This excerpt definitely left me intrigued about the book! I enjoyed the characters and the setup - combining Hollywood with a ranch-style western life is definitely a great story idea.

Zach. And Evie, but ZACH! I love this story of amnesia (done right) and love. So much love. I am absolutely in love with not only this couple, but the family as well. I cannot wait for more from this series!

I thought I would be reviewing a complete story but it was only an excerpt, so it is difficult to review properly as the story is just getting started.

I liked the beginning.

I first got a teaser of this book before I got the full story. The teaser had me dying to read this story to see exactly where it was headed. I was pleasantly surprised with all the twists and turns it took and the outcome of all the drama.
So much happened during the course of this second-chance love story that had me smiling. It was extremely interesting watching Zach earn Evie's trust along with every other member of his family. Everyone in the family, except Evie, knows what happened 10 years ago. He's apologized but didn't tell her everything that really went on. She doesn't recognize anyone but grows to love them all again. Including Zach. As she is learning about her past, she's also realizing that she may have been in a place that she doesn't want to go back to. But, when her memory suddenly comes back and she remembers everything and everyone, she has some really hard decisions to make. The first one … does she really forgive Zach for what he did.
I adored all the characters in this story. Miss Leona was a blast. I loved every scene she was in. She was smart, fun, extravagant and looked out for everyone in the family. Jesse was, I guess, interesting … quiet, moody and was grating on my nerves about Zach and Evie. He had his reasons but, boy did he push my buttons the wrong way. I think I know what he needed but … Then there were Evie's friends that really rallied around her. They were exactly what she needed when she needed it most.
As I said, I was pleasantly surprised throughout this story. I love how it ended and look forward to the next book in this series. It wasn't a fast-paced story and, at times, I felt like it dragged and the same things were being rehashed. But, that was the only drawback in the story. It was original, interesting and fun.

Boring romance. feel like the story took a turn to dull and monotonous as Evie was on the ranch trying to gain her memory back. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the interactions between her and Zach’s family but for me, it bogged down the romantical parts of the story and wasn’t that what we were here for? Eh, I guess. This also leads me to a gripe I have with the story in general. Why the heck pretty much all of Zach’s family was in contact with Evie when Zach wasn’t. Like I get not wanting to deal with a man when he broke your heart… Oh, I understand that on the real, I do. But I just thought that was some weird family flexing going on when Zach found out AND then for his own family to be treating him like he purposefully did what he did towards Evie pissed me off. Like listen, if my family can’t support me in my screw ups, then I wants no part of them. To me, it just wasn’t realistic, and I didn’t like it.

Please see my review on the full-length book.

"I looked forward to a new-to-me author, Weatherspoon, and the lure of an amnesia narrative. I love them. It’s residual from my many years of day-time soap-opera watching. Weatherspoon’s premise attracted me; sadly, her execution didn’t hold my love, or attention."

This was just an excerpt of the first chapter but this book was gorgeous and I adored every single moment! I would highly recommend it.

This was only a single chapter excerpt so I haven't read the full book but the chapter was enough to pull me in and make me want to read the entire thing.

A Cowboy to Remember
Cowboys of California, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: The hottie on the cover, HOWEVER it’s not an accurate depiction of the character.

The Characters:

Yvonne “Evie” Buchanan:
Zach Pleasant:

The Story:

I loved the setting, New York and the wild hills of northern California. I like the strong family unit the Pleasants seem to have, even if they have their issues. I liked the premise, who isn’t up for a little amnesia and rediscovery of their self. But, somehow I don’t have wow feelings about this book. I’m not sure why. I do know I want to read the next book in the series. The Pleasant brothers (and family) are entertaining and this book is well written.

The first book in the Cowboys of California series a well written second chance story for chef Evie Buchanan and cowboy and former rodeo champion Zach Pleasant, that held my interest throughout. I want to read more in this series. This is a new Author to me. I received a copy through Net Galley and I am voluntarily reviewing.

This book, like all Rebekah Weatherspoon books, worked just really well for me. Who knew an amnesia plot could be so well done!? Only Rebekah could make it work on every level like this. IT seemed so believable and not like a ridiculous thing at all. I love her world building and I need all the characters to get a book now.

With a headline spot on a hit morning show and truly mouth-watering culinary skills, chef Evie Buchanan is perched on the edge of stardom. But at an industry party, a fall lands Evie in the hospital—with no memory of who she is. Scrambling to help, Evie’s assistant contacts the only “family” Evie has left, close friends who run the luxury dude ranch in California where Evie grew up. Evie has no recollection of them—until former rodeo champion Zach Pleasant walks into her hospital room, and she realizes his handsome face has been haunting her dreams. Zach hasn’t seen Evie in years—not since their families conducted a campaign to make sure their childhood friendship never turned into anything more. When the young cowboy refused to admit the feelings between them were real, Evie left California, making it clear she never wanted to see Zach again. Now he refuses to make the same mistake twice. Starting fresh is a risk when they have a history she can’t recall, but Zach can’t bear to let go of her now. Can he awaken the sleeping beauty inside her who might still love him?
This was a pretty good book. The story was well paced. I hadn’t read this author before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was not disappointed! I recommend.

Evie Buchanan is a chef who loses her memory, not just a little bit but all the way. She doesn’t remember who she is at all. Her assistant doesn’t know what else to do so she contacts the closest thing to family she has. They happen to run a luxury ranch in California where Evie grew up. She doesn’t remember the ranch until Zach gets to her hospital room. When he walks in, she realizes that she has been dreaming of him.
Zach and Evie haven’t seen each other in years. The last time was when their families decided to make sure that Evie and Zach would be nothing more than friends. Evie tried to get him to see that they could be more than friends, but Zach wasn’t having it and so Evie left the ranch and California. But now that they are back together in the same place Zach refuses to let her go again. His only problem is that she doesn’t remember that they have a history.
The one thing I liked about this book was that you were about to see the healing happening. The communication that hadn’t been there before was repaired and things that families tend to not deal with, they are now dealing with.
This was a great book. Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

I just didn't connect with the characters or care about the story at all. There wasn't anything WRONG with it. This is a case of "It's not the book, it's me". I've loved Rebekah's books before and will do so again. But this one was a bit of a slog and I was just happy to finish and move on to something else. Nothing stood out for me and this was easily forgettable after I finished the last page.

Second chance romance. He's not going to let a second chance pass him by. This story isn't all serious. There are funny parts as well.
I do have to say that I have been around cowboys my entire life and I've never known one who manscaped like the cover. They all have that little bit of hair peeking out of their collar.

The first chapter had me intrigued and interested in this story. If the whole book was written like this first chapter the reader is in for an entertaining story.

What I read was interesting, but it seems I only got one chapter. I'll have to wait until the library opens up again and get a copy of the book there.
