family. If there's one thing most of us know it's that family relationships are messy and not always perfect. But Kaely's got it in spades, after all, the effects of having a serial killer for dad and a husband are bound to affect you. A lot. And there's an arsonist in town just to make things interesting.

Well, if you are into stories with more twists and turns than a psycho's mind have I got the book for you! There are suspects galore and yet none of them could possibly be guilty. I had my eye on one character from the very beginning, had the whole scenario laid out, and then I was shocked when I was totally wrong...but I was also right... Trust me, Nancy Mehl's twisted imagination will leave you going “Huh, what?!” But, oh, that's what makes Fire Storm, and its predecessor, so good!

I enjoyed the fact that romance is not the main thread in this book, the hint of it is there, though, so the psychological elements are allowed to be front and center. While dark and chilling, as all such stories are, the light of faith is also allowed to shine, which, as a Christian reader I appreciated.

So, tell me, what are YOU waiting for? Just make sure you check behind the doors tonight and leave your light on...

Someone is setting fires in Dark Water, Nebraska. FBI behavioral analyst and profiler, Kaely Quinn, arrives in the small town to help her brother care for their mother and is almost immediately intrigued by the pattern she sees. Officially, town officials are blaming faulty space heaters for the fires but Kaely sees a pattern developing. Could Dark Water be sheltering a serial arsonist?

Fire Storm is heavy on the suspense, with just a few romantic sparks. The story is more about Kaely's investigation, and her unusual procedure for pointing law enforcement to the culprits than it is about any outside relationships she may have. The story also delves pretty deeply into Kaely's familial relationships. Her father was a serial killer, and when that was discovered, her mother shut herself off emotionally from both of her children. While her brother, Jason, has revived his relationship with her, Kaely still feels the distance. Can she balance working with the local sheriff and fire chief to find a killer, with caring for a mother she really doesn't like very much?

I've read several of Nancy Mehl's suspense books before this one, and this one ranked pretty high in the suspense stakes. While Kaely hit on a suspect pretty early in the book, proving it was a whole 'nother ballgame. I liked that Kaely wasn't a perfect, super-human, crime solver. She had her faults, and her technique that helped her solve the case was definitely unique.

Fire Storm is book #2 in Mehl's Kaely Quinn Profiler series. While it can be read as a stand-alone (which is how I read it) I think there might be some necessary background in Mind Games, book #1. I'm going to be going back and reading that one now, too! Suspense readers will enjoy this story.

I found this second book in the Kaely Quinn series to be just as compelling and intriguing as the first.

Kaely is almost my ideal of a perfect heroine. I like the fact that Nancy Mehl portrays her as a 'real' person. Her flaws, her quirks, her unique character traits. All these are what make her such a great character profiler.

In the beginning of this book, she's not on an FBI case. She went to stay with her mother and help care for her during her cancer. When she arrives in this small town, she immediately notices a pattern occurring in the so-called coincidental fires that had been happening. When she brings this to the attention of several law enforcement officers, things begin to escalate.

Next, she and Noah are asked by the FBI to do some investigating for the take down of a drug ring.

This book is just full of excitement, mystery, and danger.

I can't wait to read more, and eagerly look forward to the release of the next one in this series!

This book is the second in a series; however, it can be read as a standalone. Although you can read it by itself, I recommend reading the first book(Mind Games), that way you'll have a better understanding about Kaely and her unusual profiling methods - it also gives more of her family background, so the story makes more sense.
Just like in the first book, I found it really interesting how Kaely reads people and how she builds her profiles. I've seriously never thought of how a job like hers would affect how people react or respond to her. (they may try to mask their emotions and be more cautious what they say and do around her). It broke my heart to see how fractured Kaely's family was, but I loved that she was trying to rebuild the relationship with her mom - although it was mostly because of her brother. One other thing I love about the book/series, is the difference in the characters. Kaely is very focus on her job and puts it above everything else (sadly, this includes her life), Jason is focused on rebuilding his family and learning more about God and Noah is selfless and is focused on his job and protecting Kaely (sometimes, he has to protect her from herself).
Although, I felt like the climactic ending was a bit rushed (I actually thought I'd missed a page), I really liked the nail-biting story line and all the characters. That being said, I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars. **** and definitely put it on my "Must Read" list.

Special thanks to Bethany House Publishers, NetGalley and Nancy Mehl for allowing me to read and review this book - all opinions are my own
