Over a mimosa-fueled brunch, actors and divorcees Bootsie and Binnie joke about becoming hitmen. They decide to call their business venture Sweet Cream Ladies, Limited. Later they share not only their business plan, but their selected targets and methods for demise, with a group of inebriated fellow actors in a crowded bar.

A short time later, they are brought in for questioning when the first victim dies just as they outlined. On the bright side, Bootsie meets the charming and sexy detective, Sebastian Laramie. And she gets to see him again, as more of their enemies meet unfortunate ends.

Bootsie and Binnie are fun to be around—madcap characters who are always ready for a drink or snack, and take the reader along as they explore New York City. The virtually indistinguishable names are confusing, though, and they talk an awful lot. The dialogue could be cut in half with no impact on the story.

Sweet Cream Ladies, Limited is a throwback to the cozy mysteries that proliferated in the 1990s. If the plot is slightly implausible and the dialogue exhausting, it’s nonetheless an enjoyable read for lovers of mysteries and New York. I am both.

What a fun read! Almost the feel of a slap stick comedy. 2 actress friends make up a company to become contract killers. 2 less likely successful people ever! Yet someone takes the list the gals made and the way to kill them. So a copy cat is out there. Enter a detective that is investigating and interested in one of the actresses. I liked the fun story.

This was a FUN book that I enjoyed immensely. Babs and Bootsie are a modern Lucy and Ethel and I loved them and their escapades. Some situations are laugh out loud hilarious.
Many thanks to Encircle Publications, LLC and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Can I just started pull Bootsie and Bonnie out of the book and be their friend? They're hilarious!

I really liked the mystery of who was killing people off before Bootsie and Bonnie got a chance.

Sebastian and Joey we're pretty cool, too.

I received this ARC via Netgalley and Encircle Publications in return for an honest review. Sweet Cream Ladies, Ltd., a cozy mystery novel by Flo Fitzpatrick, is an unexpected and funny mystery. Two mostly-out-of-work mature actresses are having margaritas at their favorite haunt and decide that they could easily make a living as professional hitwomen. They form Sweet Cream Ladies, Ltd. (the ‘limited’ because a very important point!), focusing on the removal of terrible ex-husbands, professional rivals, and genuinely bad people. Because they’re rather soused on margaritas, they announce both their new name and the hit list to everyone in the restaurant. When the first three on the hit list are found murdered in exactly the way Babs and Bootsie (the protagonists) devised, they discover that the police are very interested in their means and motives. This is a combination of a cosy and a satirical take on mysteries. There are great laugh out loud scenes (the squirrel at the funeral is inspired!). So, who done it and why and how did they find out what Babs and Bootsie planned? The story works well and I recommend it. I will warn that, in the beginning, I wasn’t sure if I’d keep reading so I found that a bit slow. Trust me, it was worth it (again, the funeral squirrel is a highpoint!).

Sweet Cream Ladies, Ltd. is one of those books that I either love or hate because it isn't a genre I normally venture into. I really enjoyed this one though. It was funny, quirky, suspenseful, and just plain fun. I hope to read more.

Sweet Cream Ladies, Ltd., a cozy mystery novel by Flo Fitzpatrick, begins when two, mostly-out-of-work aging actresses are having margaritas at their favorite haunt and decide that they need extra money. They form Sweet Cream Ladies, Ltd., an organization that gets rid of terrible ex-husbands, professional rivals, and genuinely bad people. The problem, besides being extremely intoxicated, is that they announce not only their plans, but those who are already on the hit list to everyone in the restaurant. Of course most would think they are simply joking, but when the first three on the hit list are found murdered in exactly the way Babs and Bootsie (the protagonists) have described, they find themselves on a big suspect list, and the police are taking their business seriously.

The novel, besides being a light cozy, could be considered a humorous satire on cozy murder mysteries. None of the scenarios are actually believable, and the characters don’t seem to be serious either. Nevertheless, the novel is light, funny, and will keep readers laughing. There is also an element of suspense, which keeps readers wondering who is really murdering the people Babs and Bootsie have on their list, and how that murderer knows how to go through with the murders according to Babs’ and Bootsie’s plans.

While satirical in nature, the book is well-written and flows well so that it is a quick read. The story is fun and the dénouement is a surprise. Fitzpatrick is a seasoned writer, mostly in the romance genre (and there is an element of romance in this as well as the suspense), and it is evident that she knows how to tell a story that reins her readers in and keeps them to the end.

Those who like to read something fun without graphic sex, language, or violence should pick up this book and enjoy the humor.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

A solid 4 star read- a pair of funny, quirky friends with a penchant for imagining gruesome deaths coming to those who wronged them. The fun starts when someone starts bumping off the people on their list for real. Throw in a sexy police officer and a son of a mafia don and you have yourself 4 very unlikely heroes trying to capture the real murderer.
The beginning was a little slow and the book would benefit from cutting out some fluff and making it 20-30 pages shorter. I found some parts too verbose and slow.

DNF.
I read a lot of mysteries—A LOT—and after 10 chapters, found this too repetitive, and the main characters too inconsistent, to continue. For amateur detectives, they are VERY amateur.

A light-hearted mystery with great characters.

Two best friends and out-of-work actresses decide over brunch that they should become hit women with their first targets being folks who had done them wrong. In a bar a few days later, one of the women, who is drunk, begins speaking about their plans.

Suddenly the people on the list start dying in just the way the women had expressed and they become murder suspects. As the murders mount and the circle of wounded widens to include others not on the list, it becomes urgent that the mystery be solved.

Bumbling, our pair of best friends manage to step into more trouble as events unfold in this fun mystery.

A wonderful roller coaster ride with twists and turns, interesting characters and a solid mystery. Not your everyday run of the mill story, this book kept a smile on my face throughout. Can't wait to read more from this author. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.

This is Babs and her buddy Bootsie book, They both on unintentionally create a contract killing business to get rid of pesky ex husbands and Professional rivals! But when an intoxicated Babs announces to everyone in their favorite diner that they’re becoming hit woman Bootsy wonders if her friend is a little crazy or just too intoxicated LOL when the top three intended victims end up dead they get called in for questioning! This book was definitely funny a little quirky, low on the steam factor but definitely well written it really wasn’t the type of book I normally read but it was definitely worth reading just not my all-time favorite but still worth the read! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

This is my first book from Flo Fitzpatrick and I found it to be extremely entertaining. It contains humor along with thrilling twits as Babs and Bootsie maneuver their way around the police, the mob and Madam Minerva, a fake psychic.

I love these ladies Babs and Bootsie, they are funny and extremely entertaining.

Did their announcement about having three contract killings mean they actually killed them or was someone else taking matters into their own hands? You have to buy the book to find out, but I can tell you that you will not see the ending coming.

I was provided this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book for anyone who loves a good mystery. 📕👍🏼

I GIVE IT A 5 STAR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
