I really liked this book- I finished it in the middle of the night because I couldn't go to sleep until I knew what happened. It centers around Gemma, who recently moved from London to Bristol with her husband Danny, when a few weeks after the move, Danny disappears. There are also a handful of unsolved murders in which the victims look similar to Danny and no one knows if there is a connection or not.

I love a good unreliable narrator story and that is what you get with Gemma. She sticks to her story and the police don't believe her- the reader is torn between what is plausible versus what actually happened. I went back and forth in thinking I knew what was happening from beginning to end.

The end surprised me, which is hard to do, and tied together all the loose ends nicely. The last chapter of the book, which takes place a few months later, tied everything up a little too nicely, though- I would have been fine without that chapter at all.

Overall, this is a wild ride and I would recommend this book. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks Netgalley and to the publisher for the advance ecopy. A page turner for sure! A bit repetitive bit held my interest. Suspenseful. Gemma's husband doesn't come home. Nothing points to him leaving other than going to work. There's a serial killer going around killing people that look similar to Danny. Gemma starts to wonder if he was a victim. She finds out that he has been lying to her. Very twisty.

Gemma came home one day to find her husband, Danny, gone. It was not out of the ordinary. Everything that was missing pointed to him just going to work, but he never came back home. There is a serial killer on the loose in Bristol. Gemma walked into the local police station to make a missing person report. DCI Helena is the point person on the case. The similarity of Danny and the other victims were undeniable, and so the story spirals. Was Danny the third victim in the serial killer case? If he was a victim, where is the body? As the investigation progresses, Gemma found out Danny has been lying about a numerous things. Was their relationship based on a big lie?

The story started out as a case about a serial killer, but then it shifted to focus mainly on Danny and Gemma. There are some good twists to the story, but that’s where the captivation ends.  DCI Helena core focus was to prove that Gemma had killed Danny. However, as any real situation, no detective would just hone in on one suspect because of one victim. Where was the connection between Gemma and the other victims? This was not explored within the story. It mainly focused this story on the relationship between the husband and wife. It would have been great if the author left the serial killer part out all together. Then, without going into the story and ruining it for future readers, there was a part what Danny did to Gemma that was never explained. Why did he do it?

What a fun book! Twisty, suspenseful.... I figured out pretty early on who the serial killer was, but was still stumped on motive and means, and I was guessing right up until the end. Oh, speaking 9f the ending-- I don't want to give anything away, but I adore happy little surprises bestowed upon likeable, deserving protagonists. I think this book will sell itself, but I'll be doing my part in recommending it, as well. I can't wait to read book from Jackie Kabler in the future.

A very quick read! Great for the Beach or a plane trip but a little predictable?! Still a fun little psychological thriller that seems to be getting more popular these days! Author even left the end open for a possible sequel??? Thanks for my advanced readers copy!

Wow what a great story so well written kept me gripped and guessing and second guessing right til the very end !!

Gemma and Danny have the perfect marriage, or so Gemma would have police believe. One day when Gemma comes home, Danny is gone. She contacts the police only to find a serial killer with a very particular victim type is at large in the area. All the victims look just like Danny. Gemma is terrified for her husband, but police aren’t buying it; she says he’s been missing for two days, but no one else has seen Danny for weeks. This is a twisted mystery that kept me guessing until the end

This mystery keeps the reader waiting for what might happen next. I guessed the outcome early on but still wanted to see how the story would end. The language should be toned down-that would not take away from the theme of the story and the actions of the characters. Vulgarity does not add to the telling. I liked this book and will look forward to more from this author.

After spending more hours than I would care to acknowledge on every mystery/suspense/thriller book that I can get my hands on, I will own that I have a problem. I realize that I am addicted to this genre, but with that knowledge, it is apparent that I have also become desensitized to the tropes, plot twists, shocks, thrills, mind benders, etc.

As of late, my approach has been to dial down the expectations and critique each story based upon its readability and entertainment value. 'The Perfect Couple' was a quick read that flowed well and kept me engaged. Although my suspicions came to fruition, the author did a great job of creating a couple of diversions and threw in a red herring here and there. I was very much entertained with this book. My only complaint was at times the narrative was redundant, especially at the end. It became drawn out, repetitive, as the reader was debriefed on the details of the investigation and the motive... but it was still a fun title. I would definitely recommend it.

Honestly I wasn’t a fan of The Perfect Couple. I loved Am I Guilty and maybe my expectations were a little high but this book just didn’t work for me at all.

It’s a great idea but very little happens within a large part of the book and I feel it could have been shortened without losing any of the story. It’s all a bit of a cliche.

This had all the right parts to be a great crime thriller but I found myself bored and aware of what was going to happen next. The twist wasn’t a surprise and I found the ending frustrating.

I’ve been reading a lot of thrillers lately and 2020 is shaping up to be a good year for them.

The book follows Gemma and also the investigation into two murders in Bristol. When Gemma arrives home to find her partner Danny missing, she winds up reporting him missing - and is shocked to find the victims of the murders all look like Danny.

With the police on the hunt for a serial killer, they aren’t convinced by Gemma’s story. She’s the only one who’s seen Danny in weeks and there is barely any trace of him in her apartment.

This book was really well paced. I thought the tempo was just right and the characters were well developed. I also enjoyed the twist and the ending was satisfying. I flew through this in one sitting. Definitely one to add to your 2020 to be read list
