This was a wonderfully well written descriptive novel. Well plotted with well developed characters.

A quiet suburban neighborhood filled this thriller with enough angst to keep me flipping the pages.

Affairs, break ins, secrets, lies, a missing woman later found dead is just some of what you will find in this amazing thriller.

Shari Lapena does it again.

Thanks to Net galley for the opportunity to review this book and one of my favorite authors.

3.5 stars

I thought the book had an interesting plot. It kept me guessing until the end. I had my suspicious and I was right. I was overwhelmed by all the characters. I felt like they were too many and it was hard to keep track of everyone. However it was intriguing to see how they were all connected.
I wasn’t a big fan of the style of writing. It would have been better executed if there were separate POVs.

I would recommend it to suspense/thriller readers.

Fun fact: Shari LaPena’s couple next door was the very thriller I read and from there I was hooked. I look forward to her new books ever year and just can’t get enough. If you’re thinking what!?! I’m a wuss and don’t like scary things that’s why it took me so long to read a thriller.

Someone We Know doesn’t disappoint. There are really two plots going on. One with the Sharpe family and one of their neighbor being murdered, Amanda Pierce. LaPena creates a web of you think you know who did it but then another theory pops into mind by the next chapter. I developed about 3 different people of whodunit and sort of suspected the killer in the end. By the way my 3 different people were all innocent.

Of course she leaves a cliffhanger at the end. I want more of this story. What happened to that thing? Tell me!

Thank you to the publisher for my advanced copy in exchange for my review. I’m extremely grateful to you.

First line: She’s standing in the kitchen, looking out the large back windows.

Summary: In a small suburban town a teenage boy has been sneaking into his neighbors’ homes and looking at their computers. When his mother finds out about his activities she hopes to make amends by sending anonymous letters to the homeowners. However, this is not the only secret that is hiding in this neighborhood. Amanda Pierce, a young new resident, is found murdered after being reported missing by her husband. As the police investigate secrets start to unravel leading to everyone suspecting each other. Who killed Amanda?

My Thoughts: I would not classify this as a thriller. It feels more like a really fun mystery novel. A who done it, in its finest form. No one is free from suspicion. Everyone has a motive. I loved how quickly the story unfolded. With each chapter there were new revelations. I did not figure out the killer till the very end. It was a great read with lots of twists and turns.

I wish I could have read it with better formatting or in paper form. The egalley was smooshed together so it was hard to follow when the characters changed.

FYI: Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy of Someone We Know by Shari Lapena.

Someone We Know is a domestic thriller that centers itself around a group of friends who live in the same neighborhood. I was really worried that this would be very similar to the rest of the books that Lapena has written and was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't. There are lots of twists within this book and I swore I had it all figured out more than once. I was surprised by the ending and appreciated the ending. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I do wish that Lapena would write something out of her element and stray from the domestic thriller genre, but I will say that she is a master at said genre!

I think Lapena has written some of the best domestic suspense out there, but this book fell incredibly flat to me. This is largely due to the fact that the characters were all horrendous. Not that they were badly written, but the men were shits, the women were idiots, and the teenagers were just too teenaged. I didn't care who killed the neighbor. Or what happened to any of the other neighbors. The relationship between the murder victim and her husband was never satisfactorily explained. Add to that a plot that's focused on potential adultery, ad this was a major swing and miss to me. It could have been so much better. I still have hope for Lapena's next book though, because this was her first strikeout in my book.

"We all wear masks. We all have something to hide at one point or another."

Aylesford, a charming city in New York's Hudson Valley -- close to the Catskill Mountains -- is a "congenial place to live." Until a quiet neighborhood is rocked by the news of a murder of one of the residents. In addition, a teenager has confessed to sneaking into homes and hacking into owners' computers. What secrets lie hidden behind the charming facade of this sleepy suburbia?

The dead woman, Amanda Pierce, was reported missing by her husband. We all know the police usually figure him to be the number one suspect. But in this particular case there is no shortage of possible perpetrators as more shady information is discovered by Detectives Webb and Moen. In this hotbed enclave that sounds more like Peyton Place (I'm dating myself here) than idyllic haven, the neighbors seem to have a lot to hide. As tension mounts and suspicions simmer and details are confirmed, the truth is revealed. It always comes out in the end. NO SPOILERS.

This was a very fast-paced and entertaining book that I could not put down until I read it, in one sitting, cover to cover. The characters are a fascinating mix and their believability is compelling as each is put under a microscope. I could not wait to find out the surprising conclusion as I analyzed the clues while the narrative perspective shifted between the characters in this drama. Excellent writing propelled me forward as the focus narrowed. Who did what? Another summer blockbuster no doubt and again, one that should be slated for a television deal for sure. I enjoy novels by this author as she does a wonderful job examining what appears to be a nice little neighborhood, but isn't.

Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher, Pamela Dorman Books/Viking, for the e-book ARC to read and review. This is another absorbing and fun novel of domestic suspense and I can't wait to read Shari Lapena's next book!

I have enjoyed Shari Lapena’s other books, I read one each year and they are always enjoyable enough. I wouldn’t say this one is her best, I remember being a bit more surprised at the twist in “An Unwanted Guest”. In this book, there were a few different suspects so I was really trying to figure it out. I didn’t, though the suspect didn’t surprise me. I think it went back and forth so much that I started to not care. The last chapter or two dragged on, I just wanted it to end. Before then, I probably would have given it a 3.5 or 4. It was still well written so 3 stars from me.

Cover art: nothing special, pretty ordinary
Length: Good length, just ran long near the end
Twistiness: not great
Who I recommend it to: If you enjoy casual thrillers and/or other Shari Lapena books

Despite all this, thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

As always, Shari Lapena grabs you from the very first page. This was a fun, quick twisty read with a large cast of suspects. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, you realize you have no idea.

*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Pamela Dorman Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.*

Shari Lapena is one of my favorite thriller writers. She's a solid writer when it comes to classic character-driven mystery/thriller situation. Her books aren't usually extremely shocking or gore-y. I'm not a huge fan of books that are gore-y just for the sake of shock value, or books that have shocking situations that add very little to the plot (besides shock value).

This book follows multiple characters and is told from multiple POVs. This story takes place in an upstate NY suburb where the murder of a young and beautiful resident occurs. There's also a teen that's breaking into houses in the neighborhood and snooping on people's computers. There's a lot happening while we're trying to figure out who killed this lady.

This was Shari Lapena's least shocking thriller, in my opinion. There was a lot of build up and speculation that made the whole experience of reading quite suspenseful. I think that the resolution was a little bit rushed, I wish that there had been a little bit more conflict once the killer was revealed. I totally guessed what the conclusion was going to be about 70% through the book, so the reveal wasn't as surprising as I hoped it would be.

Overall, this was pretty good. I enjoyed reading it, but it wasn't my favorite of Shari Lapena's books. My favorite is still The Couple Next Door, but only by a small margin.

Another great thriller from Shari Lapena! While I didn’t love this in the same way I adored An Unwanted Guest, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Lapena is skilled at crafting books that are difficult to put down until the roaring conclusion.

Murder mystery with a huge cast of characters. Everyone is a suspect and just when you think you have it all figured out, the author throws in another twist. Solid writing and plotline.

This book had a good mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I didn't see the killer coming or the cover-up. I thought the story dragged on a little bit and could have moved faster. I liked how the characters were easy to tell apart and how quick the story moved among the different character stories. I think I have found a new favorite mystery author!

I Love Shari Lapena's books and this one is no different! I was completely entranced by this book and cant wait to see what she comes up with next

Shari Lapena has moved her name up my list of favorite authors. Someone We Know is a domestic thriller of lies and deceit. One gorgeous neighbor is dead. Olive's son is up to no good. Her husband is acting strange. Beth has a secret. So does her husband. Glenda's teenage son is drinking too much, and who knows what's going on with her husband. The new neighbor is knocking on doors and asking questions. What about Robert? Did he or didn't he? You'll have to read the book to unravel the secrets in this neighborhood, and you'll be glad you did!

Shari Lapena has a knack for writing mysteries, and this one is good, if a bit obvious at times. Her tension is taut and the characters are both believable and sympathetic.

I love love love Shari Lapena so I was very excited to have a chance to read this book. I had just finished "An Unwanted Guest" (also great) so I dove right into this one after that book. Every chance I had this weekend, I would pick up this book and read it, and get annoyed when I had to do anything other than read. There were a lot of twists and false leads to solving the mystery, which I think makes it seem very realistic, and it kept me guessing until the end. Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this book!
