An enjoyable - if rather silly - thriller which I found very readable, even though I didn't like most of the characters! The cat and mouse game between femme fatale Roux and seemingly perfect housewife Amy was a fun ride, and I liked the teenage Luca (about the only nice character in the novel!). A fun read. |
Plot: ''It starts with a game at a book club one night. Never Have I Ever done something I shouldn't...'' A very satisfying read, You get that ominous feeling from very early on & it remains throughout the cat-and-mouse game that follows. People: Multi-layered characters. Amy is feisty but likable and Roux is the perfect villain of the story. Pace: Fast-paced read, I could turn the pages fast enough - I needed to know what happened! |
Wow a real page turner. Absolutely loved this book and could not put this down. Some great little twists at the end that I did not see coming. Kept me on the edge of my seat. |

Unfortunately for me this was a book I had heard quite a bit about on YouTube and I did not get around to finishing however I may get back to this one at some other time, I feel its only fair to give it a middle of the road rating as I didn't complete reading it. |
Thankyou to NetGalley, Bloomsbury Publishing, Raven Books and the author, Joshilyn Jackson, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Never Have I Ever in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion. Well. What can I say. I was extremely excited to read this story after reading an extract which had me well and truly hooked. I needed to see where the author was going to take me. I was definitely not disappointed. The storyline was well written. The characters are interesting and very compelling. It keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. 3.5 stars. Well worth a read |
Amy Whey is proud of her ordinary life and the simple pleasures that come with it—teaching diving lessons, baking cookies for new neighbors, helping her best friend, Charlotte, run their local book club. Her greatest joy is her family: her devoted professor husband, her spirited fifteen-year-old stepdaughter, her adorable infant son. And, of course, the steadfast and supportive Charlotte. But Amy’s sweet, uncomplicated life begins to unravel when the mysterious and alluring Angelica Roux arrives on her doorstep one book club night. This book is predictable and boring, I was sent this book by netgallery and the reason i applied for this book is because it was advertised as a thriller almost horror story, so i thought, "this definitely feels right up my alley!" And the beginning felt definitely thrillerish a group of woman in a book club in a basement, all are having a normal night when suddenly a haunting figure arrives and plays never have i ever and things get interesting ........... or so you are lead to believe, for me i believed the story would remain in this one room and as the night goes on and the alcohol spreads the woman will tell there deepest secrets and it would all be bitchy and murder and betrayal! ........ but nope all you get is basically blackmail, which yes is a scary thing to experience, but is was all handled boring, i struggled to read it after i found out this fact as it focused on 1 character and the twist and turns where obvious and yeah just boring for me. I want to say thank you from netgallery for the book, but for the average reader, I can only be honest and say this book was boring and really not worth your time or money. |
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading. I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review. |
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book. After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley. I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. Natalie. |

A gripping psychological thriller, I read it with a knot in my stomach. Very good indeed, I will definitely read more by this author. |
This story has an element of past/present. There were great characters, superb plot, and twists that you never saw coming. I couldnt put this book down. I actually felt like I was watching a movie. I just wanted to know more and more. It mentioned places I have been so I just loved it. I had heard in my book clubs on how good it was I was pleasantly suprised to see that was right.!! Highly recommend. |
This book was a little too disjointed for me but I do think it would be a great intro for anyone looking to get into the thriller genre. A cat and mouse story, Never Have I Ever has enough mystery and intrigue to keep you going. Seasoned thriller readers might find the pace a little too slow but first timers will be engaged by the chase that ensues. |

THis begins with a great sounding evening - books, wine and friend. A new neighbour and a bit too much drink and secrets start to be exposed. There was lots of tension between the characters and interesting dynamics. A really good read |
OK beach read thriller that rattles along well enough. Felt the characterisation was a bit weak and didn't really buy into any of the charcters as believable people. But, for what it was trying to do, it was fine. |
A great thriller that keeps you hooked to the end. Packed full of power-play and an endless game of cat and mouse, the drama between Roux and Amy will ensure you turn pages faster than ever before. |
Amy lives in a cosy suburb in Pensacola, Florida. Her marriage is happy, her stepdaughter is a treasure, she is smitten by her recently arrived baby and she has a tight bond with her best friend Charlotte. Until Roux arrives and starts to unravel Amy's life, uncovering dirty secrets from the past which have been successfully hidden from Amy's nearest and dearest. Amy must fight for her friend and family but how far is she prepared to go? An excellent page-turner of a thriller. Amy is an engaging narrator and her confession to the reader of her sins and frailties and strengths is convincing and winning. There are real moments of tension and a zinger of a reveal which the more canny reader may spot in advance (I was bushwhacked!). Well written and pacy. There are some contemplative moments - Amy takes great comfort in scuba diving - but these add to rather than hinder the plot. The ending is rather hurried and melodramatic but ultimately satisfying. Well recommended. |
7this was an enjoyable read from start to end, however I did find it all a little bit too predictable at times. However, the story itself is well written and the characterisation is brilliant, and I would certainly recommend it to others to read. |
Never Have I Ever is a psychological thriller revolving around suburban wife and mom Amy, and newcomer Roux, who as it turns out, happens to know Amy's deepest, darkest secret. It spirals downward with thrills and chills, blackmail and violence. The character types themselves all seemed a wee bit stereotyped and at first it seemed a bit too Desperate Housewives, but once it got going, it really got going. The plot itself took many twists and turns, genuinely kept me engaged and surprised, with a satisfying ending. Very cleverly written, so I'd definitely recommend it. |
This was a good read; well-written although slightly predictable at times. It dragged a little at points. Would recommend. |
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this before publication. A deceptive read, where nothing is quite as it seems and our hero is (in some ways) just as bad as the villain. The story begins in a way that almost had me switching off. A mum’s book club in a well-to-do neighbourhood full of women who are obsessed with their appearance and getting one over on the neighbours. The opening focuses on the appearance of a new neighbour, Angelica Roux, and her childish game of ‘Never Have I’ which seems a way of prising secrets out of those present. Before we know it, Roux is trying to blackmail our main character, Amy, out of nearly a quarter of a million dollars. Slowly we unpick why Amy has become a mark. We learn of some of the secrets she’s been hiding from those around her. Though, perhaps, they come from good motives, there’s no doubting that she has skeletons aplenty. It then becomes a question of which of these game-players will come out on top. There’s some tense moments. We also get into some murky territory regarding Amy’s past...though nothing is quite as awful as what we learn about Roux. When faced with something so awful, I have to wonder who would be prepared to overlook Amy’s actions. No easy answers here. No black or white response is evident, and the shades explored certainly made this more intriguing than first impressions seemed to warrant. |
