Great start to a new paranormal series. Kasia feels she must protect her sisters since their mother is not able to teach them the skills to keep themselves. Brand is a Gold Dragon and out for revenge. When a Doctor sells her information, she is in danger from all around. Brand is the first to show up, will he keep her for himself or use her to get what he wants? Fast-paced read with lots of twists and turns. I really liked it.

It has been a while since I have read a paranormal book. When I saw the description for this story and the opportunity came up to read an early copy I immediately signed up.
This is a first Abigail Owen book for me and I am completely OBSESSED with this world!! Paranormal used to be my all time favorite genre and at one point it was all I read. This story has left me wanting to dive back into this genre and read everything!! This was also my first Dragon shifter book and it left me wondering why I've never read about this before.
The second book can not come fast enough. I will be checking out more work by Ms. Owen to keep me busy while I wait!! ABSOLUTE MUST READ!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

A steamy, action packed paranormal romance story filled with sass, dragon politics, fights and tons of paranormal creatures!

My oh my, I never thought I could want more dragon shifters and shifter romances than after completing this book and falling down quite a deep Paranormal Romance hole. I do not know how I have never heard of Abigail Owen before or any of her books. Right after I finished this book I jumped into the novella of the other series, Fire’s Edge which intertwines with this one. Now I should get to the review I guess instead of just gushing and rambling!

” Predators didn’t like it when more dangerous predators showed up.” Dragons were as dangerous as anything supernatural got, and they didn’t play nice with others.”

I was really unsure what to expect when picking up this book. I was of course drawn in by the cover and the idea of dragon shifters! This far exceeded my expectation and now Abigail Owen is a new found author love!

This book was filled with all of those elements I love, fierce female character, great world building and so many paranormal elements. The world developed by Owen was so intriguing. The structure of the dragon clans and the politics added complexity to the overall story making it so much more than just a steamy romance. As the story unraveled the world slowly opens up letting us in to more of the backstory and problems currently happening causing Kasia to a very valuable character.

I would say this was slightly enemies to lovers trope. Brand was a man on a mission of revenge and will stop at nothing. His desire for revenge makes him quite the interesting love interest. With revenge on the mind, secrets in his past and a romance that is forbidden the sexual tension makes this a page turner. I adored Brand!

Kasia is nothing short of my favorite kind of female character. She is fierce and sassy and wildly independent. With a past she cannot ignore and a future that has been foretold for her, the protection of her loved ones keeps her trying the best she can to reveal her secrets. But even she cannot fight the pull she feels towards someone she shouldn’t.

Overall this book is a great first book that is filled with action, multiple fights, unexpected twists and characters you cannot help but to completely adore. This book has my of my new all time favorite characters and the relationship they have with Kasia is so heart warming. There is a variety of paranormal creatures/shifters in such a complex world hidden from the normal humans. The dragons have such a unique backstory and structure to their clans that adds some thrilling political intrigue and set up for what should be an amazing series. The romance was hot and I cannot wait for more from this pairing as well as seeing what happens next. This is a perfect read for any paranormal romance lover and those who need more dragons in their lives!

This was a different paranormal at just the right time. It has a mix of two of my favorites in it so I was more than drawn to it as would most paranormal readers. Kasia is the stuff of legend writers so her character intrigued me. In this she is a treasure for sure.
Brand is the other one in this that draws my attention with his mystery being a form of honey. You are allured into this one to follow these two as the story unfolds being drawn into a world where it will take wits to survive though. Both of them are revealed forming a visual that you carry as you take in the heat.
Fast and action filled this is one once the teeth are in better step back if someone tries to pull it away. Good beginning to a very promising series.

My first story written by this author and I eagerly look forward to seeing where the journey into the "Inferno Rising" series will take me next. When secrets are essential to survival and the revelation of your true self could cause destruction on a massive scale, how does trust in the unknown start? Will a heart connection to a rogue dragon help or hinder in the journey to protect yourself? For Kasia, the loss of her mother and her sisters put her willingness to explore her lineage in the background. But Brand's determination to bring her to his king and reap the benefits of her marriage to royalty is at odds with his growing attraction to her. Will revenge be lost to love? Will betrayal become reality? Will the unknown future become a possibility?

From page one, I was pulled right into this fast paced paranormal romance. I loved the author's take on the shifter world and the politics and intrigue. But hands down, I loved the romance.

I love me some forbidden romance and Kasia and Brand were burning up like only a dragon and phoenix together can. Throw in a fast paced action packed thrill ride and this read became pretty freakin awesome in a really short amount of time.

Would I recommend? Yes! If you like Katie Reus, Kresley Cole, N J Walters or Rebecca Zanetti, this new series will be right up your alley.

Brand has a mission, to bring Kasia to the Blood King. Ladon is not as bad as some of the other King's and Brand trusts him.

Kasia has a secret, one that has Brand coming after her so that she can mate with the Blood King and Brand can get his revenge.

Things don't always go according to the plan. That's the biggest takeaway from this story. Each of them thinks that they know what's going to happen at some point during this book and they couldn't have been further from the truth if it had snuck up on them and smacked them in the face with a pie.

When Brand finds Kasia she's at a clinic because she can't control the fire inside her but she's hasn't told them who or what she actually is so they can't really help her. Brand already knows what she is and that she's been lying about it. He's supposed to find her, bring her back for the Blood King and be done with it. But he feels something for her and his plans don't go as planned.

While Brand and Kasia are on their way back to the Blood King, all sorts of other shifters come out of the woodwork when they find out she exists. They want to capture her for themselves. One King, Pytheios in particular wants her captured and they are on the run from all of them. While they are trying to get back to the safety of the King Brand trusts, they get to know one another better and get closer.

The fact that Kasia kept calling him a giant lizard, Godzilla and a gecko because he's a dragon shifter made me laugh a lot. They have some really comical times together and the name calling got under his skin a little but I thought it was hilarious. He's all like, I'm a magnificent dragon, not some puny lizard.

Kasia is still keeping secrets through most of the book but so is Brand. So when Brand and Kasia finally see that they're meant for each other towards the end of the book, it throws the Blood King, Ladon's plans into turmoil. He gets really mad but he turns out to be a really good guy and they all come together to help Kasia when she needs it.

There was a lot of action in this book, a lot of scheming and plotting and a great slow burn romance. The dragon shifters, wolf shifters and other paranormals made this story so interesting. There is one very unusual or I should say, special paranormal that Brand knows that I really hope we see in future books because I want more of his story. There were so many great secondary characters that I really want to get to know better so I know this is a series that I'll be reading more of.

First time author for me and she did not disappoint. I love dragon shifter books and this one was non stop action and sit on the edge of your seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. It starts off with a bang and continue to keep me reading. I could not put the book down. I love that when both Kasia and Brand first meet it was so obvious they were soul mates, but they both had their own mission and needed to put aside their own feelings. Not that either wanted to admit they felt anything for the other. Kasia was raised to hate the dragons and Brand lost his family and just wanted revenge. I am looking forward to reading more in this series of the Phoenix's and the Dragons they love.

The Rogue King was EXACTLY what I needed during the last few VERY. STRESSFUL. weeks of my organic chemistry class! It was an amazing book that was total candy for my mind (and that cover, candy for the eyes, for sure…even though I am as a rule opposed to the shirtless-man covers).

From what I gathered on GoodReads, most of the author’s other books have been on the tame side of sexy…THIS ONE IS NOT and it was delicious. Definitely the kind to make your nether regions tingle, so be forewarned if you’re not into that or go get it NOW if that’s your thing! There is also a witty, dry sort of humor sprinkled throughout that I absolutely loved and had me chuckling out loud several times.

Kasia and Brand have total chemistry and Brand is hot AF. Also, there are dragons (I might be slightly obsessed) and I am sure the next books will have more! I feel like there will probably be four in this series, due to the fact that Kasia has three sisters…I sure hope so. I am definitely keeping my eyes open for the next installments.

4/5 stars. I took off a star for the plot. It’s kind of predictable, but honestly if you are reading this for plot you’re reading it for the wrong reasons. 😛 A few of the side characters are the rather flat, but I’m hoping maybe they get fleshed out some more in later books. Also, I’m not sure if this book should be classified as paranormal romance or urban fantasy romance…I would usually lean UF for one of this style, but there are also vampires and vampires always make me think paranormal…whatever it is, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Kasia Amon (phoenix in hiding with her mother and sisters) Brand Astarot(rouge dragon) Their journey together is full of angst, violence, deception, suspense, murder...but also laughter, tears, love, steam. They do not fall into instant love but work their way there... There are some evil characters, friends ( I love Maul) working together to get to their HEA there still some loose ends that I am sure will get to in the nest book. I hope Skylar (Kasia's sister) and Landon (Blue dragon king) will be the next book.

Paranormal books will always be my first love in reading. They are my go to books and I love finding new to me authors that catch my attention. Abigail Owen did just that with this book.

Her writing drew me in from the very beginning. She has created a world that I didn’t want to leave. This book had me turning the pages as fast as I could because I didn’t want to wait to see what was going to happen next. The characters are well developed, and the action is non-stop.

Kasia is hiding for a very good reason but when she is discovered her world turns into chaos. In a world where she doesn’t know who to trust, if anyone, she is alone now. When Brand finds her and confirms what she is, they start on a trip that is supposed to lead them down one path but with everything happening, who knows where it will really lead them.

Brand is on a mission and has been on the same mission since he was young. He is out for revenge. Kasia is a small part in his plan but a necessary one. He has a singular focus that cannot be broken, or can it?

I loved these characters and I loved watching them both grow into the people/shifters they were truly meant to be. I am anxiously awaiting the next book and know I will devour that one just like I did this one.

Kasia Amon, our phoenix heroine, and Brand Astarot, our dragon hero, are awesome characters. I was drawn to both of them from the very beginning.

As the oldest, Kasia she feels responsible for protecting her sisters who are also in hiding. Her mother died so that her daughters could live. Before her mom passed, she trained her daughters well giving them survival skills to enable them to blend in and stay off the radar of the dragon shifters who want them. Thus she’s determined, strong and independent. However, when Kasia sought medical assistance, an unscrupulous doctor at the medical center sold her information.

Brand is a strong, stoic, loyal and brave Gold Dragon who became a rogue after Uther killed his parents and siblings and assumed the Gold throne centuries ago. Brand’s focus is razor-sharp on revenge. As a mercenary for the Blood King of the Blue Dragon Clan, Kasia is only a job to him. He’s to deliver her, untouched, to the Blue King and his reward is to be a place in the clan and allies in his fight to take out Uther.

Thankfully, Brand is the first to show up at the medical center to claim Kasia, but others are hot on her trail. Kasia is a much-sought prize to a Dragon King as the King who mates with a phoenix will be recognized as the High King and rule over all the dragon clans. AND, it’s not just the Dragon Kings on her trail. Other supernaturals want to claim a phoenix for a multitude of reasons. Needless to say Kasia is a hot commodity and Brand has his hands full protecting her, not only from her pursuers, but from himself.

This book is teeming with witty banter. Following please find a few of my favorite lines from The Rogue King:

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re hot as a giant lizard?”

“Do you have a thing against knights?”
“Pretty boys who run around slaying dragons to save the fair maiden?” He let the sarcasm dangle for a moment. “Nah. I’m just not one.”

There are many special scenes within, but there’s one involving Kasia hot-wiring Brand’s car that is a hoot.

Supporting characters are colorful and intriguing. You know how some first books in a series become burdened with all the introductions and setting up a new series? There’s no boredom within this tale! It’s a page-turner throughout. Maul, Kasia’s faithful hellhound, is a fascinating character. Hellhounds are warriors who died too soon and are reincarnated as hellhounds until they complete their unfinished business. Then, there’s Hershel, a demon who raised Brand with powers that will take your breath away. I’m hoping that Maul’s and Hershel’s life stories are shared in future installments.

Looming over this tale is an extended storyline with a bloodthirsty villain and an evil witch who want Kasia for their own nefarious purposes.

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Abigail, but it won’t be the last. It features wonderful storytelling and great characters set in an intriguing paranormal universe with danger lurking at every twist and turn. It’s passionate with just the right amount of sexual tension and I couldn’t get enough of it!

The epilogue gives readers a hint of whose stories are coming up next. It appears that the Blue King and Kaisa’s sister, Skylar, may be our next couple. I liked the Blue King and Skylar leaves no doubt that she’ll be a formidable opponent to his stated intentions. I cannot wait!

Phenomenal!

This is my first book by this author and I can't wait to see what happens with the rest of the sisters. Kasia watched her sisters disappear and her mother die. She has been hiding out in a remote cabin but had to seek some help. Brand is the one person she should be avoiding, but he is the one person who can help her. Brand thinks the only way to save Kasia is to take her to the blue dragon king and let her become his mate. Brand knows this is what is best for her, but how can he let her go. Will he let her go?

First book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed. She captured the characters personalities well and the story was well told. I like that there was nothing gratuitous added, just a well told plot with characters that were well written. I would read another of hers.

This was my first Abigail Owen read, and wow, it won’t be my last! This book was fascinating, with dragons, phoenixes and hellhounds, wolves, vampires and demons, just to name some of the many mythical beings in here. But the main focus is on dragons, their clans and wars, and of course their kings. Kings who want/need a Phoenix. And one was found. Brand, a rogue dragon, found Kasia, someone he believes to be a Phoenix, in a clinic. When he questions her, she doesn’t give much away. When she later takes off and steals his car, he finds her and clues her in on the fact he knows what she is. This starts their adventure and holy wow, what an exciting, dangerous, intense adventure it is. I don’t want to say anything else to give it away, but this is one epic read and I can’t wait (and truly hope) for more!!!

I loved The Rogue King! I read the Fire's Edge Series and loved it. I think The Rogue King, the first book in the Inferno Rising Series is the best so far. I have really fallen in love with these Dragon shifters and their mates. Brand and Kasia are my favorites so far. This book has lots of action and plenty of romance. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I give The Rogue King 5 stars for its great read.
I would recommend this book to Paranormal Romance Fans.
