I enjoyed Seeker by Kim Chance. Pros: Kim has delivered a well-paced, fun & entertaining read. Kim worked hard to ground us in setting (which was a criticism I had of Keeper). Maggie shines brightest in terms of characterization. Comments/Cons: I enjoyed the Master's sense of (albeit twisted) humor in the final chapters of Keeper and was hoping to see more of that in this book. Since this was a sequel, Kim had to sort of "catch us up" in chapter one. Kim did this from the POV of the love interest, Ty, (a good choice)...but his voice in chapter one sounded much different than the rest of the book.
Bottom Line: Well-written, fun. I'm definitely going to buy this book and encourage you all to do the same. 3.5 stars (my scale: 5=Shakespeare, 1=FSOG).

I loved book from beginning to end! The characters are so vibrant and real I found myself falling in love with Lainey, Ty and Maggie all over again, plus met a few new characters along the way. I felt like I was there, experiencing the adventure right along with them page after page, The relationship between best friends Maggie and Lainey was so sweet! Loved it!

I fell in love with Keeper so as soon as I heard Seeker was available I had to get my hands on it.

Kim Chance does an amazing job of opening this book up to multiple POV’S. Each character has a unique voice and personality.

There were a few cliche moments that stuck out like a sore thumb. Some parts were also predictable but that could come from me being an adult reading a YA novel. For example, Lainey needs to connect with someone whom she has a strong emotional connection with to perform a spell. One of the characters is named as that someone, but I knew that was wrong and I knew who she would ultimately choose in the end.

I loved all the characters, especially Maggie, but I wanted to hear more from their individual stories to allow me to connect better.

Overall it was an enjoyable read. 3.5 stars

Thanks, NetGalley

(This review has been posted to my blog and Goodreads).

I was ecstatic when I heard that Keeper would be a duology. I loved the first book so much, and when I saw Seeker's stunning cover, my excitement only escalated.

I adore Chance's writing style. The imagery and descriptions are gorgeous, and you're easily sucked back into the world and the story with only minimal catch-up details. I was so immersed. It's the kind of story you just get lost it, the kind you find yourself dying to get back to when life interferes, and the kind you can't resist continuing even though there're only a few pages left and you know it'll be over soon. I love that kind of story. You have fun from start to finish, and I think it takes serious skill on an author's part to captivate a reader so entirely.

Chance has pulled no punches when it comes to plot. The stakes are higher, and the whole general tone of the story is darker - fittingly so. It's more mature, more sombre, and yet still consistently entertaining. I appreciated this. It's still a fun story (SUCH SUCH SUCH FUN) but it's also got a carefully administered amount of gravity. And that makes sense. The characters are in a life or death situation, and we feel this. The stakes are strong and emotional, and this is always present, keeping the reader invested and concerned.
It's an escapist story. But it's not without weight. Chance balances the light and dark perfectly.

The main difference in Seeker compared to Keeper is that we now have Ty and Maggie's narrative points of view, as well as Lainey's. It ends up being a brilliant idea, because these two characters show us sides of the story we wouldn't have otherwise experienced: Ty gives us a glance into the Master's evil operations, and Maggie gives us a glimpse into her inner turmoil whilst at the same time providing much-needed comic relief.

The much-loved female friendship between Maggie and Lainey is even stronger in this book. I love the twist at the end, and how the two girls are always, always there for each other. It's wonderful.

Lainey, fierce but impulsive Lainey, is of course at the head and heart of this story. She's struggling to deal with her grief and pain whilst soldiering the fact she's the only person who can destroy the Master, and I truly loved her character development. She learns a lot and her strength is so admirable.

The new secondary characters - Oliver, Teddy, Zia, and more - are also fantastic. Each of them has an important role to play and enough backstory and motivation to flesh them out. Everyone on the page is fully realised; however brief their appearance might be, each character is distinct, and they all make an impact.
The only disappointing character was the Master. He's the cliche villain through and through; totally the evil laugh, brooded in mystery, angry and evil bad guy we've all seen before.

Ty and Lainey's relationship has been through a lot, and in this novel their feelings are angsty but undeniable. I loved seeing them grapple with each other, watching their bond grow stronger, watching them deal with past pain and reconciling betrayals and hurt with what they know now. They grow a lot. Their interactions are also beautifully written, and their chemistry is incredible.

Seeker is a breathtaking sequel that ramps up the emotion and tension and delivers a compelling, escapist story. It's urban fantasy at its very best.
I loved spending time with these characters, and I'm so grateful for the adventure this series took me on.

(3.5) The plot twists and turns made the occasional cliche moment easily ignored. To be honest with you, I didn't enjoy the multiple perspectives, but I think it's really difficult for any author to make each character's storyline as exciting as the last.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The book is given in the point of views of three characters, Lainey, Maggie, and Ty. All of them were well written and they each had a different voice. I really enjoyed getting to see through all of their different perspectives.

The plot has a lot of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes the entire time. There were a lot of times that I had no idea who to trust. Readers who like psychological thrillers and fantasy will enjoy this book.

The writing was really detailed and vivid. The setting was also really well developed and the characters all had distinct personalities and depth.

There were some plot points that may seem cliche to some readers but I thought that the author did a really good job at subverting the tropes and keeping the reader wondering throughout the book. And although it is quite a dark read, there were some moments of humor between the characters that really made me laugh out loud. Overall, it's a great read and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first installment.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My review of Seeker by Kim Chance can be viewed on my IG account at the following link:

It reads as follows:

Hi everyone 👋! My awesome 🎆 news is that I've luckily been granted an ARC 📖 of Seeker, written by the lovely YA author, Kim Chance. I finished it last night and I'm excited to share my review with you! 🙌

The sequel to @kimwritesbooks 's 1️⃣st 📑, Keeper (reviewed in an earlier post), Seeker releases on the 1️⃣0️⃣th of September and can already be pre-ordered on Amazon!

If you've read Keeper, you'll know a bit about the main characters, Lainey, Maggie & Ty (oh my!). In Keeper **Spoiler Alert** Lainey discovers she is a descendant of witches 🔮 and has magical powers she doesn't yet know how to control🎮. The last in her family line, she is now the keeper of the family Grimorie, which she needs to protect 🔒from an evil 👿 warlock. I recommend reading the book to find out about all the other things that happen, and so you know what is going on when Seeker comes out.

In Seeker, Lainey & Maggie band with a group of witches 🔮 and other fantasy creatures 🐺 to prepare for battle ⚔️with The Master. Lainey can't stop thinking 💭about Ty (and he keeps thinking 🤔about her) but can Lainey ever forgive his betrayal, and is Ty actually an evil bad 👎guy? Maggie finds herself making eyes 👀at the world's crankiest guy, who has some special abilities of his own, and also finds herself precariously close to death 💀 - she might not survive ☠️!

I ❤️ how this book is written from the perspectives of 3️⃣ different characters. This lets us inside their heads 🙇 and allows us to follow them all when the plot sends them in different directions↖️⬇️↗️. The work the author poured into this 2️⃣nd novel shows. I especially enjoyed getting to know Maggie better.

This fantastic YA story sticks to the innocent side of romance while still offering an exciting story for young readers to fall in love with.

Honestly, if you're a fan of Keeper, this one is defiinitely a sequel that fans will enjoy! Had some really great characters development and the characters were better overall. Had TONS of twists, bumps, and turns throughout, so it'll really keep you on your toes. There were times where scenes felt really slow, but it would quickly recover and go back to its normal pacing. Overall, it's a really great read and I'd recommend checking it out, especially if you enjoyed the first book.

ARC provided to me by the publisher in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have always struggled to find a good sequel and for me, Seeker by Kim Chance was a highly anticipated one. Her debut novel, Keeper, was a gripping page-turner and Seeker had so much to live up to.
Having just finished this sequel, I was not disappointed at all. It was so much more than I hoped it would be. The characters were unique and had such incredibly vivid depth. As a reader, I was invested from the very start. The plot took many twists and turns forcing me to stay up way too late to finish. Chance took me on a roller coaster of a journey I cannot recommend highly enough. I wait with baited breath for her next novel.

I loved this book - and couldn't put it down! The twists and turns kept me going and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I also love the addition of different factions. It is like Harry Potter, Divergent, and Twilight mixed in a pot with a little dose of Marvel magic for good measure.

Fans of KEEPER are 100% not ready for this one!!!!! Kim Chance does a masterful job at subverting tropes in this follow-up, and I loved the fact that Maggie and Ty got to join Lainey with their own POVs this time around! The story is darker than the first book, but it's still funny and chock-full of action, so I think I can confidently say that if you enjoyed KEEPER, you are going to eat SEEKER up. It’s everything that’s great about the first book, but taken to the next level and beyond—and OMG, THE ENDING!
