I haven't been reading as much as I used to. It seems like everything I pick up is something I've already read. I used to read nothing but paranormal romance. The needing something different and new is why I got away from it. Abigail Owen gave me a fascinating paranormal romance with The Rogue King. Hiding among us simple humans are a vast variety of paranormal beings. The Dragon Clans are fighting wars between themselves. Many of them believe that to get to the top of the food chain they need a phoenix.

All Brand wants is to belong to a clan. He is willing to do anything to get in the good graces of the blue king Ladon. Ladon wants a phoenix. See where this is going. All the twists Owen throws in with this chase is what makes this such a good read. Nothing goes the way Brand has planned. The phoenix that he goes after is far more than he ever expected. Kasia turns out to be a woman that he wants.

Kasia knows why she is sought after by so many of the paranormal beings that should be her allies Her mother taught her how to hide, run, fight, how to protect herself from those that would harm her for their own personal gain. Kasia follows her mothers wishes. She has something important herself that she needs to protect. Brand coming to collect her is not how she planed things but who is she to dismiss the sexy dragon that has come for he.

I found the hierarchy fascinating. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I want to see how it will play out. I'm curious about where the phoenix aspect is going to take this series.

Book 1 in the Inferno Rising series, The Rogue Kind, is an action paced, compelling read. Brand and Kaisa are well suited, engaging characters and are surrounded by an amazing support cast. I will be reading more of this series and by this author.

*New author for me

I LOVED this story. I have to say at; first, I was like what am I reading, and I was a little not confused, just kind of not into it. But it did not take long for me to jump into the story and not want to put it down.

The Rogue King is a story about the dragon fractions, war, the phoenix history, and finding your mate. This story is so much more than just an ordinary dragon story. Abigail brought a new storyline to the dragon theme, and I loved it.

The Rogue King is an action-packed story with compelling characters that will make you fall in love. The males are strong, and alpha, but the woman are just as strong and will take them on when they have to.
I can not wait to see what is next. This book doesn't end on a cliffhanger for the two main characters, but the storyline does go on. So I am ready for the next one, now, please!

This was such a great read – I can’t wait to read more in this series! I was so impressed by the world and character building in this action-packed, enthralling story, I didn’t want to put it down as so much could change so quickly.

If you enjoy superbly crafted paranormal stories involving dragon and wolf shifters, vampires, witches and even a phoenix (or more!) then look no further and grab yourself a copy of this book. I am so happy to discover it is the first in a new series and whilst the initial confrontations may have been resolved for Kasia, it sounds like now the action will move on to her sisters – and I await their stories in eager anticipation!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion after thoroughly enjoying reading It.

The Rogue King is book one in the Inferno Rising series by Abigail Owens. I was so excited! We were treated to dragon shifters! Probably one of my favorite types of shifters.

We get a brief overview of the world and the phoenix characters at the beginning so we kind of have a starting point. Phoenixes are rare and as far as we know, Kasia and her sisters are the only ones left alive. Since acquiring their powers and being teleported to different safe places over a year ago, Kasia has been trying to deal with everything on her own. When the side effects of her powers get to be too much, she seeks help with paranormal medical staff, only to be betrayed.

News gets out that there is a phoenix and the search is on by dragon clans to get to her first. Brand, a rogue dragon shifter working for the king of the Blue Dragon Clan, finds Kasia first. She isn’t going to just get picked up easily though. She has some skills and she’s going to do her best to get away, just as her mother taught her.

I found I liked Kasia. She seemed to really grow throughout the book. In the beginning, she seems very unsure of herself and what she is doing in the world, but as her journey with Brand goes on, she gains confidence and strength. By the end of the book, I felt like Kasia was a different person. She had definitely become worthy of being a queen of a dragon clan.

Brand and Kasia work hard at containing their relationship so that the initial plan Brand was sent out with is what is carried out. Kasia sees the wisdom in it when she reaches the Blue Clan and the two try their hardest to stick to it. Despite how miserable it makes them.

I was kind of disappointed in Kasia when she takes it into her head that Brand used her. It was very frustrating getting ready to go to war with the Gold clan in the middle of controversy between the two. The battle was intense and had me holding my breath for a bit. Kasia and Brand are true warriors and fight hard.

The ending was left with some mystery and animosity. I’m eager to find out more about our new character and the continuing storyline of Kasia’s mother’s killer. This world of dragons was fascinating and exciting. I’ll be watching for the sequel in the Inferno Rising series!

The Rogue King is the first book in the Inferno Rising series, and has firmly placed this author on my favourites list, even though this is the first book of hers I have read!

It has quite a sad beginning, which sets the story for the rest of it. You immediately get a feel of who is 'good' and who is 'bad', even if the characters themselves are unsure just where they belong. Speaking of the characters, I loved Brand and Kasia. They are the perfect match, and I loved Kasia's stubborn, feisty, yet at times oh-so-logical attitude. Brand is the possessive alpha who has no idea he's met the woman who is his perfect match.

The story is intriguing from start to finish, and I really want to continue with this series. I need to know more about each of the sisters, and just what their stories will be. The epilogue is intriguing and I can't wait to see the sparks between Skylar and Ladon.

It's not very often I will give out a five-star review for the first of a series, but this one just ticked all of my boxes, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Absolutely recommended by me.

I loved Abigail Owen's Fire's Edge series, so when I was given the opportunity to begin reading another I immediately took advantage. I loved every word of this story. I admit I can't recall ever reading a novel that included a phoenix so that in itself made it all the more interesting. Brand was an enigma, Kasia headstrong and unrelenting. Combine the two and you have a steamy, highly combustible, hard to put down book!

Because of who – and what – she is, Kasia Amon is a master at hiding. To dragon shifters, she’s a treasure to be taken and claimed and there’s a sexy dragon shifter in town hunting for her and she can’t stop bursting into flames. Turning a phoenix over to the feared Blood King would get Brand Astarot one step closer to the revenge he’s waited centuries for. But when Kasia sparks a white-hot need inside him – he’ll have to make a new plan: claim her for himself and take back his birthright.

The ‘Inferno Rising’ series is off to a fabulous start – one that gets the adrenaline pumping, the heart pounding and the passions soaring. The strong, sexy and bold characters are too die for… they have some uber hot chemistry and have sparks flying in every direction throughout their turbulent relationship. They both are very stubborn and are quite perfect for each other as they continuously overlook what right in front of their hearts while juggling everything that life is throwing at them which has some pretty heavy emotional turmoil flowing from the pages as well.

The plot is fast paced, extremely engaging and suspenseful, guaranteeing that readers can’t put this book down as Brand takes steps to secure his path of revenge. But with enemies dogging their every step, explosive battles and the passion continuously building between them, Brand has to entertain some new, radical ideas if he wants to claim Kasia. The author has also introduced more elements to her world which promises more exciting possibilities are in store for this series while some stunning ‘OH MY’ moments and unexpected twists keeps the adrenaline pumping throughout this energetic, exhilarating and satisfying dragon shifter story.

This is definitely what I would describe as a good fun read, something that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still has you totally caught up in all the action and drama.

I like to read these kinds of books, ones I like to call guilty pleasures, if I’ve been reading anything too heavy and this one came at the perfect time. I think what I liked about this one is that even though I’ve read about shifters before I’ve never read about dragon shifters or phoenix shifters for that matter so it was something a little different.

The plot was also really interesting, the different clans and where they are hidden, royal lineage and usurpers, there was a lot going on other than just a blossoming romance with an added bit of action. I liked that everyone had a separate goal and that they were working toward that even when they were joining forces with each other.

Kasia was great, smart and strong but also vulnerable because she can’t control her power yet. I really appreciated that even though she was being taken to the Blood King that she was certain of her choice that she was allowing it to happen and it wasn’t just a case of the poor damsel in distress this is your only option.

Brand was that perfect kind of intense and brooding, the one that you could daydream about all day, with the addition of being a rogue dragon and having a fair few secrets about his past, it made for some entertaining reading. The chemistry between Brand and Kasia was spot on but made even better by the complication of Ladon, the Blood King, because his devotion to what he is fighting for made Kasia pause and made me wonder how things were going to turn out.

I have to say that I am reeling over the ending, totally caught off guard with that and even though I’ll probably have to wait quite some time for the next book I really want to read it now!! I can just imagine the tension and fireworks already!

Recently I hadn't read any paranormal (PNR) books and this one reminded me why I love it so much!
Kasia is a Phoenix. Seems cool right? Well, not when every dragon wants you for themselves due to your powers. She's one of four daughters and apparently the most powerful one - she inherited her powers.
Brand is an alpha man and a dragon that will make your legs tremble. He is strong, possessive AF and tries to convince himself that he feels.nothing for fierce Phoenix.
What will come when fate mix those two? Will they become mates or are they destinated for someone else in the end.
There is not only romance and what is going on between those two but also an actual plot that is really important for every event and makes intriguing changes while getting to know the past of characters.
Nothing is sure until it happens. And something tells me that book 2 will be good as well.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
There is nothing better than getting sucked into a new paranormal world! This book sucked me into its world then spat me out at the end of the epilogue wanting MORE of these dragons and phoenixes. This book is full of action and fighting and war and yes I totally am on board for book 2 of the series.
.
Our heroine and her sisters are rare creatures known as phoenixes who are coveted by the paranormal world. They can make any dragon king the king of all dragon kings so are very much a hot commodity. Our heroine has grown up being taught to fear dragons so when one crosses her path.... she runs. She doesn’t get far until he convinces her to come with him to meet his king who will protect her (after mating her natch). Of course close proximity to a hot dragon shifter definitely stirs up some feelings.........
.
First books in paranormal series can be hit or miss because of the world building- it’s either too little or too much. This veers a little to the side of too much (it’s a longer book) but that doesn’t bother me because I’m already hooked. The two main characters were great although I wanted to kick them both in the heads a little to wake them up to their feelings for each other. Can’t wait for the rest of this series.

This book is primarily about the intricacies and politics of a dragon shifter world, with the occasional phoenix, werewolf, demon and other assorted paranormal creatures thrown in for good measure.

Brand and Kasia seem to be at odds over what they want for their futures... but looking at the bigger pictures reveals (well into the book!) that they really have much the same goal and certainly both stand to benefit if they only work together. Besides which, they are crazy about one another. Like, white-hot, burning, phoenix flames in-love with one another.

Their attraction from almost the first moment that they meet just about jumps off the page. They banter they engage in is highly entertaining and delightful. And you just know (okay, so you actually DO know pretty early on, due to the nature of Kasia's visions, first kind of vague and then very specific) that they are fated to be together.

But each of them is proud and fragile, and too afraid to express their true feelings for the other. Also, both Brand and Kasia are trying to do their duty and help achieve the greater good. Only they are so focused on the paths they think they must follow, that for a long time they fail to realize, as the saying goes, that "all roads lead to Rome." Or, in this case, other roads can also achieve justice for their families, and a better future for their entire society. Not to mention a happily-ever-after for the two of them.

As delightful as these two are (well, he is often just a jerk and she can be a bit needy, but overall they are pretty great!), I absolutely adored the supporting cast of their story. From Bleidd to Hershel, Ladon and Arden, to the brief glimpses that we get of Kasia's three sisters, especially Skylar right at the very end of this tale - all brought something unique to the table. Of course, there were the "bad guys" as well, but they were truly awful, so we'll just skip right over them.

One of the only things that truly irritated me about this book was how very often Kasia thought the words "my mother taught me that." We get it! Your mom was great and she taught you a lot of survival skills and other useful information, but you don't have to expound on it in every chapter.

Otherwise though, the story was interesting, intriguing, and entertaining. I understand that this is the first in a four-book series, and there is a crossover/companion series as well, so there will be a lot more material about this world available. I can't wait to read them!

I loved this book, it's the first work I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
I loved the fleshed out characters, the amazing world building, the engrossing and entertaining plot.
It was a very good reading experience and hope to read soon other books by this author.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I love dragons, so the moment I read the synopsis, I was hooked!

And the writing doesn’t disappoint. There are tons of twists that leave you wanting more steamy scenes and epic adventures. The ending left me satisfied but wanting so much more from the characters. I feel like there will be a great story to tell in the next installment.

I gave this one 4 out of 5 stars. If you love paranormal/fantasy romances, this provides a great world to explore.

My favorite part was not only the dragon shifters (because you can never get enough dragons) but also the world building around her heritage as a phoenix. It’s vivid, mysterious, dangerous, and powerful.

Excellent story! So exciting, it pulled me in right from the start. Even though, Kasia and Brand share an instant attraction, both of them are completely unaware and fight it each step of the way. The story is non-stop action. The book has everything, I mean who doesn't love shifters. An amazing start to a new series. I'm excited to read the next book and was only disappointed that I have to wait. Definitely a must read!

Owen weaves a supernatural tale of dragon shifters, phoenixes and werewolves in The Rogue King. The first installment of the story of three Phoenix sisters (highly sought after creatures in this supernatural world) pulls you in with its rich depiction of the tension turned passion between rogue dragon, Brand, and Phoenix on the run, Kasia. I’m looking forward to Owen’s next installment, presumably about Kasia’s sister, Skylar.

I enjoyed this exciting read. I found Brand and Kasia's story very interesting. This is book one of a new dragon shifter series. I liked the epic feeling to this book and series. The combination of shifters, myth, adventure, lore, royalty, danger, action, fantasy, romance and political intrigue makes for a very compelling reading. Brand and Kasia made a wonderful pair. Their attraction was intense, their banter was sharp and clever and they generated lots of sparks each time they clashed. Kasia, I felt for her life was filled with so much turmoil and strife. Hunted like a coveted prize, destined to be used as a pawn and seen as the ultimate tool of power; peace, safety and happiness are only a memory. Brand has a painful past and a thirst for revenge. His emotional struggle is acute as his desire for retribution and his desire for Kasia war with each other. A very enjoyable book and entriguing start to the series.

Abigail Owen is a fairly new author to me and I just fell in love with her work when I read Fire’s Edge series. I was completely hungry for more when it comes to her dragon-shifter series, so I was more than excited when she was giving us a spin-off. First up is Brand and Kasia, and these two are absolute fire, together!

I completely devoured The Rogue King, I wasn’t exactly sure how the story was going to go, but it was quite the ride from beginning to end. All while, the steamy connection that these two have will have you shipping these two so hard.

I loved that they both had different goals when it came to what they were heading towards. There was an instant connection between them and we can all sum the guesses what that exactly meant. And deep down, you know that they know it as well, but you’ll be wondering long it’ll take them to fully recognize it. A lot longer than I expected.

The one thing that I’ve noticed when it comes to books I’ve read by Abigail is that they’re getting better every single time. I love the world that she created for us and she does a phenomenal job covering everything without saying way too much. I wasn’t overwhelmed with the many clans and characters mentioned at all.

There’s a lot of barriers that Kasia and Brand have to get through and it makes for an action-packed ride. With every chapter you get through, secrets are revealed and the bigger picture becomes more than we’ve ever imagined.

I absolutely enjoyed every aspect of this story and you won’t be able to help, but just fall in love with Kasia and Brand. Between their banter and fiery attraction between them, it’s just one of things that will carry you through to the end.

It looks like we’ll have 3 books added to this series and I won’t reveal much except that I’m unbelievably excited for the next one! It’ll be FANNNNNTASTICCC!

I love this series already and I can’t wait for more!! Such mystery and intrigue surround all of the characters. Kasia and her sisters must remain safe for the future of all supernatural beings. That means staying away from dragons. But fate has other plans for her, which will either result in a happy ending...or her death.
5 stars!!
