I thought I would find this an intriguing read but actually I struggled with it. Perhaps it was the language the author used but I think it could have been adapted to be more readable and generally ... interesting?

I dont feel this book contained anything more than what i could read elsewhere but if you havent read much on being an empath, actually you may find it incredibly interesting and thought provoking in terms of your own self assessment.

Sometimes being an empath can be a wonderful thing - and sometimes it can be super frustrating. Ora North perfectly captures what it can feel like to take on other people's emotions and what you can do to protect yourself (especially from energy vampires and narcissists.)

I was expecting this book to be pretty woo-woo, but there was actually so much basis in psychology. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it read more like a self-help book with practical exercises to try rather than something more ephemeral.

I think anyone who has empathic tendencies can benefit from reading this book, but even more so if you've experienced any kind of trauma in your life. Her ideas dovetail pretty seamlessly with IFS therapy and parts work, which makes her suggestions easy to implement. I also really loved how much hope there was to this and the emphasis on appreciating and leaning into your empathy was really helpful.

Relatable, powerful, HONEST. I absolutely love this book, it pushes past the toxic positivity (or "lightwashing", as Ora puts it) prevalent in society, offering a deeper and more complete understanding that reached the deepest crevices of my soul. I finally feel seen and understood, I finally feel like someone gets it and is on my side.

If you're sick of light workers and spiritual gurus shoving repressive philosophies down your throat, this book is for you. If you believe that the light and the dark are equally important and valid, this book is for you. If you, like me, are done with society trying to silence your voice by packaging up your experiences into a little box shoved out of sight for their comfort, THIS. BOOK. IS. FOR. YOU.

I Don't Want To Be An Empath Anymore eloquently verbalizes the relentless struggles that Empaths + HSP individuals live with, provides insightful wisdom that cuts through the bullshit, and walks you through regaining your power with soul-balancing shadow work that focuses on actively acknowledging and working with your "darkness", so that you can move past it. Don't be that person leaking their unresolved energies, be better than that.

Some topics included:
♥ Distortions of New Age Thinking
♥ Emotional Validation
♥ Pain Alchemy Affirmations
♥ Shadow Work (the roles of your shadow selves and why they deserve love)
♥ Uncovering Core Wounds
♥ Inner Child Retrieval
♥ Finding Your Mother Wound
♥ Mastering Energy Signatures
♥ Pity Parties (emotionally processing your pain)
♥ Clearing Practices
♥ Using Yes and No Intuition
♥ Working with Your Triggers
♥ Working with Boundaries (and getting to know your Gatekeeper)
♥ Understanding your Energy Reserves
♥ Grounding Techniques
♥ Understanding Energy Patterns in Relationships
♥ Understanding Emotional Labor
♥ Working Through Trauma

Note: At the end of each chapter there are journaling (workbook-esque) prompts called "DO THE WORK", and I highly recommend taking the time to be really be honest with yourself here. Peel back the layers, it's enlightening.

Negative emotions and experiences are not inherently bad or evil, they're there to help you and they are 100% valid. When you work with your shadow instead of against it, you learn balance and control that raises you to a higher spirituality. By acknowledging only the lightness, you're only acknowledging half the soul. To be whole you need to deprogram so you can face all that ugliness, you need to harness understanding and compassion, you need to dig deep and learn mindfulness so you can transmute all that dark energy into healing energy. Healing is a lifelong journey. It's okay to be afraid. Do the work, you're worth it.

I highly recommend this book, I'd give it a zillion stars if I could. Definitely a favorite, definitely a resource I will revisit frequently.

This book fell flat for me. As a sensitive person in a non sensitive world I was really hoping for something with more bang to really put into practice. The ideas were alright, although the book sounds a lot more negative than it actually is. The title is deceptive. It’s not about not wanting to be an a path, but regaining some control over your sensitive self in a world that can feel suffocating.

I thought I was an empath. Well, I think that I'm a really sensitive person, but not an empath.

This book is a simple journey to discover your strenght in your empathy, even if the world seems to be against you every single day.
The journey inside yourself is the first step to become a different person, and everyone can say that for different reasons, because if you know yourself, truly, you know what you can do and what you can't. So, the first step is really generic and common in different personal journeys.
When you are an empath you are very sensitive with and about other people emotions and you understand every person as if you read the minds. The thing is: lots of people are egocentric (even if they don't know) and you can feel alone because you give, give everything to them, but they don't answer your needs. This is very difficult to understand sometime, and every sensitive person try not to be a burden to everyone. Sometime you need help, and I thing the best thing is to understand yourself, you borders and your mental health: you need people who can help you to process yourself and your world in a good way.

The book is full of good ideas, but they are quite common.

This book will either uplift you or not. You will feel like the author has read your mind and heart. What she experiences, other empaths have as well. The thought of self care is so foreign to empaths just as burnout is something they all experience. The author shares various ways to center one's self and guard your emotions. This book is a must read and have for empaths everywhere.

This hit me hardcore. It was interesting, factual, clever, and smart and I read every single page with interest. Being an empath is hard. It's great finding books like this out there. It makes you feel not so alone and not so cursed.

This book is helpful for most people who recognize that they are influenced by the energy of others. Most people are empaths and do not realize it. This book can help them become aware and separate their feelings from the feelings of others. Discernment is key.

This is an excellent guide for those of us who empathize with others to the point of affecting our own emotional state. There is such a thing as being overly empathetic and the author lays out ways to get in the habit of being more aware of your own emotional state and not allowing your empathy for others control it.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC. What a relatable and informative read! For a while now I have been getting emotionally drained on a regular basis by the issues/upsets of my friends, issues/events that impacted them way more than me yet each time I was a crying mess and fearful of falling back into my depression rabbit hole. This book came along at a time when I really needed help and guidance to help me sort out my own issues with being overly empathetic and the effects it was having on me. It is well written, very relatable and explanatory and leaves you feeling like you are not alone in this struggle. Completing the exercises really helped too. Whilst I will always be an empath at least after reading this book I am a more empowered empath who knows what her own boundaries are. #oranorth #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #litsy

To be honest, I don't really like narratives where the author is talking directly to the reader and acts as if they know them (it is a personal preference), but I also understand why in this book such narrative was used.
I am not an empath myself, but I could see how this book can help those who are confused or troubled.
I learned a lot about what being an empath meant though.
It was not the most thrilling read, however it was interesting and successful in the self-help type.

I think this book is wrongly titled. It should be “How to Reclaim Your Empathic Power.” It is not really about NOT wanting to be an empath. It is about how to go from a no controlled empathic state to one where you have regained the mastery and focus by using your sensitivity as a source of power.

All the exercises are great as long as you take the time and do them. This might be better as a workbook since it is such a short read. Everything I read went along with all I have ever heard about being an empath. There weren’t the new cool revelations about how to master being an empath. This is the tried and true stuff you need to remain sane as a sensitive in a non-sensitive world.

This hit the middle of the grade for me since I wasn’t blown away. Wish it had been longer. But a good read.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

Incredible book! The first one I've read that really deals with actually working through this stuff, rather than just offering dismissive platitudes or glossing over reality. North is so insightful, explains things in a way that's easy to understand, and offers a wide variety of tools and techniques for everything from finding your boundaries to untangling which emotions/energy are actually yours. I love that she also tackles spiritual lightwashing/whitewashing/bypassing and the culture of toxic positivity - things I've been bothered by for YEARS. If you truly want to heal, grow, change and reclaim control, read this. THE ONLY WAY OUT IS THROUGH.

Empaths need to read this book. It goes beyond telling you how to guard yourself and tackles some of the ideas around enlightenment that can hinder empaths -- for example, that one must be light and positive always. As author Ora North notes, we spend half our lives in the dark. Emotions are a very human experience and we can't always talk our way out of them with affirmations and positive thinking. Rather than offering tips to guard against emotions, North offers guidance on how to feel your emotions, assess them, and work with them. I especially appreciated the chapter about codependency, as this seems to be a common habit among us empaths. This is a valuable book.

A few years ago it was brought to my attention that I am an empath. In some ways, it was good for me to understand why I was so sensitive to the energies of other people and situations, and to know that others could relate. At the same time, it was frustrating because I didn't know what to do with this information. I wanted a guidebook on being an empath, and I'm so happy that Ora North has provided one in I Don't Want to Be an Empath Anymore. 5 Stars to this book from one grateful empath!

Contrary to the title, it doesn't teach you how not to be an empath, because it is a gift! Instead it teaches how to protect and conserve your energies and better understand your nature so that you are able to be your best self.

This book taught me so much about this part of myself and how to relate to those around me. I can already tell it's one I will reread and want to refer back to frequently.

I am also eager to start the journal prompts at the end of each chapter. North provides some great tools to get the reader to get in tune with all the different facets in themselves, and while this work can be difficult, the creative exercises make it fun and interesting as well. I'd love to see a companion journal for this book!

I love North's voice, as no-nonsense as it is comforting, she is authentic without being harsh and it's a much needed balance for the topics at hand.

I've already recommended this book to a number of friends and think it would be a great read for anyone who identifies as an empath, or anyone who wants to be more self-aware.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy!

Not super interesting, but if you like the topic or want to know more about it, it might be worth your while. there seem to be a lot of empathy books coming out recently.

This book completely blew me away. It resonated with me stirring up a whole range of emotions giving me new understanding and helping me take a long hard look at myself, and see which areas I needed to work on and why.

Being an Empath, I've struggled my whole life taking on other peoples pain like it was my own. I struggled with setting boundaries and having self care ... this would leave me depleted, exhausted and I put my feelings aside to please others. This book helped me with self compassion and I found the journal activities a pleasure, a real eye opener.

This is a book I know I will read again and again.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read in return for an honest review.

5 stars.

The book did a good job of defining what an Empath is, how to be conservative with your empathic energy, and how this is a strength. Where it lost me was with the new-agey stuff. If you like mysticism/new age advice, then of course this would be a good book for you. It just wasn't for me on that level.

I received an arc copy of this book from the publisher from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was better than expected. I resonated with everything the author said in this book on what an empath deals with and what we need to do to establish a healthy life. She also made some pretty valid points through each one of the chapters about boundaries, discernment, and Traumas; she even provides little exercises to do to meet your inner child finding your boundaries and everything. I felt led to read this book and I am glad that I did because it really was enjoyable.

This is not a negative its either you resonate with it or not and I do. And I think she is very direct and real about how we deal with situations, relationships and ourselves.

I recommend this book to whoever resonates with being an empath and the struggles that we face as such.
