This was my first Phillipa Ashley book, which I didn’t realize at first was the second in a series. It didn’t seem to matter much, and I was able to read this novel with no trouble. I read a few reviews of this before I started, and was expecting a cozy, Christmas story. This was not that at all. Christmas is sort of happening in the background as the story plays out. Not bad by any means, but not what I was expecting.

The story follows sisters Scarlett and Ellie, after an emotional bomb has been dropped on their family. As they try to deal with the fallout, they begin to learn to live their lives again, as a family, and on their own.

For me, this book had a lot going on. I felt like I couldn’t concentrate on any of them. I think I would have preferred one narrator, but it was okay. It was nicely written, and I always enjoy reading books from authors from other countries. Their phrasing, terminology, always makes for an interesting read! I am looking forward to checking out other titles from this author.

I was given an advanced reader's copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I have read quite a few books by Phillipa Ashley and A Perfect Cornish Christmas is another good read.
Set again in Cornwall, it follows Scarlett and Ellie, the two sisters , as they uncover a family secret that threatens to tear their family apart. Set in the little village of Porthmellow, this has some lovely Christmas themes. Perfect for a cosy afternoon read, cuddled up in the warm.

As with other Christmas stories this has a warm homely feeling to this. A wonderful curl up on the sofa , next the fire with a hot chocolate in your hand..
A book that’s has many twists and turns along the way.
Unfortunately I didn’t read the first in the series of these with the character Scarlett , which is the first person you meet as you enter the book.
My advice is to read the first book before this, but a wonderful book with many ups and downs.

Another great read from an author I really enjoy reading from, love how they flow and connect and that you are able to see how people in previous books are getting on.

Can’t wait for another book

I received a digital ARC of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first encounter with this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Having recently returned from a short trip to Cornwall, the descriptions in this book took me right back! It was clear that Cornwall is a part of the country that the author knows well.

The characters were really good and I was invested in all their stories. I would definitely read the other books in this series - if only to be transported back to Cornwall again!

I've read a number of Phillipa Ashley novels and always enjoy them and i am happy to say this was no different. It was a great Christmas story with good characters and an engaging storyline. The Christmas element wasn't too overly done but was just a nice undertone to the whole book. I enjoyed it a lot and this author is still on my auto-buy list.

A perfect Christmas novel beautifully written about the complexities of family life when a long hidden secret is exposed via a kind gift and how the family try to rebuild their lives in this Cornish community. Lots of romance, misunderstandings and awkward family members makes it a good read.

Heart warming Christmas read!

I loved the story starting on Christmas day and the events that unfold because of a "thoughtful" gift, which has unexpected repercussions.

Then following the family and the fall out of this gift, how they rebuild their relationships and find new ones too!

Had me gripped from start to finish!

A lovely Christmas romance which I really enjoyed. A story of romance, relationships, family and secrets. A lovely warm cast of characters and lovely Cornish setting which I really liked. Well paced with plenty of twists and turns along the way.

This book can be read as a standalone novel, although some of the characters have appeared in A Perfect Cornish Summer.

A perfect book for a cosy afternoon on the sofa.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

This is a lovely, cosy festive novel about a family in Cornwall at Christmas time. I enjoyed the writing and the characterisation and about halfway through I thought I knew exactly what was going on - I was wrong! The plot caught me totally off guard and I didn't guess what was going to happen at all.
This is a fun, exciting and heartwarming read that I'd recommend to anyone to brighten up their winter.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy in return for an honest review.

I’m calling it at 61%. I’m always grateful for my arcs via Netgalley, but I just couldn’t finish this one. I’m not sure if it is the writing style or just a lack of connection to the characters, but I’ve been struggling to read this for months and I’ve only made it this far. I hate DNFing a book, but this is as much as I could do. I’m sure others will find this a joy, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Making one star since I have to rate it; however, no star review will be included in my goodreads review. Nothing against the book or author, just wasn’t for me.

Wow! This book was totally not what I was expecting, and in a really good way! I was expecting along the lines of Jenny Colgan, but everything was better: The writing, the character development, the relationships, the conflicts, the holidays. I’m definitely going tune in for the rest of the series!

This is far from my first from this Author, and it certainly won’t be the last! She has a flair for drawing you into a community, making you smile and keeping you intrigued from start to end.

You don’t get to know one character, or even two, instead you find yourself invested in all of your characters, in a way that just lets you slide into the story effortlessly.

I loved how the story progressed, how it surprised at various points while having a genuine, honest feel to it. This is one that will make you smile throughout, keep you guessing as to what will happen, but make your heart warm from the realistic feel to the tone.

A perfect Cornish Christmas - a perfect escapist novel for December. Action from the get-go. Why exactly is Scarlet stumbling into the village pub on Christmas day soaked through to her skin and in bunny slippers? Scarlet and her sister Ellie arrange a surprise for their family on Christmas Day, but it doesn't go the way it was intended. The rest of the of the novel follows the fallout from that day. I love that the story is set in Cornwall - it's lovely reading about local places in books I read.

This wasn’t quite the cosy, Christmas read that I was expecting. It was a Family saga that took place at Christmas time, the characters had to deal with almost every situation regarding love, like and lust. Apparently there are more in the series about the quaint Cornish town but I’m not in a hurry to read more.

I absolutely loved this book, by one of my favourite authors.

It opens at Christmas time, the year before, with poor Scarlett distraught after her Christmas day turns into a disaster.

Almost a year later and many things have changed for the family, with buried secrets beginning to emerge, and another Christmas approaching.

I loved the gently weaving storyline, and the wonderfully drawn characters. The setting and atmosphere were also so real.

It’s a very festive and heartwarming book, and will really put you in a Christmassy mood, but there’s more to this book; there’s real life, heartbreak, and family secrets and difficulties.

Simply wonderful, a pleasure to read. Get a cosy spot, a nice warm drink, and just lose yourself in this captivating book. I loved it.
