Raised Old Order Amish, Ivy Zook dreams of leaving the community. Although she loves her family, party planning is her passion... one the requires modern conveniences like WIFI and websites. When she shares her plans with her mother, Ivy finds that her timing can be tricky for her sister Holly's impending wedding.

At the same time, Arlan and his sister, Magda, arrive in town. Brother and sister seeking refuge from a strict sect, the two find themselves a haven with the Zooks. There Magda begins to recover from a difficult pregnancy and Arlan helps on the farm. While both Arlan and Ivy wrestle with the guidelines of their religion, they also struggle to understand the other's viewpoint. How can one sect differ so much from another? And what does God want for both their lives?

Although this book is written as a sequel to The Christmas Remedy, A Christmas Haven reads well as a stand alone book, the characters beautifully brought to life and the storyline engaging. Cindy and Erin Woodsmall did a great job illustrating the differences between the Swartzentruber Amish and the Old Order Amish, something that I didn't know about prior to this book. It was interesting to see how the different orders view life, God, and religion. I was drawn into the book pretty quickly, especially when I realized what a desperate situation Arlan and Magda were in. Although there were parts of the story that were predictable, the authors did keep me guessing on a few key points and I thoroughly enjoyed A Christmas Haven right up to the end.

When I choose books from NetGalley I generally just look for books by my favorite authors and then request them. I had no idea that this book would be a follow up to the Christmas Remedy that the Woodsmall ladies had written previously. However, it is! And it is delightful! The story, named A Christmas Haven, centers on Holly’s sister Ivy and her confusion about remaining Amish. Holly was the young woman in the first book who found love despite her yearning to bring medicine to her community. This story also follows up with her upcoming marriage and learning to accept the choices God has for her life. We also meet Arlan and Magda, a brother and sister from an ultra conservative Amish community. Arlan is looking for answers and trying to help his sister, but feels torn between God’s grace and the rules of men, especially his father. Can Ivy and Arlan help each other discover what God has in store? And will Holly remember the promise of love, even when things don’t follow her plans? I would definitely recommend this book. It is a sweet heartfelt story with a good message about faith and finding answers in God’s word. I received a free copy of this story from NetGalley. all opinions are my own.

Wow! Another great book by Cindy Woodsmall and Erin Woodsmall! In this story, Old Order Amish Ivy is struggling with her passion for party planning vs the requirements of her Amish community and family. Meanwhile, Arlan and his sister have family issues that become intertwined with Ivy's family. The stories unfold throughout the book, weaving in and out of each individuals struggles and growth. Very real-to-life fiction with romance. GREAT Amish fiction!!!

This is a very well written book. The authors have a way with words that makes the book come to life. This is a heartwarming story about putting others before yourself and how God always has the best plan for your life, you just have to trust Him, even when it's hard. A wonderful book with a beautiful message. Thank you WaterBrook & Multnomah via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own and I highly recommend this book.

It took me a little bit to get all the characters in order, straight in my head, but then it was easier to follow the various storylines. Each of the various main characters has their own baggage and their own crosses to bear, and the supporting characters seem to be people we should have a bit of information about (possibly from a previous novel?), but it doesn't detract from the story, just leaves you wondering about a few of the comments. The brother seems to play a larger role toward the end, which leaves me wondering if the next book will focus on him...
