When Lady Anne Addison returns to her home in Kent, she finds her suitor is hanging out with the gypsies nearby. She sends an angry letter to his family expressing her displeasure, only for her suitor to deny he was anywhere near the gypsies’ camp. She also learns that there is a gyspy that has cursed her friends. Are her friends’ illnesses the result of the curse or is there something more sinister involved?

Lady Anne Addison was a very likable heroine in the first book of the series. However, in this novel, I found her to be insufferable. I did not like how she treated the Marquess of Darkefell. Her attempts at trying to be an independent woman seemed completely silly. She quickly became an insipid and selfish character. Thus, her actions largely made a short read a slog for me, and I kept putting the story down wishing to not have the trouble to put up with the vapid heroine.

Overall, the third installment tied up loose ends from the first novel. This novel had a simple plot with not as much mystery as the previous novels. The scenes were very repetitive, especially the interactions between Lady Anne Addison and the Marquess of Darkefell that made the novel seem very drawn out. I was quite surprised that there is a fourth novel in this series. I was surprised because I thought Curse of the Gyspy tied everything together neatly, so that it seems more fitting to be a trilogy. While I was left wanting more from this novel, it still left me slightly more curious to read the fourth book. Still, the series as a whole is an excellent addition to those that love a cozy mystery. I recommend this for fans of Anna Lee Huber, Elizabeth Bailey, and Andrea Penrose.

I enjoyed this! This is the third book in the series, but I didn't feel lost at all. I really liked the chemistry between the two main characters, and the mystery had me guessing. Perfect for fans of Anna Lee Huber and Deanna Raybourn.

Curse of the Gypsy is the third book in the Lady Anne mystery series by Victoria Hamilton. Fans of historical romance and mystery fans will rejoice in this new series. After going to her friend Lydia's aid in York, Lady Anne met the Marquess of Darkefell, which began a romantic tension. Once the mystery in York was solved Anne moved on to visit another friend in Cornwall who was being tormented by smugglers. Darkefell followed Anne and helped out in resolving the situation. Darkefell clumsily asked Anne to marry him, in a state of confusion Anne headed for her home in Kent and Darkefell frustrated and brokenhearted returned to York.

As the hop harvest neared the Gypsy workers who helped work the fields arrived on Anne's family estate. While visiting the camp Anne spied a man that looked just like Darkefell. The man fled when she called out to him. Thinking Darkefell is skulking about her land she sent letters to Darkefell's estate manager and his mother asking what is going on. This prompted Darkefell to travel to Kent to see if it is his missing twin Julian that Anne spied. So begins another twisted tale of thwarted revenge and the beginnings of a romance that will continue into book four coming soon.

Please read the books in order as this tale is a continuation of what began in book one.

Lady Anne Addison is back home in Kent when she thinks she see's Marquess of Darkefell in the gypsy camp near her home. Upset that he might have followed her there and not given her space to figure things out she sends angry letters to him and his family. When Darkefell receives the letter he realizes that he must head to Kent to figure out what is going on. Anne is busy trying to figure out why people are getting sick and who is causing mayhem in the village. It doesn't help that the gypsy mother is going around cursing everyone. Tempers are flaring and Anne needs to figure out what is happen. A historical fiction mystery and final we will find out what's Anne's decision regarding the marriage proposal.

I enjoyed reading this book. The build up was good and this book was my favorite in the series. If you are looking for Romance and mystery then pick this one up. I would recommend you read the entire series because it is helpful to know what happened in the other books.

I read All three books in this series written so delightfully by Victoria Hamilton.
I have to say, all three books grabbed my attention and made me fell in love with this author.
The plot is interesting and intriguing. The characters are lovable and even those who are not won't go on your nerves too much.
If I had to recommend the series I would advise to read them in order because each and every one of them grows in you more and more and more.
Highly recommended!

Lady Anne is in a confounded mess, not knowing what is causing the mysterious sickness in her home that almost killed Robbie and a couple others. To top it off someone took a shot at her, and Darkefell is in the vicinity. Her distasteful letter to his home has brought not just him but his mother along. Darkefell went in search of his brother his identical twin and found a killer as well, I am still not a fan of Anne’s character but all in all it was an interesting and intriguing read.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for a review based on my honest opinion.

This is the third book in this series, and it was a wonderful wrap of the this trilogy, Lady Anne and The Marquess of Darkfell end up embroiled in another mystery and a blast from the past out Anne in danger once again. As they came closer to the moment we waited for, it was an enjoyable ride. Reading these books really lets you see what life as a headstrong spinster must have been like and her seeing her struggles at being herself and still being a lady, at the balance between giving up so much to be married, how women were thought of as a lesser class of people. In an age where women were just wives and mothers, we see that they didn’t all want to be just that and Darkfell was a man who wasn’t even interested in having a wife, but it turns out al” he needed was a strong sure woman like Anne.

Lovely series, great story and I really enjoyed the historical facts worked in to the book.

You guys, seriously. I am so stinkin' in-love with this author's writing and the amazing story that she has created with these three novels. The characters are not only complex, but memorable and beautifully human. I rarely read a book more than once, but there is no way that I will forever walk away from this series. I am already looking forward to when I will be diving into this story again, ready to reunite with the characters that have permanently etched themselves onto my heart. Thank you, Victoria Hamilton, for creating such a brilliant series that I will treasure always.

This is the only book I have read in the series and it was very good. However I need to start at the first so that I will know the backstory between Lady Anne and Lord Darkefell. Anne is a very strong character and opinionated. If you enjoy gothic mysteries, you will enjoy this series.

With cosy type mysteries and especially those with a supernatural twist, it really depends on whether it falls into the right category of cosy for me. I think, this will be a fabulous mystery series for a lot of people but for me, it was just not the right kind of cosy.

Curse of the Gypsy. Lady Anne Addison Mysteries, Book 3. Beyond the Page Publishing, 2019.
Set in the late 1700s, this book continues a trilogy that combines Georgian mysteries with a three-part historical romance. In this, the final volume, Lady Anne is back home at her Kent estate when she sees a familiar face in the nearby Gypsy camp. She opens a can of worms that lead back to the murder in the first volume, and follows

I am hoping this is not the last of Lady Anne. I’ve enjoyed the writing and the well developed, appealing characters.

I greatly enjoyed this book, and warmly recommend it.

This is the third book in the series, part mystery, historical fiction, and romance. A little too much romance for me, but overall really enjoyed the story and the mystery. I just wish there were more in this series!

Curse of the Gypsy is the third book in the Lady Anne series by Donna Lea Simpson and was first published in 2009. The series has been re-released under Simpson's pseudonym Victoria Hamilton. That seems a little confusing, but the previous books in the series that I've reviewed have had the Victoria Hamilton label.

I like this original cover much better than the most recent one.

After Lady Anne's adventures in Cornwall with The Revenge of the Barbary Ghost, she returns to her home in Kent.

So...a gypsy curse, some unexplained illnesses, a blast from the past (and we thought he was dead), a mistaken identity, the arrival of Lord Darkefell (of course), and a resolution to this series of three Lady Anne books.

Light reading and enjoyable, but maybe the first one in the series is the best.

Curse of The Gypsy is a entertaining mystery with a touch of romance. The author did a splendid job with the characters and writing.

I feel a little misled with this series. There are historical elements to the books, but like its predecessors, Curse of the Gypsy falls on the lighter side of historic fiction.

Not a bad book, but not the right book for this particular reader.

A new mystery with links to the past!

On her return to Kent from her time in Yorkshire and Cornwall, Anne is dismayed to catch a glimpse of her determined suitor, Anthony, the Marquess of Darkefell, in a gypsy camp on her family property.
Suitably cross Anne pens a letter to the Marquess and his family. A letter that brings them all to Kent.
Again mysteries beget mysteries and death stalks them all. Gypsy curses, stolen property and mob mentalities play a part.
Anne and Darkefell come to the heart of the past as it intrudes on the present to a shocking conclusion.
Anne continues to struggle with her anxities about marriage and the loss of independence.
The outcome is littered with misunderstandings and dark deeds and a return to the original scene of troubles--Yorkshire!
A fitting, yet complex closure!
This tale was originally published by Donna Lea Simpson. It has been updated and republished under Simpson's pseudonym, Victoria Hamilton.
