Lachlan McRae is driven to avenge the murder of everyone he loved and the time has come to hunt down and kill the vampire responsible. After her friend is murdered, Julia Harper steps out of her role as a CIA analyst and sets out to take down one of the most powerful men in Scotland. Julia and Lachlan want the same thing, the Vampire Lord – Erskine Ross’s death, but Erskine has Julia and Lachlan fighting for her life and for a love that neither one of them can trust.

A powerful and breath taking, exhilarating read that has readers wondering if another evil bad guy will bite the dust. Lachlan and Julia have some serious chemistry going on but the relationship is chock full of trust issues and both of their determined mind sets that they have to take down the vampire lord of Scotland. Both of these characters are strong, very bold characters that readers can really sink their teeth too with lots of emotional turmoil plaguing their relationship and lots of explosive passion that sets readers’ senses aflame.

The fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers glued to the page with lots of heart pounding suspense, adrenaline pumping excitement and thrilling danger with this story being further enhanced by the appearance of Raphael and Cyn during a tense meet and greet. A couple of potent and white-knuckle battles adds further hair raising enjoyment to this already superior read, which ensures that readers will want to read this powerful, exhilarating, and intensely satisfying romance over and over and over!

I received an advanced reader's copy of Lachlan by D. B. Reynolds from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Disclaimer: I had never read anything by D. B. Reynolds before this and had no expectations either way. Happily, I did enjoy her writing style and would gladly read other novels in the future. Also, I'm always a little leery about jumping into an on-going series without reading the previous books to "meet" the characters, understand the world building, etc. Although you could tell that this novel continued a previously started story arc, the author took the time to introduce the characters and world without dragging it out.

I was a fan of the main characters, CIA analyst Julia Harper and vampire Lachlan McRae, from the start. Julia was strong in her own right and not looking for anyone to save her, but she accepted help when it was necessary AND wise so I liked the author for writing a strong female lead character who used her brain. I thought D. B. Reynolds did a nice job of fleshing out both characters without going overboard or making their attraction unrealistic (you know the kind-when you basically roll your eyes at the overdone instalust that makes the romantic pair seem as though they're halfwits who can't function due to being lust crazed). The plot was fact paced and interesting, and I was engaged from the first page.

All in all, it was an enjoyable novel to read and I will definitely look for future novels by D. B. Reynolds!

This is the 13th book in this brilliant series which now takes up the battles for power into Scotland and Europe .

Lachlan McRae has spent the last 200 years rebuilding his clan after they were decimated by treachery .
He is determined that Erskine Ross , now Vampire Lord of Scotland ,be finally killed so that his Clan can be avenged . If that means he becomes Lord of Scotland it will be a bonus .

Julia Harper works for the CIA as an analyst . She receives a phone call from her best friend , based in London , and hears the shots that kill him . Determined to find the Vampire responsible and kill him …….. she travels to meet an old school friend who needs her help in contacting Cyn (another old school friend ) and Raphael . Only it is not her friend who needs the contact information but Lachlan …… he needs to be assured that his bid to rid the world of Erskine Ross will not be interfered with by any plans of Raphael's .
However Julia soon finds that she is a target - someone is trying to kill her ….. why ? Lachlan and Julia must work together to firstly keep her safe and secondly for both of them to gain their revenge against Erskine Ross .
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Whilst Cyn and Raphael are mention briefly in this book the story is not about them …………
This is a fast paced story with all that I have come to expect from this series ……….. lots of suspense , blood and romance .
We are left at the end with a teaser of a rising power in Europe with plans that could rival Raphael's - I look forward to the next in the series .

Full review to be published online in early May.

LACHLAN is the 13th book in the wildly popular and long running UF/PNR ‘Vampires in America’ series by DB Reynolds. As we begin here, we have yet another upstart Vampire preparing to overthrow an evil Master vampire; but he needs Raphael and Cyn’s help to do so. Lachlan is hell bent on getting revenge on Erskine, a vampire who wiped out most of Lachlan's clan over two hundred years ago. Now, Lachlan is on the verge of reclaiming Scotland as his territory. When human Julia Harper attempts to persuade him to help her kill Erskine, she offers him a connection to Raphael. Being raised at a private school together with Cynthia, she knows her connection to Raphael. Since her best friend was killed by a vampire, she needs Cynthia and Raphael to help her avenge Masoud's death. Unfortunately, her work for the State Department of her makes Raphael wary of her.

LACHLAN is an enticing and entertaining addition to the series. It’s quite readable as a standalone; but many of the over-arching plot machinations will mean more to a long-time reader.

Lachlan is a well paced, dynamic addition to the Vampires in America series. The strength of the characters, the engaging storyline and the well thought out plot makes this book and series a must read. I look forward to seeing what comes next

No, Julia and Lachlin do not fall in love at first site:

Lachlan leaned across the table to shake, careful of the woman's slender hand as he wrapped his thick fingers around hers. A tingling heat warmed his palm when their hands touched, and his eyes shot up to meet hers, seeing her pupils widen in surprise as if she felt the same heat. She managed to confine her reaction to her eyes, keeping the rest of her face cooly polite, which was fine with him. Keeping his tone the same, he said, “Ms. Harper.”
“Julia “, she supplied as she slid her fingers out of his grasp. (Lachlan by D.B. Reynolds)

Now what is so important to know about that meeting? It is that we know they are going to fall in love but it takes about 8 delicious, sexual tension chapters to get there. Yes, I love the build up!!!! Almost as much as the capitulation to lust. Lachlan is my new book-boyfriend and yes I've said that before. I think the last time was Vincent but don't hold me to that. It might have been …. Oh you know by now that I'm gaga over all of Ms. Reynolds Alpha vamps. (We shall rename her “Mother of Vampires”)

In this book we are gifted with that slow, delicious sexual chemistry but also Ms. Reynolds' signature heart pounding action. We are introduced to clever dialog and vivid atmosphere. Don't let that slow build-up fool you, this is a fiercely erotic book delivered by the hands of an accomplished author. Some vampires are evil but all vampires can be violent even the ones that heroines fall in love with. And when circumstances allow, some heroines can step up and be just as violent.

So whatcha looking for ?? Action? Adventure? Raphael? Cyn? Hot sex? Vampire Alphas? It' s all right here. And a true kickass heroine.

Lachlan: Vampires in Europe is book 13 in the Vampires in America series. While book 12 Quinn was a huge disappointment for me, Lachlan was a perfect example why I continue this series. I loved this book, from beginning to end. Although it had moments that were a little wordy and slow overall it had everything I love about this author. Lachlan is a Scottish vampire and upon waking his first night he finds his clan slaughtered, including their human woman and children. He knew the enemy but was to young and weak to fight so he waited till the time was right. Lachlan was absolutely yummy, I loved everything about him. He now proudly sits at number two as my favorite because there is only one at the top and that is Raphael and no one can ever replace him. Julia's childhood friend is killed by vampires and her path leads her to Lachlan. Julia reminded me a lot of Cyn, who also happens to have gone to school with Julia. She's sassy, strong but at no point was she TSTL. She knew when to fight and when to let Lachlan handle things and that is a trait I wish all my h's had. As always anytime Raphael shows up I'm a happy girl. Overall this one was a great addition to the series.

Hot vampire lords? This series has those in ample supply. In this latest installment, Scotland is about to be won from a horrible vampire leader by Lachlan McRae. Lachlan is still under two centuries old, but has spent over 150 years trying to right a horrible wrong done to his clan by the vampire lord of Scotland. Julia Harper is a beautiful CIA agent going for her own revenge against the same lord. When Lachlan and Julia cross paths, sparks fly all over the place and eventually they team up. Quite the delightful team, I must add.

A new Vampires in America book is always welcome sight for me. I am still working my way through the series as time permits, but I still request a new one that shows up on Net Galley when I see one. Not sure, but I think they have all been 4 to 5 star reads every time. By now readers of the series know pretty much what’s coming with each new book. It’s time for an American territory or now European country to get a better, less oppressive, and more just leader. Times are changing and all that. In order for that to happen, a vampire must have an almost magical power that other vampires are not imbued with. These men feel the need to rule if they are strong enough. Lachlan is definitely strong enough. Julia Harper is strong in her own human way. She’s CIA, rich as one can possibly be, and has the brains that go along with the CIA job. When one of her longest and dearest friends gets killed by the Scotland lord, she vows to kill him. Of course, she has no idea the amount of power these vampire lords hold inside them.

Julia went to an exclusive French boarding school with Cyn. Cyn is Raphael’s mate, also known as the strongest vampire in the world. So when Lachlan asks for an “in” with Raphael from Julia, the two undertake the journey to California for a visit with the vampire ruler. If there’s such a thing as main characters of this series, it’s Raphael and Cyn. They have been featured in several books and even more novellas. So it’s always nice to catch up with the pair. They are, after all, the reason most of us readers fell in love with this series in the first place. Of course, most of the action switches back to Scotland.

I enjoyed the characters of Julia and Lachlan and all the Scottish scenery, accents and the back story of how Lachlan became a vampire and ultimately why he is working so hard to take down the brutal, but cowardly, lord of Scotland. Personally, I think these two are going to be up in the top three of my favorite couples to date from this series. I loved their chemistry and banter and really appreciated how strong Julia was when she went up against Lachlan’s equally strong personality.

Reynold’s world building is still fascinating to me. These vampires are known about by human’s, mostly feared, but still have a place in the world. Needless to say, it hasn’t always been that way. Vampires have their own code of honor, their own politics, and police each other. Human law enforcement could never really police them anyway, due to a vampire’s ability to scrub minds.

For adult readers that enjoy paranormal romance, this is the series to try-if you haven’t already. There’s always plenty of action, life and death moments, romance and really hot sexy times as well. You can start anywhere in the series and still get a pretty much standalone romance, but I would suggest starting with Raphael, book one and still my favorite.

Whole series is highly recommended. This one, 4.25 stars!

So while this was not strictly “in America,” this Vampires in America series continues to deliver solid, sexy stories that will have me committed to this until the bitter end.

This is Lachlan’s story and even manages to cross a little into Cyn’s world, too. Lachlan is a man on a mission of revenge. Sure, it has taken over a hundred years to get there, but he’s just as committed as the day he awoke to find his clan slaughtered. The big bad, in this instance, is the vampire lord of Scotland. So where does his mate come in? Well, Julia is a CIA agent who just so happened to go to school with Cyn. It’s through this connection that she is able to meet up with Lachlan while she’s on her own mission to avenge her friend. Having the same enemy doesn’t exactly make them fast friends, but it does put them in close proximity.

These two are tough, stubborn, and a perfect match. Even if this storyline is relatively expected, they still manage to jam in some surprises along the way. Each mate we meet has different strengths and weaknesses to balance out her vampire and Julia was no exception. Overall, I guess we are leading to Raphael’s total world domination? It’s definitely interesting to see where this larger storyline is headed.

Okay... I admit: I just love vampires. So when I saw D.B. Reynolds new book, I just had to request it. Although I haven't read the total series, you can easily read this book as a standalone. D.B. Reynolds has different series (Vampires in America, Vampires in Europe, Stone Warriors), but basically the characters flow through the series. So, also in this book about Lachlan, a Scottish vampire, we meet Raphael and his Cyn. Since Raphael is the most powerful vampire, everyone tries to get on the same page with Raphael. Because if you don't you probably end up as dust.
Lachlan is hell bent on getting revenge on Erskine, a faul vampire who has wiped out most of Lachlan's clan some two hundred years ago. But now, Lachlan is on the verge of reclaiming Scotland as his territory. To be sure he isn't getting problems with Raphael, who has been killing vampire lords in France recently, he needs to contact him. But how? When a fearless little blond woman is trying to persuade him to help her kill Erskine, she offers him a connection to Raphael. Being raised at a private school together with Cynthia, she knows her connection to Raphael. And since her best friend Masoud was killed by a vampire, she needs Cynthia and Raphael to help her avenge Masoud's death. But her work for the CIA makes Raphael wary and therefore she needs Lachlan to go to Raphael to convince him that Erskine needs to be killed.
She didn't anticipate Raphael to order her to come with Lachlan to America. Thrown together for a journey with only one purpose, they soon find out what the motives of the other are for wanting Erskine's death. But are they both totally honest? And why is Erskine suddenly trying to kill Julia first? Find out for yourselves in this suspense story. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Lachlan McRae century’s long vendetta against Erskine Ross, vampire lord of Scotland is finally coming to an end. He had been biding his time, strengthening his clan both vampire and human, waiting for the right moment to strike. With a lot of Europe’s vampire rulers in turmoil or taken out by the uber American vampire Lord Raphael, the time appears to be now. Julia Harper, a wealthy American and CIA analyst, has revenge on her mind too as the same Erskine had her best friend killed to cover up his illicit activities. Julia is also an old friend of Cyn, Lord Raphael’s mate, so she has the perfect in with the American vampires which happens to also fit well into Lachlan’s plan.

Erskine has his evil sights on Julia for several reasons not the least of which is she possesses information that would expose his criminal activities. Julia’s determination to take Erskine down brings her to work with Lachlan who finds himself quite attracted to this American spitfire. A battle royal between the vampire Highlanders is coming. Julia wants to be on the front lines to get some of her own back despite the risk and danger.

The beauty of Scotland is a fine setting for this tale. Fans of Ms. Reynolds will enjoy the spicy, sizzling relationship between this proud Scotsmen and the fiercely determined American. She will not be sitting by back while Lachlan goes into the final battle, vampire a vampire. Fans will also enjoy spending a wee bit of time with Cyn and Raphael. Lachlan knows the smart vampire would ally with the world’s most powerful one.

Book #13 in the overall series, Vampires in America, and book #2 in the spin-off, Vampires in Europe, things are heating up for the Old World vampires after having lost several of their lords who thought to take over America. Raphael had shown them that is not happening so now a scramble for power including Lachlan making his bid is the theme for this offshoot and those to come.

This book is a good paranormal romance, well written and engaging.
I liked the world building, the cast of characters and the plot.
I look forward to reading other installment in this series.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I read only book one in the ViA series - Raphael. Yet I didn't have any problems with this book - understanding and enjoying it. To be honest, I don't remember a lot from Raphael's book, so I read this one as a standalone.
Ms. Reynolds for sure knows how to capture her readers with great characters and chemistry pouring from her both MCs. This is a story of revenge and power fight. Lachlan is a lethal vampire that wants to avenge his clan that was killed by current Scottish vampire lord - Erskine. He wants his position and revenge from the death of his clan.
Julia is an agent, but right now she's on a mission to take down Erskine for killing her close friend. I LOVED her character s she was set on the mission, but yet she had a heart in the end.
This story was full of emotions, has strong characters, lots of secrets, sexy vampires, fight for the title of Lord. I hope her next book will be even better than this one as I have so high hopes for those

Our Lords are back and I must admit I rather enjoyed Lachlan and Julia. I think a main reason I did was because Julia reminded me of Cyn in lots of ways, she was strong and her and Lachlan worked well together. We of course get a few glimpses of Raphael and Cyn, but the majority of this story revolves around Julia’s quest for revenge and Lachlan’s for Scotland. This has what we’ve come to expect from this author violence, likeable characters, steamy on top of steamy scenes. I truly enjoy this authors world she’s created and I can’t wait to see which country is next to be under new leadership...my money is on England.
This was a complimentary advanced reader copy provided by the author and publisher in exchange for a honest review via Netgalley.

I ask that we all just take a moment to appreciate that cover because all too often the artwork and the character portrayed seldom matches. Here with the next book featuring how the Vampire world within Europe is changing the author introduces Lachlan and that Scot is everything readers have come to expect. Yes he’s all brawn, brains and heart and it all combines to make him a formidable enemy. Having been biding his time and consolidating his Clan he’s now ready to go into battle and it’s one he intends to win . He just needs to confirm that the most powerful Vampire in the world doesn’t already have his sights on Scotland and that’s why he finds himself with a very human ally .
Julia was devastated when her friend was murdered and she’s in England determined to take out the Vampire who she believes is responsible. She doesn’t really understand the secretive world of Vampires but it’s soon very apparent that her goals and those of Lachlan definitely coincide. He’s big, he’s bold and clearly confident but that little thing called chemistry isn’t that easy for Julia to ignore. Thrown together the couple are seeking more than just revenge they both are hunting for justice. As danger creeps ever closer it’s imperative they trust each other but just who is really calling the shots ?
There’s everything I could want here with two strong, believable characters and a sneaky bad guy who deserves all that’s heading his way. Fans of this series will be overjoyed that Raphael makes an appearance but trust me Lachlan is everything readers want in a hero. I loved that the story is set up with background on Lachlan as it made the overall plot and storyline very cohesive. Julia is exactly the type of heroine I associate with this series as she’s feminine, confident, has smarts and even a practical side. Get the ice on standby when you read this but most of all definitely do read this book !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Another hit by D.B. Reynolds. The war is coming, alliances are being made, only the strong will survive. Lachlan wants to be the Lord of Scotland. He has waited many years for revenge against Erskine, the present Lord. Lachlan. knows he can be the Lord who can rule fairly. When he meets Julia Harper, a CIA agent, who has her own agenda, sparks fly in more ways than one. Erskine killed her friend, Masoud. but he left files and information for Julia so she could follow the trail. She and Lachlan team up to bring Erskine down for good. There are secrets and and lies that will be discovered which will affect Raphael, the most powerful Vampire Lord in the world. No one wants to be his enemy. Strong hero, feisty heroine, steamy sex. I read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the rest of the series. One of my favorite Lords of of the series. 5+ stars. If you love handome, strong vampires and the women who stand beside them, you will love this series. I received this book from Net Galley and Belle Books/ImaJinn for a honest review. I was honored to be able to read this book.

In this latest novel by D.B. Reynolds, she delights her readers with a fast-paced, primal story of merciless clans and the all-consuming need for dominance and revenge. LACHLAN is magnificent; imposing in stature and a mesmerising vision as he wields a strength that is both lethal and captivating in its power, and let’s not forget his heart-stopping Scottish Brogue!

After years of planning his ultimate conquest of the current Scottish Vampire Lord, Lachlan and Julia are thrown together on a mutual quest for justice and revenge. And while each has a different reason for their single-minded goal, there is no denying the depth of attraction and chemistry that develops throughout this engrossing tale bursting with equal amounts of danger, suspense and explosive passion.

LACHALN….. is a well-balance story, with a marvellous plot, insightful world building, and the added bonus of some quality time spent with formidable Raphael....there is no mistaking that Ms Reynolds has returned to her absolute best with this latest instalment. When I finally reached the end I was reluctant to turn the final page; so now I wait for what comes next.

Nearly 200 years later, Lachlan has finally enough power to take down Ross and claim the title. Julia needs to avenge her friends death, and Lachlan agrees to help Julia get her revenge.
