Another fantastic read from Shalini Boland! Unlike most of her other books, it took me a little while to really get hooked with this one but once I did, I couldn't stop reading. |
I always really enjoy Shalini Boland's books and I totally spaced not having read this one already. This is basically every mom's worst nightmare. Faye's husband takes her son on an early morning walk during their family holiday...and they don't come back. Her son's baseball hat is found on a cliff, and Faye contacts the police to begin the frantic search for her son. This book blew me away. I knew there would be a twist, but the end of the book was so satisfying. I love when a monster character gets the justice he so rightly deserves. I LOVED that Faye planned this elaborate murder all along with her husband's very own sister. I only took off a star because the police aspect seemed so unresolved. Faye leaves the country, meets up with Dylan, and there's no police resolution. They just leave her to disappear? That didn't really make sense to me. Other than that, I loved this book so much. Another great Bookouture book. |
THE MARRIAGE BETRAYAL is a gripping psychological thriller by bestselling author Shalini Boland. Her Novels Include: A Shirtful of Frogs (2012) The Girl from the Sea (2016) The Best Friend (2016) The Millionaire's Wife (2017) The Secret Mother (2017) The Child Next Door (2018) The Silent Sister (2018) The Perfect Family (2018) The Marriage Betrayal (2019) The Other Daughter (2019) One of Us Is Lying (2020) Faye Townsend has organized a surprise summer getaway birthday for her husband, Jake and seven- year- old son, Dylan. They are also joined along with Jake’s younger sister, Lainy, husband Tom and two young daughters, Annabel and seven- year- old Poppy, to the seaside town of Swanage where Jake and Lainy grew up. But everything doesn’t plan out as intended. When they arrive at the house they have rented, they are greeted by the owner…which was strange. The house is old and Jake doesn’t seem to want to be there. Was this trip a mistake? Faye is an artist who put aside her career when she fell pregnant, and now illustrates and designs web pages for her husband’s company. They celebrate Jake’s birthday out for dinner in town, but soon agree to head back home later the next day, but after Jake has taken Dylan out to the cliffs to view the dolphins, and the women and children have spent the day at the beach. Jake and Dylan go for an early morning walk along the beautiful, windswept clifftops…but they don’t come back! As the hours tick by, Dylan’s red baseball cap is found on the beach and Faye finds herself being questioned by the police. They want to know everything about the man she married - is Faye ready to face her husband’s dark past? Or will she have to confront her own secrets first? How far will a mother go to save her only child? This utterly gripping psychological thriller will appeal to a wide audience, with a strong plot, memorable relatable characters and an explosive twisted ending. All I can say is sit back and enjoy. Highly recommended! Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy. |

This book was one twist after another! It was nearly impossible to put down and kept me on the edge of my seat! It had many suspenseful moments and some very heartfelt ones as well. |
This was another brilliant book from Shalini Boland. she is one of my favourite authors and her books are so well written with great plots and characters. This one is better than the last and I expect the next to be better than this. She’s just that kind of author. A 5/5 on goodreads |
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I have now had the pleasure to read a couple of books by this author and have really enjoyed all of her books. The Marraige Betrayal will keep you page turning till you reach the last chapter. Faye surprises her husband Jake for his birthday by renting a house for their family and his sister's in their home town. She is surprised when neither him or his sister is eager to return. Why do they not want to go back. What are they hiding. The mystery deepens when Fay's husband Jake goes missing with their young son a few days in to the holiday. Faye must turn to her sister in law Lainey for answers. A twisty read, that will not disappoint. Totally recommend. |

Brilliant!!! Shalini boland has done it again. Just when you think you can see how the plot unfolds, BAM!!!! ....its all turned upside down. As with her other books, this was fast paced, gripping and twists and turns galore. Another brilliant read that I can't recommend enough. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
I never miss an opportunity to read a book by Shalini Boland! I have read several, and they never disappoint. I tore through this one quickly on vacation, and when it finished I instantly looked at if I had more from this author on my TBR list because I was ready for more! I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review |
Shalini Boland has done it again !! WOW !! I am absolutely amazed, she really is the perfectionist of psychological thrillers. Always deeply twisted and full of tension, I love the suspense and dark storylines everytime. I love Shalini Boland and I always look forward to her new releases with much anticipation. Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the wonderful privilege of reviewing your arc. |
I love Shalini Boland and The Marriage Betrayal is my favorite book so far. Gorgeous, beyond gorgeous cover, and expert storytelling. Boland was meant to tell this story! |
A great psychological thriller - two stories alternating between present day and the past when they were teenagers. It has a great twist and kept me reading!! I love Shalini Boland and she certainly didn't disappoint with this one. Thanks to Shalini Boland, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC of this book! |
Wow ! Loved it ! You are so into reading the normal banter between a family and a few flashbacks of their childhood that when the actual twist comes.. Bang !!! Now you are alert, trying to think back to the beginning of the story, looking for clues and hints to actually make sense of the twist. You can see there were suttle hints and clues, but they seem so generic the first time. It's when the actual twist happens and that too towards the end of the story, that everything falls into place. The distress caused at the disappearance of Faye's family and how Lainy and Tom support her is so genuine, that you get completely sidetracked. And then, there's the epilogue. Leaving us questioning if the story is really over ! I gave one star less because I would have liked more details about what exactly happened and what went through the abuser's mind. Did he realize what had just happened? Did he realize why he was in this predicament? Faye didn't have to know, but we could've known. |

Captivating, suspenseful, entertaining novel! This beautiful thriller kept me on the edge of my seat while I was reading it! Would highly recommend to those who enjoy this genre. |
Shalini Boland is one of my favorite authors, so I was very excited to be approved for this book. As are the rest of her books, this was a genuine page-turner that kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending blindsided me in the best way possible! The twists and turns kept me guessing and I never felt complacent or bored with the storyline. Fantastic book! |

Amazing book which is no surprise by Ms Boland. I thought I had it figured out and I was so glad that I wasn’t exactly right. So many wonderful twists and turns in all of her novels. It’s always a pleasure to read her books. The whole time I was thinking what’s the betrayal? It became a mantra haha. |
Faye and Jake and their son Dylan, along with Jake's sister, her husband and their two little girls are spending a week in the small seaside town where Jake and his sister grew up. This was supposed to be a birthday surprise for Jake, but things aren't as much fun as they first thought. Jake is quiet, a bit morose, and he hates surprises. They all decide to leave early as no one is happy, other than the kids. Jake and Dylan go for an early morning walk, hoping to spot some dolphins in the sea. They never return. As the hours pass, all Faye can think of is the possibility that they may have fallen off a cliff ... been washed out to sea and drowned ... caught in an underwater cave. When the police spot Dylan's red baseball cap and spots of blood, everyone thinks the worst may have happened. Faye finds herself being questioned by the police and what the police have found and now tell her spells out something that she would never have imagined. Did her husband have a deep dark secret kept hidden all these years? This absorbing tale is well written with stand out characters. The suspense is well paced starting at the very beginning and not subsiding until the very unpredictable ending and the huge twist it presents. Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own. |

Twists and turns that keep you guessing! Faye’s husband and child go missing while on a holiday and her whole world falls apart! She desperately searches for them but there is a whole lot more than meets the eye. This was a great book that had you constantly surprised. Well worth a read! #themarraigebetrayal #shaliniboland #netgalley |
This was a brilliant book. It starts off with a family vacation that it seems not everybody really wanted to go on. Then a husband and his son go missing. The rest of the book revolves around the investigation to find the man and his son. Meanwhile there is a small backstory that you should really give attention to.... with all that's revealed at the end with a shocking twist and twirl! Highly recommended. |
